I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi, I've been able to get B6 but only in 50mg tablets - on the pregnancy sickness support group it suggests 10mg tablets up to 4 x a day. What's everyone's else taking? Should I be cutting up the 50mg tablets or ok to just take one a day? Thank you.

Meerka · 25/06/2015 16:19

Hm, I'd go halfway casa. maybe cut them in half and take two a day.

I'm not sure if they make -all- that much difference, if cyclizine doesn't help you then im not sure they will, but Dr Tony was quite sure that it's one of those small things that can have a real effect for some people.

amyyy best of luck with the doc!

mother Hen did you have a list of foods that were not too bad on the return journey? Someone did, a while back, I didn't make a note of it :( Personally I found tinned peaches not too awful. Rice was dreadful, so was anything dairy.

LucindaE · 25/06/2015 17:20

Meerka I remember someone did a good list of Foods Less Offensive On the Way Back Up. I had on mine somewhere quite far back, custard, jelly, tinned peaches and pears, juice of tinned fruit, cheap ice cream and milk shakes and also flat coke, but opinion about the ice cream (must be cheap) was divided, and also about the coke and milk shakes. I so agree about rice, and as for pasta bake Envy. Tea is horrible, too, but not many people can face it anyway.
any I hope I expressed my sympathy about the awful car park episode too, and for Lilac. It was very unkind of people to stare in disgust.
any Good luck for doctors. I so agree with Meerka's great advice, lay it on thick and humiliating as it is, see if you can do some puking or at least retching (here I'm guilty of do as I say, not as I do).
I hope Casablanca and everyone is coping in this muggy weather.

Oh sorry Lucinda thought I had replied! It is I wouldn't dream of glaring at someone so poorly! And thank you and Meerka* will try and ring them tomorrow and see where I get! X

Meerka · 25/06/2015 18:47

yes, the hormones don't seem to like tea :( or coffee either.

hoping everyone has as good an evening as possible. One less to go, by the end of tonight ...

jenpatnim · 25/06/2015 19:51

Hey all. I have 3 more days of work - I finish a half day on Tuesday and then I am free until Easter. Free to be skint, but sure.

Lucinda, this is baby 2, I have a 16 month old already. It seems like no time ago I was here with him, and now I am expecting his brother very soon.

I have my 34 week ante natal appt tomorrow, so that'll be fun. Yeah. The clinic I attend has atrocious waiting times. I'll be there for hours. Just sitting.

Today has been bad - I have thrown up every day this week. and that is with ondansetron. I will be going to bed with no dinner as I feel too nauseated and crappy. Meh Meh Meh

Hugs to all and hopefully you are all coping. The advice here is so good I have nothing to add.

LucindaE · 25/06/2015 20:17

any I was a bit worried I had ignored so woeful a tale!
Jen It does seem only a short time ago; you are very brave to go for it with LO only sixteen months, and to have worked all the way through when you have suffered throughout. Moan all you like; you've got every right. Gentle cyber pats on offer.
Waves to Meerka and everyone...

Hello everyone yes agree with everyone about good and bad foods. Meerka your right about rice my in laws were over this eve they bought a take away curry for my birthday. I did not eat any curry that would really not be a good idea. They kept asking if I wanted rice I said no, I could not really explain it gets stuck up your nose when your sick my last pregnancy it was there for days afterwards. I ate some nann bread and poppadoms I'm always sick in the evening. Best food and I feel after a lot of research the best food on the return visit is chocolate. SKIP IF YOU FEEL SICK-probably everyone. Other plan things not so bad. Tomato based things or highly flavoured not good. On my first pregnancy I went to a wedding stayed in a hotel as the breakfast was free I could not say no. I ate scrambled egg it came back up in the car in a bag it smelt so bad my husband had to get out as well.

Sorry if I have gone in to too much detail!

eallison88 · 25/06/2015 20:47

Nausea has been particularly difficult today. Two minibus journeys for a trip today were nearly a disaster. A little worried about tomorrow as going with the head and 5 kids on an hours drive to a trip, then an hour back. On the motorway mostly so not really opportunity to stop and vomit. Really not looking forward to it. Don't wanna hurl in front of the students - happy to hurl in front of the head!

