Harmony test uncertainty, for those who've had it

Hi, I'm 37 and anxiously seeking some advice or should I say answers from mums who've actually had the Harmony test and then gone on to have their baby, was your Harmony test correct ?
Posted on another site but had no answers on this. I really would like to know the outcome for these ladies only.
I had a 1 in 20 chance of DS from my nuchal scan n bloods screen. Harmony test now tells me I'm 1 in 10,000 so massive difference. Obviously I'm pleased but NHS hospital are not giving me any hope here. I know all about amnio.
Just want to enjoy my pregnancy now, so please help if you're a mum to a healthy non DS baby and your Harmony was correct.
Thanks in advance.

i'm really sorry i don't have anything useful to say; i just didn't want to read and run. hope you get the answers you are looking for, and fingers crossed for you xx

Two of my friends were tested high risk in their pregnancies and both had the Harmony tests and went on to have perfectly healthy daughters.
Another is currently 34 weeks pregnant following the Harmony test and everything is going completely normally.

I personally had the Amnio as my husband is a very black and white person, and wanted a definitive answer. But if we had had the Harmony test, a result of 1 in 10,000 result would have put my mind completely at ease.

The tests are miles apart because the Harmony test tests far more accurately than the combined test. They have to give you a statistical number rather than a definitive yes or no - because it is not diagnostic, which the amnio is. But a ratio like this is very very good and if I were you I would try to put it behind you and enjoy your pregnancy - easier said than done I know!

I would trust the Harmony test. They are 99.9% accurate or something. Do you know what raised your NHS test?

Hopeful83 · 02/04/2015 15:42

I had the harmony test and my odds with NT were 1 in 11000 and my harmony odds were 1 in 47000 I think if I remember correctly. They also said it was a girl. My baby was born without DS and was a girl. I should probably add that I had the harmony due to a family history of other genetic disorders, not because of my nhs NT, which was obviously very good odds. I wanted to rule out all 3 conditions to give me a bit less to worry about

Monkeroon · 02/04/2015 16:10

I have also has the harmony test due to high risk. Baby born fine. I didn't want to have the amnio due to the 1 in 100 chance of miscarriage. Same as another poster says it's 99.9% accurate.

Tranquilitybaby · 02/04/2015 16:28

I'd trust Harmony over NHS testing. It tests DNA so is far more accurate.

LostMySocks · 02/04/2015 17:03

I had the harmony test. My NHS score was 1 in 125. Considered low risk by my health authority. Harmony have me 1 in 10000 which calmed me. DS is happy healthy 18 month old. I was nearly 38 when i had him

I had the Harmony test at the Fetal Medicine Centre at 10 weeks and got the results back before my NHS appointment. When I turned up for that, the hospital said they wouldn't bother doing the test since Harmony (and the scans from the FMC) was a lot more accurate.

NorahM · 02/04/2015 18:21

I had the same thing BNC. I had my Harmony done at 10w4d. I had my results before my 12 week scan. They didn't bother doing the screening as they said the Harmony results are far more accurate than the NHS screening. The technician didn't even bother measuring the nuchal thickness. She said the exact measurement is only needed as part of the screening. She just said it looks nice and small.

jessplussomeonenew · 02/04/2015 19:57

1 in 53 risk of Edwards based on bloods and nuchal, harmony gave 1 in 10,000 for all trisomies, healthy baby born last summer.

MissyBear10 · 02/04/2015 20:04

I went to fmc - google it. Harmony was brilliant - so accurate. Check in with them if you can. They are brilliant and will sort this out. Also, go on a wed and meet the fabulous Nicolaides. If you do need more invasive testing his your man.

Hi anxious.

i had the harmony test last year. I was considered high risk due to age and was 1:1000 with NHS and 1:10000 with harmony.

i am lying in bed looking at my beautiful 4month daughter asleep in cot beside me. No conditions etc.

i found it really reassuring but was v impatient for test results as they took 14days.

anxiousannie10 · 03/04/2015 17:49

Well the NT screen has certainly ruined my mood and stressed us both out. Wished I'd never had the screening now. Clinging on to hope of the Harmony test being correct. Just can't get those numbers, 1 in 20 out of my head.
Thanks all

I have just had the Harmony and opted out of the NHS screening for the reasons you describe - I didn't want the NHS clouding the Harmony result. My midwife told me the nuchal testing is 87% accurate and Harmony is more than 99%. It is being considered by the NHS as an alternative to amnios In high-risk pregnancies.
You don't have anything to worry about! Some people who had a NHS 1/20 would have had the Harmony as reassurance, it's just you've done it the other way round!

anxiousannie10 · 06/04/2015 16:26

No I had the nuchal first, then the Harmony. Just wondering about people who've gone on to have babies after their harmony and the test was correct. Smile

There was a study done in London on women who had the Harmony test and ALL cases of Downs were found in the sample of 2,000+ women who had the test. I hope that helps.

TimeforaDietCoke · 06/04/2015 20:02

Hello the Harmony test for our first baby came back high risk for Patau's (T13), which sadly was confirmed by a CVS. The blood results and NT measurement indicated an abnormality too, although we did not get a risk factor as the baby's problems were so clear from the scan.

daluze · 06/04/2015 21:19

1:20 still meant that 95% chances that baby does not have Down syndrome. You've got "typical" negative Harmony result 1:10000, so really no need to worry about trisomies.
There is a thread on mumsnet of one lady, which unfortunately had lowish risk with Harmony, and the baby had Down syndrome and some other issues, but her Harmony results were very odd, ~1:2,700, which I suspect was some error in interpretation of test either by lab or clinic.
Do you know what markers caused your initial high risk. There may be other causes of them, which sometimes need follow up (e.g. some changes in hormones levels may warrant growth scans later on).
However, most likely, everything is just fine. Try to relax! (My risk with first DS was 1:7, and he has typical chromosomes and is perfectly healthy 2 year old)

anxiousannie10 · 09/04/2015 23:44

Thank you daluze. My initial high risk of 1 in 20 was my age 37, an Nuchal measurement of 2.4 at twelve weeks and bloods were, HCG level of 73.0 ng/ml
PAPP-A Level 1601 miu/L
