I don't even want to think how much we have spent!! Blush

Gillian1980 · 28/03/2015 19:16

Actually not very much, we've been very lucky.

Travel system and crib are presents from grandparents but they weren't expensive in any case.

Moses basket, monitor, bath, toys etc. all hand me downs from friends.

I think we've spent about £20 on clothes, mostly second hand.

We still need to buy some bedding and maybe bottles in case fb doesn't work out.

TheMidnightHour · 29/03/2015 09:46

I was thinking of posting this Q! Am 17w with #1 and really wondering how much we need to spend in things like pram cot car seat.

So far have spent about £100, I think. £10 on 2nd hand Moses basket (new mattress should be about same again), £10 on sling, ditto, £20-30 on odds and ends at thrifts (a few toys, swim suit, sterilising stuff, bibs...) and the rest on clothes. Mostly 2nd hand but £25 on about 3-4 special items pushed the budget up!

irishamy89 · 29/03/2015 10:15

Oh my god, you ladies are so fabulously thrifty!
Our forecasted expenditure is around 1, 500.
This is if our parents don't contribute anything (they will but obviously I'm budgeting as if we have to pay for everything).
Big items on my list are as follows:

*Cybex Sirona car seat

*Bugaboo Cameleon

*Chicco next to me crib

*Baby Bjorn bouncer

*Baby monitor (sensor and video)

Obviously there are loads more medium and small items to purchase but they are the main ones! Grin

Haha no problem Gemerama! I've told dp about how thrifty everyone else is being on this thread and luckily he isn't put off by my forecast!
I guess our expenditure is more because we don't have any family with kids and our friends have young pfb so I'm sure won't give us anything as they might be planning to have more in the future.
So many items to consider, luckily like yourself our parents will probably by most of my "big" list and then I will be in a better position to buy other little luxuries for baby.

irishamy89 · 29/03/2015 10:32

avocadotoast · 29/03/2015 10:34

I don't have a clue, I haven't added it up!

I think we've done quite well though really. In terms of big stuff, my parents bought us the buggy and in laws are getting us a cot bed. We bought a bedside crib second hand for £68 on eBay. Car seat we got in the sale for £35.

We have bought some other bits of furniture, but we're getting a wardrobe free from my parents, and someone has lent us a playmat and nappy bin and a few other bits.

I'm 25 weeks and so far we've spent around £15 on two clothes bundles from e bay.

This, however is dc2. With ds (15 months) we never dare add it up but it will have easily topped £1000. We were the first in the family for years to have kids so no hand-me-downs and we bought some nice furniture too.

Carrierpenguin · 29/03/2015 14:08

I think with dc1 it was probably around £1600, but half of that was for an icandy which has proven to be a sound investment as used it for 3 years with dc1 and now will use it for dc2, it's still in great condition Grin

Haven't bought much else this time, will be using all the kit we bought last time.

HazleNutt · 29/03/2015 14:19

for DC2, I need a new mattress for the cot and..that's pretty much it I think.

For DC1 though I never added it up, a few thousand definitely - also got Bugaboo cameleon, Cybex, co-sleeper, Babybjörn, Angelcare monitor, Amby Baby hammock, Ergo and Moby carriers etc etc, all new.
I did get most of newborn clothes used though - they only use them for such a short time, so most of them look like new. Save buying new clothes when they're toddlers and wear them out.

whothefuckhas5children · 29/03/2015 16:14

We already have mix of boys and girls so have all the clothes etc so won't hve to buy anything for this new little one.
I always buy a first outfit so have spent 15 on that.

Our biggest expense will be a car as we no longer fit into our old one so about 20,000 !!!Shock

whothefuckhas5children · 29/03/2015 16:15

Hmmmm the fact that our house may be too small too ... Hmm Confused Shock

applecore0317 · 29/03/2015 16:28

I haven't added it up either...

My grandma bought us our travel system
My parents bought the cot
Moses basket from family and new matress and sheets from my Nan
£60 on a bedding and bumper set
£35 baby monitor (was meant to be £180, was reduced to £70 and we got £35 of vouchers) and a changing bag that only cost £25 because of the vouchers
Crib and mattress £42
Medela breast pump was given to me
Electric steriliser with vouchers
Cot Mattress, swaddles, bottles, thermometer and bath thermometer with vouchers we got for house sitting

We've been given loads of clothes, and other bits

I've bought a fair amount when out and about and have no idea what I have spent on nappies, clothes and other bits. Can't remember what else I have bought Confused

NickyEds · 30/03/2015 13:08

Good point Whothefuck.... I suppose I should add on the extra £3000 per year for renting a larger house! I'm amazed by how cheaply some people on here do it-we bought loads second hand and it still came to loads.

irishamy89 · 30/03/2015 13:18

Well said whothefuck and nickyeds. We'll be shelling out £40k upfront to purchase a bigger property. Painful isn't the word!!!!!!!!!!!Shock

NickyEds · 30/03/2015 14:04

To be fair irishamy no one has ever said "kids are really cheap aren't they??" Smile

irishamy89 · 30/03/2015 14:15

Haha certainly not Nickyeds!! I'm just so thankful were in a position to be able to take it!
Plus I'm loving all the baby item browsing on the net!! Grin

New adorable products on the list:
*Star baby wrap
*Neckerchew

GrinGrin

NickyEds · 30/03/2015 20:13

I'm about to enter Sling territory as I can't imagine leaving baby dd alone with ds (who'll be 19 months when she's born) even for a second so I think I'll need a good one!

irishamy89 · 30/03/2015 20:29

HahaI can only imagine. Children as lovely as they are can be little terrors around each other!
I have found the 'car seat research' the most time consuming!!
I love it really Grin

Potofdreams38 · 30/03/2015 20:51

So far...
Bednest, £260.00 with option to sell back.
Britax affinity pram and pushchair, £460.
Britax car seat, £100.
Rocking chair, £70.00
Given baby clothes, £0
Baby play mat, £25
Reusable nappies, £75 got to get more.
Blankets and few outfits, £100
Still got lots to get.
10 weeks to go.

TheMidnightHour · 07/04/2015 06:30

Finding this thread really interesting, as still have lots of big items (cot, car seat, pram...) to go. My mum pointed out yesterday that people might like to buy us things (big ones, like a pram). Not really sure how to deal with that, as I'd feel odd asking someone to pay new prices when I would buy 2nd hand but obvs can't expect my grandparents to stalk eBay!

Our spend is up from £100 I posted earlier, as we've bought a bundle of clothes (£15) and... a car. Existing one literally could not fit a baby seat, so necessary but put a dent in the budget.

Superexcited · 07/04/2015 10:34

We haven't spent anything yet as I'm only 12 weeks but we have had a browse and I reckon we will need to spend about £1k.
about £100 on maternity clothes
£500 travel system with car seat
£100 bedding
£100 clothing
£50 bottles and sterilising unit
£60 swing seat / bouncy chair
And another £100 on whatever other bits we might need including breast feeding pillow.
We really could do with getting a bigger car but we would need another £3k to upsize so we will have to wait a while.
