Urrrrgh... Feeling awful in early pregnancy

Hi all,

I'm about 7 weeks and feel AWFUL. So much worse then I was with my first two - eldest was sick morning, noon and night, but felt great with my youngest.
However, I feel so rotten with this pregnancy. Not really been sick just constantly feeling nauseous, period-pain like stomach cramps, being shivering-cold even though to touch I feel really hot, back ache & just completely knackered. I'm actually scared something is wrong the way I feel so awful. Urgh.

Mine was worst at seven weeks! I had to struggle into work.
It gets better Hun I am 12 weeks today and have only felt nauseous once this week.
Drink some ice cold sprite for the sickness and try and get as much sleep as poss. Also avoiding greasy and spicy food helped me xx

reb2g08 · 26/04/2015 07:24

P.s what you are feeling is normal!

Chickenandpenguin · 26/04/2015 07:28

I've been feeling the exact same op, and this is dc3 too. Had totally easy early pregnancies to this. I'm 7.3 weeks and constantly nauseous, exhausted, cold, crampy and grumpy. Not helped by my diet which is appalling as all I can stomach is carbs and cheese :( I was so fit and healthy prior to getting pregnant it's really getting me down. Im focusing on it passing at 12 weeks ish....hope it does for you soon x

scatterbrainedlass · 26/04/2015 07:56

Awww, my sympathies. You've been there before so you know it DOES get better! I wasn't too bad in first tri, but it was still miserable. Been second tri for a week, been feeling great, and tbh I've pretty much forgotten how bad I felt before!! If you think you're ill, go to GP with your concerns, otherwise, just try and take time for yourself (probably easier said than done with 2 already!) and hopefully you'll be feeling better soon xxx

Metalhead · 26/04/2015 08:03

I hear you! I'm 7+2 today and the nausea has really ramped up over the last couple of days, along with headaches. Not sure how I'll survive another 5 weeks feeling like this... Tried some lemon & ginger tea yesterday and it seemed to help a little, might be worth a try.

oddsocks300 · 26/04/2015 09:20

Thank you for your support and kind words! Chickenandpenguin, my diet at the moment is appalling too, because I'm off food I'm just eating as and when and what I fancy. I've eaten a dozen eggs in the last 3 days as I'm really enjoying scrambled egg and I really fancy salty chips all the time! I haven't told anyone at work yet, which is horrible when you're feeling awful and just want to curl up in a ball! I'm going to book an appointment at the GPs tomorrow as my vit D was on the low side before pregnancy, wondering if I need a higher dose now, and maybe that's contributing to feeling exhausted? Xxx

It's pretty grim, isn't it? I had a really shitty first trimester - just coming out of it now but still not feeling this mythical glow everyone talks about ;) it was horrible trying to cope at work (my boss is...unsympathetic to any time off etc.)

Don't stress about your diet - the baby will take what it needs from you and at this point it's about you just getting some calories down your neck. If that's eggs eggs and eggs then so be it! Try to sip water as much as you can but don't beat yourself up for a monotonous/crap diet right now.

One thing I find find that helped was getting some rest. Probably not too easy with other children but rest every opportunity you get :)

kelman13 · 26/04/2015 13:42

I'm 7w2 and feel exactly the same!!! So glad I'm not alone! ice cold water helps me!! I just want to stay in bed all the time! Hope it passes soon for you xx

allgoodthings84 · 26/04/2015 14:44

I gained most of my pregnancy weight in the first trimester, eating was the only way to help (not stop) the nausea. It was awful! Never felt so ill even when I had flu as it didn't go on so long. I was bad from 6-13 weeks then it all just went away. I wasn't actually sick once just constant nausea and general ill feeling. Our baby wasn't planned and it was feeling so ill at 6 weeks that made me think I was either pregnant or dying lol. Luckily it was me being pregnant lol. I'm now 36 + 4 and feel pretty great considering

MrsUnderwood · 26/04/2015 14:48

I'm 7 wks pg with my second child and feeling dreadful as well. I'm getting a serious phobia of food- I am really having to force myself to eat bits of toast as the thought of eating makes me feel nauseous. And I hate the smell of everything, even my own skin :(

aletea · 26/04/2015 14:56

Yes, I'm on number 3 too and this feels worse than the others. Maybe it's an age thing! It's the shivery cold one that gets me, never felt that before. And I'm on just 6w, I've hit ages to go!

