I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Woah! It is busy on here...I'm getting well confused with all the new names and dates -perhaps Lucinda, we could get a new due date list? Mother Hen has heaps of new chicks to keep an eye on.
Congrats to Amy on the healthy scan :), congrats to LaHottie on surviving the celebratory days (sometimes the willpower we have on special days is incredible, I felt awful on hubby's bday, threw up at 1am the next day, he thanked me for making it through his day ok).

Welcome to all the new sufferers, I'm so sorry for you, but you will become HG survivors! The darkest days are scary, especially mentally, so please talk to the thread for support. I did have a few days when I just cried constantly and told hubby that I couldn't do it anymore. It's so tough.

Waves to all! There's too many names for me to remember now! Smile

LoveLetters · 13/06/2015 19:21

I just told hubby I can't do it anymore. IM only 8 weeks. This is horrendous

chopsface · 13/06/2015 19:22

Lucinda worry not, I've done 3 wees today and the third one was yellow! I've fixed myself!

To those who pee themselves when they vom, I seem to do enormous loud farts!

Melleebacca · 13/06/2015 19:28

Love letters - what a gorgeous name. You can do it, just take it one day, one hour, one minute at a time. And when it all gets way too tough, go to bed and sleep. You can't vomit while asleep.

Chopsface - I totally fart too, I have bladder control, but no fart control. Hubby tells me I do manlier farts and burps than him!

Lahottiereturns · 13/06/2015 19:30

LoveLetters I feel the same way....I don't think I have the grit for this. The constant obsession with fear of throwing up, being somewhere I can throw up, and how to get some sort of liquid in in any disgusting way possible. I am losing my mind.

LoveLetters · 13/06/2015 20:11

That's how I feel. I just hope this injection works on Monday. I just want to feel normal again. And yes, I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Even those struggling and wishing for it... I'm sure once they did have it they would be quite surprised how debilitating it is.

Amyyy27 · 13/06/2015 20:17

Oh ladies I'm so sorry you are feeling so down but please believe me when I say we have all been there and had those thoughts. It does get better, you will get through this. I agree on going to bed and sleeping through it. Hope tomorrow is a better day x

Meerka · 13/06/2015 20:52

welcome all new people, congratulations and commiserations!

marchgirls prednisolone is prescribed for HG but not very often, but it is regarded as the most effective. Not sure what the dosages are. Are you under a consultant?

wishing everyone, new and old, as peaceful a night as possible. Nearly another day over ...

Hellohellohowareyou · 13/06/2015 21:24

loveletters the injection will work, that and iv fluids was the only thing that truly stopped me vomiting 100%. It should perk you up enough to allow you to keep something down.

Hang in there, I know it doesn't feel like it but things will get better and there is plenty of us on this thread to prove that, take care of yourself xx

chopsface · 13/06/2015 21:38

Just been moaning to my mummy on the phone. They've been abroad all week so its the first time we could chat about my new sorry state. She was very sick with me and my sister so can sympathize. Told me to get some cornflour custard in me. It was her miracle cure when we had childhood illnesses lol. Just brewed some up but vommed before I had the chance to 'line my stomach' with mum's cure lol!

Night all, thanks for welcoming me into your group. I hope to get to know you better over the weeks.

hcat123 · 13/06/2015 22:34

As to find this new thread and thank you for the message to invite me. I have been having a mix of good and bad days. I'm 20 weeks now and the cyclizine is working well some days and does nothing on other days. But then on the odd day I haven't even taken it. It's so unpredictable. I saw my consultant last week and it was agreed I could have ondansatron but reading the side effects I'm scared to take it! Not foetal - but the side effects for me. Severe headaches are one.
Does anyone have any experience?
Thx x

Marchgirl · 13/06/2015 22:38

Thanks meerka.
I'm under a consultant for the mc but she's shit and not supportive of the pred, which was prescribed by the Coventry implantation clinic. I'm on 20mg per day until 12 weeks but am supposed to wean off from 10wks. Just at the time of peak hg, so think I'm going to need a back up plan.

