Heartburn

Any of you lovely ladies experiencing terrible heartburn?
I'm 27 weeks and its really painful! I've got Gaviscon but they don't seem to do much and they taste horrible!
I've been eating natural yoghurt to try to soothe it, a friend of mine recommended getting omeprazole from the doctor - but I'm not sure wether to or not, get worried about tablets in pregnancy!
What are you taking for heartburn? If left untreated is it dangerous? I've never had heartburn before!

I've had it also- got omperozole also. It's a life saver!
Gaviscon was making me sick- gross stuff so went to gp. 1 tablet a day and I don't get it at all. They wouldn't precribe it if there was a risk so def recommend getting some!

Oft this could be me. Mines is awful just now. Feels like I'm burning inside at times Sad

Gaviscon, rennies, glass of milk all work for a short while but it's gradually nor working.
I need to phone and arrange whooping cough vaccination and think I might have to make a Dr appoint for something.

I can't bare it anymore. It's awful. Between that and restless legs and pgp I was near greetin last night!!

Findingthisdifficult1234 · 20/03/2015 11:19

Okay I have doctor appt now! I can't cope with this any longer!
Agree that Gaviscon are horrid!!!
Comeagain I hope your ok! It's really awful isn't it!

I take Ranitadine. It's the only thing that works for me. Been on it for years, not just when pg, and it's fantastic. You can buy it over the counter but it's not as strong as what you can get on prescription.

comeagainforbigfudge · 20/03/2015 12:08

Well done finding

I'll follow your lead and phone after 1pm (lunch hour obvs)

Think I might need to ask for the dreaded laxatives. Going for a poo and SPD do not make for a happy day Sad

weeblueberry · 20/03/2015 12:13

I found gaviscon advance liquid much better than the tablets. I tend to take a glug followed by a glass of whole milk and that keeps it at bay for a few hours.

CBo79 · 20/03/2015 12:25

Yup :( After a fairly heartburn free pregnancy, where I was congratulating myself on having avoided the worst of it all, at 27 weeks heartburn and acid reflux have both swooped in - as well as sciatica and pelvic pain! Currently on Gaviscon and eating Rennies like they are sweeties, so this advice is much appreciated.

It's going to be a looong 3 months if this keeps up...

Findingthisdifficult1234 · 20/03/2015 12:39

Hmmm I might try the Gaviscon liquid as doctors isn't until next fri! It's so bad I wake up with a sore throat!

Hope all you lovely ladies are ok and are enjoying pregnancy otherwise?
SPD sounds horrid :( I never knew pregnancy would be so difficult! X

I feel li,e I've been eating Rennes as sweets! Some days I'm ok but other days I feel like I'm on fire

Cornberry · 20/03/2015 13:32

Get the omeprazole. It's safe in pregnancy and honestly since ive started taking it it's like the heartburn has been switched off.

abc111xyz · 20/03/2015 15:14

I though heartburn would mean DS would have lots of hair. He was completely bald! Still is in fact and 2 next month!!! HAHA!

comeagainforbigfudge · 23/03/2015 14:59

Woo hoo! Success at the doctors. Ranitidine prescription handed over. Here's hoping it works Grin

ihatelego · 23/03/2015 15:55

Rennies is the best i find!

LG1979 · 23/03/2015 16:17

Im 26 weeks and Gaviscon just isn't cutting it! To the point I'm about crying with heartburn during the night. GP has given me Omeprazole today and told me I can take 2 a day, so fingers crossed for a better night!

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 23/03/2015 16:29

I lived on chewable Rennie's throughout my three pregnancies. On the odd occasion I left the house without a pack of 20, I was in real discomfort. I slept upright most nights, and was glugging Gaviscon from the bottle.

You have my sympathy, OP.

minionmadness · 23/03/2015 16:42

Came on to say "Ranitidine" but see you got a prescription.

When I was pregnant with my twins I had horrid heartburn but within a day of taking these I never had it again throughout my pregnancy.

Hope they've worked their magic for you too...

Carrierpenguin · 23/03/2015 16:44

Gaviscon advance liquid is brilliant, tablets useless ime. Try sleeping propped up, as will encourage the acid to stay down...

joosiewoosie · 23/03/2015 16:59

I had the Asda fruit flavours calcium carbonate tablets. Comes in a pack of three or four - I kept one in the car, one on the bedside, one in my bag and a spare in the medicine box. Did the job well with the added bonus of tasting a bit like Refreshers! Wink

DanyStormborn · 23/03/2015 17:30

I hated the taste of Gaviscon so got Orange flavour Rennies which did the trick but I think when I took loads I was overdosing on Calcium a bit and gave myself a stomach ache. If it had got worse I would have gone to the doctor and got someing stronger like Omeprazole.

DanyStormborn · 23/03/2015 17:31

Oh yeah I made sure I had the Rennies in my bag and by my bed, desk etc as when heartburn hit it was sudden and I needed them quick.

Ilooklikeawhale · 23/03/2015 17:45

You can get Ranitidine over the counter before your appointment. Gaviscon does nothing for me either, you probably need something a lot stronger.

frog51 · 23/03/2015 18:18

Ginger worked a treat for me. Either chopped up and infused in warm water to drink or ginger biscuits.

GandTnow · 23/03/2015 18:25

Try love hearts. I know it sounds strange, but I found about 5 of them together really worked.
