It may seem a silly question but what are the sort of clothing is easiest to wear during labour ? Just a short nightshirt ? Or bra ? Smile

I packed short nighties and a tankini incase I got to use the pool - I ended up just wearing my bra, and then nothing while I was having an EMCS.

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 03/04/2015 22:22

Depends what sort of birth Smile

If you have an epidural, generally a hospital gown for access to your back.

If you have a waterbirth, often naked or maybe a t shirt or bikini top.

Otherwise, whatever suits. Some women like to be naked, or in a tshirt. Trousers or tights (a la Daphne in Neighbours) doesn't work particularly well Grin

I wore the hospital gown - messed up their stuff rather than mine!

GTbaby · 03/04/2015 22:23

I big baggy vest. Then a hospital gown.

Good luck.

Whatever you feel comfortable in but allows easy access for examinations and of course the birth.
I wore I night shirt that was long enough to cover my bum as didn't want everything on show until it was really needed and that unbuttoned down the front so I could have skin to skin without taking off.
If you feel like wearing just a bra or even nothing at all go for it!

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 03/04/2015 22:25

Big t-shirt at first, followed by nothing in the pool and during actual birth.

I recommend giving yourself one or two options, and then going with your instincts on what is comfy at the time.

Nowt in case it gets messy Smile.

I wore a tamkini in the pool and then a kaftan when I had to get out. Really didn't want to be naked. Kaftan was great as was so loose it was easy to do skin to skin when he arrived.

Passmethecrisps · 03/04/2015 22:29

I did a primark shop beore dd arrived. I bought a very cheap bathrobe and a bed shirt. I think I birthed in the shirt. Not entirely sure now actually. I liked the fact that the buttons offered access by I still had modesty.

I n practice I had no modestly obviously and dd could not have been less interested in boobage

Ohfourfoxache · 03/04/2015 22:36

I was all prepared with a couple of long shirt nighties, bras, strappy vest tops - made sure I had a variety.

When it came to it I was in a hospital gown - the midwives told me I'd be more comfortable in hospital stuff and that it was easier for them for access. And when it came to it I really didn't care! Grin

BiscuitMillionaire · 03/04/2015 22:38

By the time you're in full labour, you won't care what you're wearing, as long as it's comfortable. You certainly won't care what you look like.

Wishing you all the best.

notasleep · 03/04/2015 22:45

I was so worried about this, planned a water birth and bought a tank dress which I ended up ripping off after a bit as it obviously got wet and heavy and just annoying...

Ended up stark naked and did not care. And I'm usually a very shy body conscious person.

All I can advise is for afterwards bring the comfiest pjs you have, blissful to put on with some xxl black big pants!

Mouthfulofquiz · 03/04/2015 22:53

I had a nightshirt which had a few buttons up the front so I could get my boobs out! Then I shoved on some black harem pants on afterwards and I was nice and comfy.

Peaceloveandhobnobs · 03/04/2015 22:55

I made a big deal of buying a button-down nightie at great expense, but in the end I laboured in a tshirt, and delivered in my bra! The nightie was lovely to change into for the ward, though Smile

mumofmunchkin · 04/04/2015 15:14

I genuinely can't remember what I wore. I turned up to the hospital in jeans and a top - logic dictates I must have taken the jeans off at some point but I honestly don't remember when... I wouldn't worry too much, pack some comfy clothes and see how it all goes on the day.

PenguinPoser · 04/04/2015 15:25

I got a baggy night dress thing but as I was being induced - was on monitor and drip they wanted me in the hospital gown. Then I had an epidural too so hospital gown all the way. Couldn't have cared less what I was wearing Grin

hotchocforme · 04/04/2015 17:05

Yes, all modesty goes out the window. I think I wore a baggy long shirt or was I just in my tankini top by pushing stage? Hmm, can't remember.

GlitzAndGigglesx · 04/04/2015 17:18

I wore a night dress with buttons to bf then when I got moved onto the ward I changed into a stretchy top and leggings and my fluffy socks to feel right at home lol

strawberry01 · 04/04/2015 17:24

Once admitted to labour ward I popped on a tshirt style nightie (I'm sure it was from either tesco or primark for about a fiver) with sports bra and socks on. After giving birth I wore a vest top and kept on my bra for skin to skin (I new before hand I was not planning on breast feeding so a basic sports one did the job).

The midwife kind of prompted it when I was in my room she asked did I have something to change into or would I like a gown. After DD was born she asked me to take off my nightie for skin to skin. DH handed me my vest top at that point and she tucked DD into it. After showering I just put on very very loose pj bottoms with the vest top (it was roasting in the post-natal ward).

Missymum6 · 04/04/2015 17:28

Had a gown on but changed into a night shirt straight after c section, was nice as could still do skin to skin without the whole ward seeing me naked everytime a nurse pulled the screen back Blush

Bellingham · 04/04/2015 17:38

I packed a specific nightgown, long enough to cover the important bits, but roomy enough for access to the important bits, then arrived in the full flow of labour and absolutely refused to get changed into it! At one stage they tried to get the nice maternity top I was wearing off me but as I actually had to let go of the gas and air to do so I told them to fuck right off and cut it off. I know it came off somehow, as I'm wearing a hospital gown in post- birth pictures!

CityDweller · 04/04/2015 20:14

I had intended to be starkers, but I was so desperate to get in pool when time came that I just whipped off my bottoms. Didn't notice until after I'd pushed DD out that I still had vest and bra on.

RhubarbAndMustard · 04/04/2015 20:23

I wore DP's old denim shirt. Long enough to cover my bum, easy skin to skin by undoing buttons and I felt close to DP the whole time.