Melleebacca · 13/06/2015 23:30

Hcat - I'm on ondansetron at 21w, been taking 1 x 8mg tablet a day for the last few weeks. Trying to wean off them, but finding nausea picks up a lot on the days I don't have one. Biggest side effect is constipation, but the dose I'm on doesn't seem to cause any side effects.

eallison88 · 14/06/2015 07:50

Ondansetron side effects. Biggest one for me was the constipation but I managed to control that more or less with fruit (mainly tinned peaches!). I had a week or two of headaches in the evening but they seemed to resolve themselves.

LoveLetters · 14/06/2015 08:55

Went to loo this morning and hardly any wee came out. Very yellow also. What should I do?

eallison88 · 14/06/2015 08:59

I'd just keep an eye on it. Try to get some fluids in this morning (fruit, ice lollies, smoothies, anything you can handle). Have you got ketostix (or whatever they're called!) to test your ketone levels next time you pee?

Glitterball86 · 14/06/2015 09:03

I'm currently on a combination of 3 different sickness tablets (and rattling along with the other pills I have had to take since I got pregnant) but they best advice I received is to make sure I am taking one every 4 hours so they have a good chance to build up in your system, I have become forgetful as of late and it is so much worse when I don't take them :/

I had this injection on one of my hospital admissions, it was quite painful and it didn't work for me but I know there are lots of people it has helped!!

Waves to all

Laura7010 · 14/06/2015 10:18

Feel really set back this morning, was up between 4 and 7 being sick and feeling terrible neusea. I think it's because of my coughing from a cold. I've managed to keep something down now and have more sleep but feeling down in the dumps Sad

LucindaE · 14/06/2015 10:54

Welcome to heat123. I am so sorry that I missed that you posted on the old thread as I would so have liked us to be able to support you in any way we could when you sounded so desperate. That teaches me a lesson about checking up on old threads. When you are dehydrated and desperate it's the easiest thing in the world to miss the link to the new thread. I am so glad it is a little better now. I have heard about the risk of headaches with Ondansetron, and not sure how common it is, perhaps only if you are prone to them or migraine? Some others might know. I did know one woman on here who did get them, most don't.
LoveLetters Oh dear, that sounds sinister. Can you keep liquids down to rehydrate? So agree with others, you need to get some kesostix and check for dehydration. If not, do you have headache, dry skin, blurry vision, all unfortunate signs of it? There's meant to be a skin pinching test. How are ice lollies, ice cubes, sips of flat coke or juice of tinned fruit staying down?
Laura Poor you, it is very exhausting being sick constantly. Try and rest as much as you can.
On feeling desperate, LoveLetters Lahottie and others, you will come through it. Things will get better. Hugs. You did the right thing in gong for it.
Chopssticks and Mellebacca Yay for loud farting! Grin. and Chopsticks So glad you did it. Yellow urine is far from perfect, but it beats hell out of Builder's Tea Orange.Smile
Waves to Penguin elizabethsmum any eallison Meerka Hello and all being so lovely and supportive.
Goodness, yesterday was I think, one of the busiest days ever on these threads, and I want to welcome Glitterballs86 Laura7010 LoveLetters heat123 and Marchgirl again.
Melleebacca That is a good idea about a due dates list. I'll look up hte last. Obviously, nobody who doesn't feel happy giving a due date is under pressure to divulge. (I didn't like talking about the due date myself as I'd had an mmc immediately before).
Apologies to anyone ignored. Watch me cross post...

Chintaria Sorry, I cut off my message for you. Are the liquids staying put?

OP posts:
chopsface · 14/06/2015 11:26

I thought hg was only meant to affect a tiny % of expectant mums. How on earth did we get in that %?! I was unlucky enough to get in the small % of couples who didn't conceive within 2 years too. Woo!

Had orange wee again this morning after puking yesterday evening. The 3 sips of water needed to take my pills was all I could manage. Any more fluid and I think I would have lost my pills! Had some fruit juice this morning and might have a lolly in a sec... Water is vile though, shudder.

