I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hello everyone been reading through trying to catch up. Lots of problems but it's so nice to see everyone is so supportive of one another.
Has anyone else been prescribed promethazine hydrochloride? It said I had to take one at bed time. In the morning I just could not wake up felt really out of it. It said I could have another tablet in the morning but I didn't dare. I did not feel as sick but got worse as the day went on, as I normally do. I think I will only take them on days I'm really bad and don't have to drive or look after my kids.
I also did something really stupid yesterday I have been going in to work. I'm a teacher I had to go into a primary school to run a project. I had a big box in my car that I kept adding to. When I went to lift it it was really heavy but I thought it will be alright. I ended having to carry it further than I thought. Yesterday evening my stomach hips and under my rib cage is really sore. I keep getting bad period type pains. Hope I have not hurt the baby. I'm only 8 weeks so don't show. I've been trying to take it easy today but still really sore. My stomach muscles are sore from being sick to.
On another note I post I read from a while back said about someone doing a little wee when there sick, glad I'm not the only one!

chopsface · 19/06/2015 18:27

kayme! I was having that problem with those drugs. I was told to take one at bedtime but that I could increase the dose to 2 a day! I worked out that if I took one at bedtime and then one the following lunch time it would keep the sickness away all day! It's marvelous! When I was just taking one the sickness would return mid pm. However it was making me quite drowsy and I mentioned it to the GP who is now trying me on something else to see if I can remain more alert!

Those ladies taking cyclizine.... What times of day do you take them and how many? Just saying take up to 3 throughout the day in the leaflet is not particularly usefull.... Thanks in advance!

LucindaE · 19/06/2015 18:41

Kayme I wish I could answer your question about promethzine, but I hope somebody will be able to. On your worry about lifting, while not medically trained I think early miscarriage is almost never associated with that sort of thing, but with hormones, so I wouldn't worry too much, you've probably pulled a muscle or two. Just for reassurance, though, it's always worth phoning your midwife or the NHS advice line, the number of which I have cleverly forgotten.
Chopsface Again, I can't give an informed answer to your query about he best times to take cyclazine.
Meerka Here's some Flowers just thinking of all that makes me weak at the knees...

Chops, I imagine everyone is different, but I took cyclizine 3x a day throughout, and I'd take the first one as soon as I woke up, then lie in bed for a while before getting up. Took the 2nd one about midday. I was always sick at about 5pm so just accepted that and then took my third dose right after that vom. That normally enabled me to keep my dinner down, provided I went to bed pretty soon after. The drowsiness did improve with time, too. Hope that helps.

Meerka · 19/06/2015 19:04

The promethazine is an anti-histamine, same as cyclizine, and some people do get -very- drowsy from it (it's part of what they put in the pethedine injections that help you sleep, because of that reaction). It's a strong anti-histamine, but also strong drowsy-making med!

Very wise not to drive with it.

chops, suggest you vary taking the cyclizine and work out what's best for you. if you take one an hour before your worst time of day then space them out roughly 6 - 8 hours from there, that might work.

hoping everyone has a quiet evening!

kayme · 19/06/2015 19:05

Thanks guys. LucindaE i thought about phoning the midwife but im only 8 weeks i didnt think there would be anything they could do as im only 8 weeks. Im just keeping my fingers crossed think it is pulled muscles.
I was told to space cyclazine out throughout the day one first thing then at lunch time then the evening. The doctor told me that if I was sick within an hour of taking it I could take it again. He said it takes a long time for the body to absorb it. I would think it would of been about 20 min.

kayme · 19/06/2015 19:11

Thanks Meerka I just had to stay in bed and sleep. I felt really bad I got up and found my 3 year old playing in the garden with the hose pipe, I left him watching TV.

elizabethsmum · 19/06/2015 19:34

kayme the ligaments in the pelvis are very sensitive in pregnancy so you have probably just aggravated them a bit by lifting. little one is still very well protected deep within the pelvis at this stage so do try not to worry too much. I would rest until pain settles but may well just be worth ringing to speak to someone for a bit of professional advice, (I am a sonographer, not a midwife so although I can speak from experience it is best to get checked out if you have any concerns) x

kayme · 19/06/2015 19:44

Thanks elizabethsmum I already have a lot of problems with lax joints so probably have over stretched something. I think I will be lots more careful in future. The funny thing was the head of the school said I would offer to help carry the box but would not want to be sexist, I think men are often afraid to offer help.

Ems10000 · 19/06/2015 20:27

kayme I took those meds for 3 days and just slept constantly, they knocked me out so I had to change. I've been through most meds and I'm on ondansetron which helps massively. Just a question for anyone who has had experience with ondansetron - I've just been taking one a day in the morning but this last week I've took an extra tablet late afternoon if I've been feeling worse. I'm 20 weeks now and had been hoping to wean myself off the tablets soon but night time vomitting has returned! Has anyone continued to take these meds right til the end? I had HG in my first pregnancy but I'm sure I was much better from 18 weeks and I stopped meds much sooner than that. Hope everyone is having a better day today Smile

kayme · 19/06/2015 21:09

Ems10000 on my first pregnancy I was still being sick right up until the end. Hopefully you will start to feel better my second pregnancy it did stop sooner. I was not allowed ondansetron because of medical problems. Don't come off it too soon you don't want to relapse.

