Hello,

My waters broke at 7.30ish this morning, I have been to see the mw and was told it is my hind waters. I have until 7.30am tomorrow morning to get contractions going and my baby moving or I will have to travel to another hosp over an hour away to be induced. I would love to be able to go to our local mlu so would like as much support as possible to get things moving along! All suggestions welcome! Thanks xx

Keep moving, lots of walking, climbing stairs etc, bouncing on a gym/birthing ball if you've got one. Good luck!

Starlightbright1 · 02/04/2015 13:46

I was going to say the same as previous poster...Good luck

Seasidedolly · 02/04/2015 13:47

Ooh how exciting! Get bouncing on a ball and maybe go for a little walk.
I'm due Monday and waiting for something, anything to happen! Good luck x

RobotHamster · 02/04/2015 13:50

I strongly recommend the M&S tandoori. Get that down ya :D

and shagging. Obvs.

Cliffdiver · 02/04/2015 13:54

I don't think having sex is advised after waters have broken due to risk of infection.

How exciting for you op, you're going to meet your baby soon Grin. I agree with the bouncing ball and lots of walking. Good luck Flowers.

usernamefeefifoe · 02/04/2015 14:02

Thanks all. On my ball at the mo, being doing lunges and squats through out the morning. Hubby is at work so waiting on him to come home before I take on the big walk! Can't believe it's actually happening. only packed my hosp bag yday, currently 38 + 5. X

Argh, you're right. No shagging once waters have gone, ignore my advice on that one!

I stand by the curry recommendation though.

I'm so jealous right now, 40+1 and I got nothing! I got told to walk up and down the stairs sideways if that helps?! Good luck :-) x

MorgansMummy24 · 02/04/2015 15:46

warm bath also might help move things along x

My waters broke first with both of mine. IME, it's better to conserve energy. Nowt wrong with some ball bouncing and walking around, stair climbing etc but don't exert yourself too much. Stay well hydrated, eat some food and try and get some rest too. My labours once they started were 31 and 38hrs respectively. First time round I did all the running around I could and was knackered by the time it came to having a baby. Second time round I took it easy and slept lots and lots and lots. I was much perkier and recovered much faster.

Quinandthem · 02/04/2015 16:13

Don't be worried of the induction. Make sure you drink and eat well today.

My waters went at 7.30am and nothing happened afterwards. Was induced by pessary at hospital at 9pm (as they didn't want to induce early the next morning) and dd was born at 4.30am.

I could have gone on the mlu and had a water birth but baby's hb dropped and she pooed in water.

Now pregnant again and would 'happily' have the same labour.

Good luck.

usernamefeefifoe · 02/04/2015 17:25

Thanks all.

Yep shagging is off the menu but a curry is def on. Just back from a hilly walk, now time to order the takeaway. And see what happens. Not overly concerned about how my little one enters this world, I'm quite laid back (at the min ) once I have her/him in my arms that's all I want.

Feeling a little heavier down below with a little back ache buts that's about all.

Thanks for your posts they are keeping me positive. X

Do you know what position your baby is in?

You sound like you have a very healthy attitude.

usernamefeefifoe · 02/04/2015 19:25

Head down, back to my left side so hopefully all ready to go!

I'm with Grantaire, relax and save your energy-you're going to give birth soon. My waters broke first and i went into spontaneous labour pretty much straight away. I had 24 hours to progress and I must have walked 10 miles around the sodding hospital (waters were bloody so i had to labour at hospital). After an exhausting night bouncing around I got to 4 cm and contractions every 7 minutes and needed to be induced on the drip anyway. Grrrr. Wish I'd had a curry, paracetamol, bath and a sleep!!

icklekid · 02/04/2015 20:36

Good luck I was induced after hind waters going the day before - they ended up having to break the rest of my waters. I was gardening to try and get things going

Grantaire · 02/04/2015 21:43

That's good, position wise. I only ask because my waters broke specifically because my babies were in a weird position. It meant they didn't apply pressure to my cervix, popped my waters prematurely and had an effect on the progression of labour. Had I known the starting position could have had that knock on effect, I might have made decisions differently. Nothing drastic, second labour in particular was massively positive, just wish I'd known beforehand iyswim.

Hope you get a good night's sleep. I really do advocate as much sleep as possible!

usernamefeefifoe · 02/04/2015 22:13

Off to bed now. Hoping some sleep will activate things. Thanks for all your posts. X

Good luck!

tattychicken · 02/04/2015 22:57

I would clarify with the hospital their protocol re waters breaking. I had similar with DD2, and was told the 24 hour thing. When it got to 24 hours and I said I really didn't want to be indyced they were happy to wait, as long as the baby was ok and there were no signs of infection. When I pushed the consultant he said he would be happy to wait for 72 hours as long those conditions were met. DD2 popped out at about 48hours post waters breaking and was fine. She and I had been regularly monitored, had stayed in hospital (mainly tromping around the grounds with DH and spending time with DD1) and I was happy to wait.

BinarySolo · 02/04/2015 23:05

My waters broke with both my first 2 and then nothing happened so I had to be induced. Told my mw I was anxious about this happening again and she said 'lots of sex'! Grin she said the risk of infection was incredibly low since they get you in soon after anyway. I'm 39 weeks today and hoping I'll start naturally this time. Third time lucky right?!

Good luck

chiliplant · 03/04/2015 20:10

Ooo! I'm 39 weeks also today! Any signs? Good luck username.. I'm sure u will b OK. X

usernamefeefifoe · 04/04/2015 06:30

When I go to the hospital registrar and consultant advise me against a natural birth due to problems with my hips. So I had a section yesterday evening and I've just spent the majority of the night with my baby girl in my arms. Smile

BinarySolo · 04/04/2015 06:59

Congratulations on your little girl.

Grantaire · 04/04/2015 10:56

Oh congratulations! What wonderful news. Are you happy to share her name?

How are you feeling now? Both of mine were born by emergency caesarean after my waters broke as the first sign of labour. I purposely didn't mention this earlier so as not to worry you as- and I think you've probably found this out for yourself- a section is nothing to worry about and is just a weird experience if anything. The amazing baby they lift over the screen transcends the method of delivery rather.

If you have any trapped wind pain (normal after cs), peppermint is brilliant. They have it on the ward and will make it into a drink for you. It's magic!

Home today or tomorrow?