My friend messaged me this morning wondering if I wanted to go maternity clothes shopping but I said I really couldn't do the hour on the bus to town! I'm not showing yet anyway so no desperate need but give me another week or 2! 14w tomorrow :-)

Hope you all have as good a Sunday as you can :-) x

LilacWine7 · 14/06/2015 11:26

Warm welcome to all the new ladies! Sorry you're suffering. This is a great thread, everyone's so supportive and understanding. It lifted me out the depression I was sinking into in earlier days of HG. Just knowing people understand and care makes such a difference. I'm now almost 27weeks and still vomiting 2-3x day but haven't had a bad relapse for few weeks now. So for everyone in a dark place right now, it really does get better.

Amy congrats on your scan!! I'm having a little boy too Smile

Lahottie so glad you managed the party and Christening. How are you feeling now?

March so sorry to hear about your previous MCs. Are you still taking prochlorperazine? I tried it in first trimester but found cyclizine more effective. can your doctor try you on a combination of anti-sickness meds so HG doesn't get worse when you wean off the prednisone?

Laura it's amazing you managed to keep working in that state. Are you still on the phased return? I threw up at work a lot, including on a client's garden path Blush but am now on long-term sick leave as it all got too much even with reduced hours. Hope your cold gets better soon, I find having a blocked nose makes me more nauseous. I have a saline spray that contains peppermint oil (packet says safe in pregnancy) this seems to help.

Hcat I tried ondansetron but it seemed to trigger migraines for me, though many have had success with it. I still keep some dissolvable tablets in handbag for emergencies though as it was the only thing that helped the nausea. I'd say give it a try, not everyone gets the headaches.

Glitterball do you mean Stemetil injections? I had them in hospital in early days, they were so painful! One must have hit a nerve as my thigh muscle was painful for weeks after and kept getting weird fizzing sensations in leg!

LoveLetters are you feeling any better? Ice-lollies are a good way to combat dehydration, I lived mainly on Rocket lollies and Fruit Pastille lollies during relapses as everything else came back up. Have you got Ketostix?

Sorry if I've missed any new ladies! Hope everyone's coping ok Flowers

LilacWine7 · 14/06/2015 11:31

Chops I don't blame you for not wanting to risk the bus! I haven't risked buses or trains since HG started. Used to be sick in car a lot but ok with short car journeys now though i still have a stash of sick-bags and mints in glove compartment! Try to get some fluids down if you can, you sound very dehydrated. Sucking ice chips or ice lollies was only way i could keep liquid down on bad days.

Laura7010 · 14/06/2015 11:56

Lilac, thank you for the welcome :) I was supposed to be trying normal hours next week but I've been off Thursday and Friday with my cold. I feel it's set me back so I may have to request sticking at 75%. I'm not sure how I did it at my worst times. I was found one morning screaming in my classroom in sheer frustration having filled a sick bag on my drive in. That was a very low day.
Can I ask some veteran advice about medication. I take prochlorperazine which have made me feel much more normal for the majority of the time. I did start on cyclizine but this didn't work. I'm just worried I'll be taking it forever (that's how it feels right now) does there come a point when I have to stop? I've managed to get down from two, two times a day to two in the morning and one in the afternoon so far.

Hellohellohowareyou · 14/06/2015 12:13

chops I think the % thing is due to people not actually being diagnosed with HG, there's a massive grey area between what is HG and what is 'normal' morning sicknes. Unfortunately I think there is probably a lot of ladies out there who have or who are suffering with HG but are just putting it down to normal Ms.

Plus there seems to be few doctors who are really clued up on it all, well that's certainly been my experience. Especially in first pregnancies when women do not know what is and isn't normal they can be fobbed off. I was made to feel like a massive hinderance and the focus was definitely on the fact that it was my first pregnancy so I wouldn't know what to expect!

Thankfully I got listened to a bit more second time round!