Ems10000 · 25/06/2015 21:31

Congratulations hello, sorry it's a bit late! I can't wait to get to the pink castle!

amy sorry you are feeling so bad, i agree with what everyone else has said RE doctor - i rested my head on his desk as i genuinely felt very faint and was taken more seriously. My doctor prescribed ondansetron over the phone, i asked for a telephone appointment as i wasn't up to the journey and i asked him for it by name as nothing else had worked. Good luck, i hope you can get it - my GP would only prescribed ten tablets at a time so no sooner have i got them i am ringing up for more! I also feel for you being sick in public, around 14 weeks me and my husband went to see a comedian and as we came out the theatre and walked through a church yard to the car i projectile vomited right outside the church, there were literally hundreds of people walking past. I was so mortified and i think most people presumed i was drunk!! The glamour of pregnancy hey!!

Sorry to see so many suffering, does anyone else get sick of people saying 'have you got what kate middleton had?'

kayme · 25/06/2015 21:35

eallison88 oh dear poor you. Can't you get out of it? At least you can say your travel sick. It's difficult when there is pressure on you and you can't tell, or does everyone know? Later in my pregnancies I used to tell the kids think it's good for them to know what being pregnant can be like. Good luck tomorrow.

mygreeneyedboy · 25/06/2015 21:40

ems I had that last time round - I passed out and threw up at the same time in a cafe, not visibly pregnant, a lady came up to DP and said "is she on drugs? Don't worry I won't tell the police!"

lucinda I might try the jelly thing - throwing up bile is definitely horrible.

First day on the cyclizine: ate okay, very tired, muscle weaknesses is another of my symptoms from last time. Would it be silly to go to the GP to ask for something else? Today was okay looking after my 18mo as my dad was there in the background, and he also had a 3 hour nap with me. However he shouldn't nap that long as he wont sleep at night :( tempted to fly over to DP's parents so they can look after him..

kayme · 25/06/2015 21:54

I think it's good for HG that Kate Middleton had it. At least people have heard of it now.

Meerka · 25/06/2015 22:09

greeneyes its not silly to ask for more, no. cyclizine can take 3 days to build up in the system. also, not everyone responds to it, though it's good. HG is like that, what works for one person doenst for another.

Frankly I reckon get all the childcare help that you can. Seriously.

eallison88 · 25/06/2015 22:18

I'm 27 weeks and gave a rather large bump, so it's pretty out there!I can't really get out of it. I want to go, it'll be worth it when we arrive. It's just the journey that I'm dreading. I'll just have to be brave and mention to the head that I'm having a difficult few days and may be a little nauseous in the car and may need him to stop. I'll try and find a sick bag to take with me... oh the glamour!

mygreeneyedboy · 26/06/2015 08:11

Woken up at 5 w + 4 feeling totally fine.. No sickness, ate breakfast fine, no tiredness apart from my normal not being an early bird. Tempted to take another test as yesterday was terrible and today is normal.. With DS I threw up everyday from week 6 until week 25

chopsface · 26/06/2015 09:24

Wow so many posts over the last day or so!

Just popping on to say congratulations to hello!

Boo to all the pukey car journeys past and present.

Blubbered in the GP's room yesterday because I wasn't feeling like me and unable to do what I used to etc etc. Now she's worried about my mental health Confused personally I don't think I'm at risk of depression but I think a closer eye is going to be upon me, eeek.

Happy Friday ladies x

Amyyy27 · 26/06/2015 10:23

Thanks everyone. The arsey so and so on reception wouldn't let me speak to a doctor on the phone so have to go in at 11. I made a 'joke' how I hope they have cleaners as I WILL vomit. I say joke.. I almost wish it would happen to show her I really shouldn't be leaving the house today!!

I am really really not well at all today. On top of vomiting every 15 mins I feel so weak and dizzy. I also have to go to work this afternoon as the other girl is on holiday so I don't have a choice :( Luckily they will be closing earlier so should only be in for around 3 hours. Thankfully its Friday woohoo!!