Hi! I've just come on here looking for this exact thread, sorry to hear everyone's feeling rubbish but it's kinda nice knowing your not alone.
I've had terrible morning sickness with this second pregnancy since 6 weeks I'm now 9+4.
I've been given cyclozine to take when feeling sick but they don't help and make me so tired. I feel so lazy and helpless just laying around all day I've been signed off work for 2 weeks. What do we do Sad

Bristolian1 · 27/04/2015 04:52

I'm feeling awful too! Currently lying awake since 4am with horrible nausea though no actual vomiting yet. I also have headaches and chills oddsocks. Only 6+3 here and no idea how I'm going to cope with work tomorrow let alone another 6 weeks of this! Urgh.

Barley100 · 27/04/2015 07:07

I'm only around 4 weeks pregnant and have had nausea for the last 5 days. It's pretty debilitating and although I can eat, I'm having to pick my times! Really hoping this doesn't last, not sure I can cope with it for much longer. If I felt this sick normally I would have a day off work but because it's pregnancy related I feel like I shouldn't......what do people think?

Metalhead · 27/04/2015 09:28

barley I think you feel really bad then you should take the day off. I phoned in sick last week as I was supposed to finish a report that day and just knew I couldn't do it. Obviously you can't take off the whole time until you start to feel better (nice as that would be!), but I don't think there's anything wrong with taking a day here or there if you're really struggling. After all, like you say, you would if you weren't pregnant, and with a little baby growing inside you it's even more important to take care of yourself.

MrsUnderwood I had the smell thing with my first pregnancy, it was awful, I couldn't stand the smell of my house. Luckily no aversions to smell this time (yet)...

chopsface · 27/04/2015 10:47

6w today and the sickness has hit! I've had to call in unwell. I had no idea it would feel this bad! The weekend I was exhausted and just lay around most of it but I was able to eat normally until last night! I really can't imagine another 6 weeks of feeling like I do today! I just want to sleep! How does anyone go to work with morning sickness?!

Strawberryheart · 27/04/2015 11:07

I'm feeling slightly more comforted in the fact I'm not alone reading all this. I feel like crying!
I'm on my 4th pregnancy and so exhausted with chills nausea and aching in my digestive system, I can't look after my other children.
I am constantly burping as if going to be sick and there's no relief when I never am.
I had this with my 3rd and I had forgotten exactly how uncopable it feels :(
I'm trying acupuncture tomorrow (God knows how I'll deal with the car journey) but has anyone else found this help?

MummyPiggy87 · 27/04/2015 13:16

God yes the car journeys are horrendous to add to it Sad
I haven't tried that, can you let us know how you get on as its something I would try!

Strawberryheart · 27/04/2015 15:44

Yes I will let you know. Sorry I don't know how to tag people in this! MummyPiggy87.
X

MummyPiggy87 · 28/04/2015 13:31

I just want to add something as I've had to go back to work today! I found snacking on them belvita biscuits are helping so much! Just them and plain water, I've got the honey and nuts ones. Might not work for everyone though

Emerald33 · 28/04/2015 17:36

I'm at 11 weeks and whilst the constant nausea is still there it is not as intense as it used to be. I just feel sick all the time (hardly ever sick, but with plenty of retching in the morning) and driving and certain smells drive me to distraction. Find it hard to eat most things I used to love and can only seem to tolerate either the blandest of food or utter crap (for some reason I like the Filet o Fish from McDonalds, when I never went to McDonalds before I was pregnant!!).

Sugar-free Ribena helps me a lot (as does sleeping). Pretty fed up of it tbh, have not missed work but got home a number of evenings and just sat and cried for ages!

It is easing up a bit though so just hang on OP and you will (hopefully) make it through and feel better soon.

KO80 · 29/04/2015 15:24

I'm 12 weeks with my first baby, and I feel dreadful the constant nausea is just awful, and i've gone off pretty much all food. I also find I could like something one day but not the next. I also had a throat infection last week and have to take penicillin which I think is making me feel even worse.

I haven't enjoyed being pregnant so far I have been told the nausea should stop soon.

Sleeping really helps.

bearchomp · 29/04/2015 16:28

I'm 4wks pregnant with my 2nd and with ds the sickness /nausea was awful from 6 until about 17wks. I'm dreading the sickness kicking in with this one! What I found helped was keeping a stash of Alpen or Special K bars in my drawer and when I woke up I immediately sat up and ate a bar - I never fancied one that early but it helped me get through a couple of hours before the nausea came back.
Hope that helps someone

NoArmaniNoPunani · 29/04/2015 17:11

I'm only 5 weeks and the nausea is pretty bad already, but the extreme tiredness is horrendous. How can something so tiny be causing so much havoc already!