Melleebacca · 19/06/2015 21:15

Ems - I'm in the same boat. I'm 22w and still taking ondansetron once a day. If I skip a day, I feel so much worse. I'm thinking I'm going to be on it at least until I go on maternity leave at this stage.

mygreeneyedboy · 19/06/2015 22:03

Hey just reserving my place here. Found out I'm 4 weeks with DC2, had HG last time round and already getting slightly nauseous. Swear it didn't start this early last time?! Got my first round of cyclizine from the GP today as a just in case.

Melleebacca · 19/06/2015 22:25

Hi Mygreeneyedboy - I hear it starts earlier with the second. Welcome, and good luck! Flowers

chopsface · 19/06/2015 22:36

Hi mygreeneyedboy! My sister swears she had HG from conception so it's possible! At least you've got meds lined up just in case. Isn't it meant to be a bit better with your 2nd? My sister wasn't anywhere near as poorly with dd2 as dd1. Fingers crossed.

I've had lots of uterus cramps today. Stretching? Everytime I complain to dh about new signs and symptoms he pooh poohs them :-( I can't help but worry, I've no idea what to expect!

Meerka · 19/06/2015 22:39

ems yes, some people have taken it all the way through

HI greeneyed ... Yeah it started a bit earlier with me too 2nd time around. Joy.

It's an idea to start taking the cyclizine now. There's some evidence that taking it early can help you avoid the worst of HG and it's absolutely harmless for the baby. Also if you can get vitamin B6 that apparently works very well with cyclizine and can help with the HG.

Do post whenever you need to :)

Meerka · 19/06/2015 22:40

chops hope the cramps ease off. Preg is not the glowing glorious experience it's cracked up to be, is it Hmm

kayme · 19/06/2015 23:03

mygreeneyedboy hello wellcome, congratulations. Fingers crossed you might be better this time, I think being aware of what might be coming is certainly not nice. I have been a bit better 3rd time around. (Saying that I have just eaten a biscuit in bed as my stomach is eating it's self after throwing back everything this afternoon and evening).
I think doctors knowledge of treatment and meds has improved over the last few years. I hope for you it comes and then goes away x

eallison88 · 19/06/2015 23:20

My feet and ankles are huge. Particularly my right one. Mentioned this to gp on Mon and he had a look and feel and wasn't worried. But my right ankle us noticeably more swollen. No pain tho, except it feeling tight if I point Mt feet - but that could well just but tight skin. And I have spent most of the last 5 hours on my feet. Lying on bed with feet above bed hoping goes down. Generally just sleeping doesn't get them normal. At a wedding tomorrow so would like to fit into prettier flip flops if possible!

LucindaE · 20/06/2015 11:48

Welcome to mygreeneyedboy. I do hope you escape it this time. You're a veteran now and need no urgings to get kesostix to test for dehydration etc. I'm glad GP supplied meds without problem. Other women on here have said they do feel twinges of nausea incredibly early.
Oh dear, sympathies for everyone worrying about suspicious crampings. It's a long time ago with me, but because I conveived within six weeks of an mmc, I was super sensitive to every little twinge. I think you do get a lot, particularly if you have loose joints anyway. Eallison Sympathies about swollen feet and ankles. At least dr wasn't worried.
Waves to Ems lovely MotherofPearlelizabethsmum Meerka and everyone.

LilacWine7 · 20/06/2015 12:48

Meerka that must have been terrifying! Really glad you were both ok in the end.

Eallison hope your swollen ankles got better in time for the wedding!

Kayme I tried promethazine but it did nothing for me. Had no luck with prochlorperazine (stemetil) either despite taking it for over a month. Cyclizine made a slight difference and metoclopamide seems to be helping a little bit.

Enjoying having guests, though I haven't been very social so far and keep leaving DH to entertain them while I have a rest! They're old friends so very understanding and kind about it. But I do feel bad for not being more chatty or watching films with them. I've been focusing on food prep instead, find it soothing to sit in kitchen away from party, making salads and marinating things! Now and then someone comes to chat to me. Before HG I used to love cooking and baking so feels nice to be able to do this again without gagging at the smell of food!

LucindaE · 20/06/2015 12:58

Lilac I think it's very energetic of you to entertain guests at all, and do food preparation, let alone watch films etc etc.

I think you need a second opinion confusedeio! That is not something he should be brushing away lightly. Get a new appointment with a different doctor if you can. do you have kesostix that lucinda mentions above? So you can check yourself? Take care xx
