Did you choose to have a second c-section?

I had an emergency C-section with my first baby. For those of you who ihad a c-section too...If you had a second baby, did you opt to have another C-section or give birth 'the natural way'? If you had a C-section again, did you regret it?

I've opted to have another section after having an emergency one 3.5 yrs ago. I can't say whether I'll regret it or not as its in a little over a week's time, but at the moment it feels the right decision.

NoraRobertsismyguiltypleasure · 16/03/2015 17:52

I had an emergency c-section with my DD and I would totally choose a c-section again but that's mainly because I did not suffer particularly afterwards and healed pretty quickly. I also would not want to be in labour for 3 days again!

PrincessOfChina · 16/03/2015 17:56

I've chosen to have another. No advice yet as it's not for another couple of weeks but it's much less stressful than waiting for labour!

I had an EMCS first time round and was offered an ELCS next time round but I went for a VBAC.
I ended up with another EMCS so naturally I regretted my decision.

FaFoutis · 16/03/2015 18:00

I had another CS. It was great.

Haggisfish · 16/03/2015 18:10

I had an elcs after an emcs. It was great-much more relaxed thAn first although I was much more anxious for elcs. I do have a pang that I won't experience natural birth but I absolutely did not want a repeat emcs.

Haahoooo · 16/03/2015 18:14

I had an ELCS after having had an EMCS first time round. Lovely, relaxing experience and very quick recovery. Good luck

trilbydoll · 16/03/2015 18:20

I am booked in for an elcs this time. DD never engaged or really got moving in a downward direction - I suspect a big reason for this was that my hips were in such agony, I was slumped on the bed in a perfect "how not to give birth" position!

While obviously no two births are the same, it seems likely my hips might be an issue again, in which case I'll have the same problem. My recovery was far better than friends who had difficult natural births, so it's a no brainer for me.

HadMyTwo · 16/03/2015 18:35

I had second planned section, went well. Had planned the third one, she decided to come early so had an emergency section.

dashoflime · 16/03/2015 18:40

I had an elective CS on Thursday, after an ECS last time. No regrets. I felt very confident having had one before, knowing what to expect and aIso that I healed quickly the last time.
I rocked up to the hospital at 7.30 and DD was born at 9.22. No pain, no fuss and out of the hospital on Saturday.
Id do it again in a heartbeat

kaymondo · 16/03/2015 18:42

EMCS first time after a failed induction. I would have liked a VBAC for dc2 but was adamant that I didn't want to have another induction so my consultant basically booked a ELCS for 41 weeks which is when they would have been looking to induce normally, but giving me the opportunity to go into labour naturally. It didn't happen and I had a lovely relaxed section, great recovery and no regrets. I just don't think my body knowshow to labour!

BirdInTheRoom · 16/03/2015 22:44

I was in exactly the same situation as kaymondo.

Had EMCS with DC1 due to failed induction. Considered VBAC only if I went into labour naturally but did not want to be induced again. Had ELCS with DC2 and 41 weeks.

Now have ELCS booked for DC3 at 39 weeks!

moggiek · 16/03/2015 22:50

First DS was elective section (breech). VBAC for DS 2 and 3. Never regretted pushing for VBAC.

BirdInTheRoom · 16/03/2015 22:57

I should add, very slight pangs of regret that I will most likely never experience a good natural birth, but I don't regret at all the fact that my babies arrived safe and sound, with no drama, and the way they came into the world is pretty insignificant now they are older. Smile

SlinkyB · 16/03/2015 22:57

EMCS for ds1 (undiagnosed breech). Didn't want to risk another emergency one, and have never had a desire to labour naturally/give birth vaginally, so opted for elcs with ds2 last year.

SlinkyB · 16/03/2015 22:58

I agree bird; so much more to parenthood than how they come into the world.

WidowWadman · 16/03/2015 22:58

I had an ELCS after my EMCS and no regrets whatsoever.

PacificDogwood · 16/03/2015 23:01

I had a VBAC (well, two) after emCS, but also had had an induced VB before the CS so had a 'tested pelvic' (daft phrase).

What matters more than what we all did or what outcomes we had, is the reasons for your CS (is that reason likely to recur?) and your personal circumstances.

And yes, how babies arrive is a tiny part of parenting and IMO not worthwhile getting too hung up about.

PacificDogwood · 16/03/2015 23:02

I didn't have to push for VBAC btw - consultant was totally up for it.

mewkins · 16/03/2015 23:02

I chose to have another. It was fantastic and absolutely pleased with my decision. The experience put to rest the horrors of previous labour and emcs.

perfectlybroken · 16/03/2015 23:06

Opted for vbac, got another emergency c-section but don't regret trying a natural birth

GherkinMuncher · 16/03/2015 23:19

Sorry to hijack the thread, but could I just ask how willing the consultant is likely to be to sign off an elcs?

My first baby was emcs, 19 months ago. I'm due next month. Midwife wants to go for a vbac, but I think I'd prefer another section. My only reservation is not being able to pick my toddler up for a little while.

I'm seeing the consultant later this week.

Thanks.

moggiek · 16/03/2015 23:24

My first VBAC was almost 30 years ago. I really had to stick to my guns to be allowed to try for a vaginal delivery.

BirdInTheRoom · 16/03/2015 23:26

They will usually make you wait until 36 weeks to book one in and ask you to consider VBAC. If you still want one at 36 weeks they should book you in without any issues.

SuburbanRhonda · 16/03/2015 23:30

Another one who had an emcs followed by an elcs.

The registrar recommended the elcs because DD has been big (10lb 3) and DS was on target to be a whopper (10lb 6 in the end). So relieved and it was a brilliant experience.