I can't see who posted it, but I actually think Kate having it has helped me as I have had a few people say 'Oh is that what Kate Middleton had?' but that to me shows at least they know there is a difference between HG and normal morning sickness (even if they don't realise just how bad it is!) I still think it will take a few more famous people for the majority of people to become aware of HG and how bad it is.

Hope everyone is as well as can be x

Daffodil3228 · 26/06/2015 10:52

I'm behind but couldn't not comment on your experience Confused - a medical professional told you to resolve not to be sick????!!!!!
Is he not aware that it is completely involuntary and also completely disgusting and that funnily enough we would rather not be throwing up????
I'm glad you threw up on him Grin hope you got his shoes Grin
Hope also that you are feeling better with more fluid in your system and better meds.
Amy all the best at the doctors. They need to be taking you seriously and helping you.
Waves hello to everyone else! X

chopsface · 26/06/2015 10:54

Sorry to hear you're not at all well Amy :-( are you sure you should be working later? Hope you're feeling a bit better later on x

I wonder what care and meds princess Kate had? After the initial hospital stays she was still making public appearances without a sick bowl in sight! I was reading that it's not taken very seriously in this country and was it Canada that has the best care? They go for prevention rather than cure. As in getting on top of it early. I think I was awfully lucky I saw a brilliant GP who started me on meds after just a week of vomming and I do have things under control.

LucindaE · 26/06/2015 12:32

Any I so agree with Chopsface that you don't seem up to working if you are puking every quarter of an hour. Mean of the receptionist, and I hope you get an effective combination of meds described.
Chopsface Poor you, I do sympathise, cyber pats on offer. It's a great strain, and I'm glad the tears mean that they will monitor you more closely. It is understandable to feel not only very ill, but frustrated and totally miserable with this. Who wouldn't? But as you say, that isn't depression.Being fed up at being in a bad situation isn't a sign of mental problems.
mygreeneyedboyHopefully, it's a sign it may not be too severe if you get the odd day off?
EMS It's good you had the dizzy spell.
eallison They are asking rather a lot of you, knowing that you are still suffering from sickness. Is there nobody else who can go?
Kayme Never worry about tmi. The grim details are horribly familiar to us all.
mygreeneyedboy eallison any EMS and all those with terrible Public Puking Experiences, much sympathy.
Waves to Meerka and everyone...

EMS Sorry, that sounded odd- I meant, if it took you half fainting on the desk at the GP''s to get taken seriously, I'm glad it happened, as it does seem to take visible proof like that to impress some.
Daffodil I so agree about GP's shoes.

Amyyy27 · 26/06/2015 12:54

Well I was sick in the actual doctors appointment! Good job I took a bag. Just what must have been the last of the bile but at least she could see how bad I was. She was a new doctor there so was a little wary but she was actually really helpful. I said about ondansetron and she gave me the choice of either trying promethazine hydrochloride or ondansetron which is stronger. I actually chose the promethazine, on the condition that if it doesn't work she could give me a prescription over the phone for ondansetron. She was happy with that so I am going to give these a go and see how I get on. My ketones were one less than needing to be admitted so will just try and get my fluids up this afternoon. I have thankfully stopped being sick since that appointment and got some fizzy blood orange water which has stayed down.

I did unfortunately have to come in to work (here now!) but shouldn't be here for too long. Its a bit annoying as there is no back up plan for something like this happening where both of the full time workers need to be off, its just first come first serve/ whoever is off first gets to stay off!

I would love to know what treatment Kate had! How she managed to go out to events and still look great I have no idea!

LucindaE · 26/06/2015 13:00

any You poor thing, but at least it made your point as words could not.
It's very bad you've had to go into work, though; Mother Hen is shocked.

Hey all - I had my antenatal appt this morning and they are very happy with baby, size, fluid, cord and placeta all good. So that is a relief.

Still nauseated and exhausted but heigh ho. I am in work now and have only until half day Tuesday to go - I am a teacher so we are winding down for the end of term.

Hoping everyone else is managing ok or as best as they can. Ondansetron is my saviour, plus peptac liquid in the night. Trying to keep hydrated is important, and consuming enough glucose/calories to keep those ketones at bay.
