I am amazed being Mrs sensible I have even found myself posting this.

I have just found out I am pregnant.

I was out drinking with friends mistake 1 but most people will have been drunk before finding out they are pregnant!! This I'm fine with and drinking stops.

However the group of people I was with were doing coke. Not a bother to me, it's their life.

However there were canapés on offer which I thought nothing of and ate. One of the guys had put some on a flipping salmon snack?!!!! He says wasn't a lot, less than a line or thereabouts (I'm not a coke user so I've no idea what a line would look like quantity wise) anyway I did feel the effects of it. I have no idea if I was off my head or just a little bit high.

The morals and issues with that aside (he has been dealt with) I'm worried what that will have done to the development of a five week old baby?! Such a small amount as a one off I would have hoped would not cause an issue I hope however Dr Google tells me I'm going to hell and have done irreparable damage. I don't want to raise this to my gp as it'll be put on my record as I'm a user when I'm not at all.

Has anyone done this during early pregnancy and if so what were the consequences For you/baby.

I really don't need the judging etc as it's not needed. my biggest concern at the time is that I still bf my youngest (nearly two years old) occasionally at night and I've temporarily stopped as I've no idea how long it takes to leave your body. None of these people are regular users, city workers letting loose but have learnt a lesson from this I hope. They now know I'm still bf but not that I'm pregnant.

Did he know you were pg ? Shock and even if he didn't Shock.

geekymommy · 16/03/2015 19:29

Does your friend know her BF did this? What does she think? I'd seriously rethink the friendship if she thinks what he did was funny, or even OK. I think most sensible people would agree it's dangerous and wrong to give someone drugs without their consent.

applecore0317 · 16/03/2015 20:50

What a twat!! I would really kick off if I were you. Definitely get some confidential advice. I have no experience myself as have never done drugs, but I do know someone who had celebrated her husbands birthday party with bucket loads of champagne and then a few lines of coke, and was crying on my shoulder that night upset because she had been trying to get pregnant for so long and had by then given up trying. Turned out she was 8 weeks pregnant and had no idea.

She now has a healthy three year old

JohnFarleysRuskin · 16/03/2015 20:54

It will be fine. It was a one off. And yes I know people who've done similar.

wildpoppy · 16/03/2015 21:43

personally i think you would be absolutely mad to ask a professional this as it will get you on all kinds of registers. IF you are concerned ring an anonymous helpline (I think tommys do one). But you will be fine.

RJnomore · 16/03/2015 21:51

Poppy would you care to expand on which (imaginary) registers you are referring to?

Op, don't worry, and don't let posts like that freak you out. Ask for support and reassurance if you need it.

wildpoppy · 16/03/2015 21:57

Yes of course - the drugs on salmon snack register that each council keeps of course!

The social services at risk register. I cannot see a mw not keeping note of this or informing ss.

OurMiracle1106 · 16/03/2015 21:58

Personally I would be reporting it to the police. Cocaine increases your heart rate and if you were to have an existing heart problem could cause serious issues. I would be reporting to the police.

Ignore the "at risk register" comment, nothing like that would happen.
I'm sure everything will be fine, maybe explaining to the MW for some reassurance might help you.
I think in your situation I would wait for my next scan, or try and get an early scan to ease my mind.

RJnomore · 16/03/2015 22:22

Op, honestly, you've about as much chance of ending up on the drugs on salmon snacks register from this as the at risk register.

Aley009 · 16/03/2015 23:52

Hi I know someone who also didn't know they were pregnant and snorted coke whilst at a club she was 4 weeks and had a totally normal pregnancy and totally healthy baby no problems atall. I think you may be fine although I must admit I'm not sure about the facts as you ate it but I can't see it being much difference

TheSmallerBadger · 17/03/2015 00:02

I really don't believe that a midwife is going to be informing social devices about this!

Moreisnnogedag · 17/03/2015 01:02

No but I can imagine it going in your permanent medical records, which I'd rather not personally.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 17/03/2015 06:35

I would only want to seek advice anonymously. I wonder whether you're better off speaking to a drug/addictions agency. I asked for advice on drinking and it was pretty vague.

I wouldn't tell anyone - very unlikely it would cause harm. Isn't there that fact that drinking alcohol affects a foetus more than cocaine? I really don't think a small amount once will have any effect, forget about it. And lose the 'friend'

BooChunky · 17/03/2015 07:42

You don't think a midwife would inform SS? I do! Even if they believe that it wasn't your fault, you still associate and socialise with drug users.

Do as a pp suggested and call an anonymous line.

gamerchick · 17/03/2015 07:54

I'm finding it very hard to believe you got a buzz from eating a tiny bit of coke on some food.

I think you are ok until 21 days past ovulation. I am sure I read that you don't share a blood supply until then.

There is other stuff in cocaine too though, that could be mixed with anything. I would go to the doctor and tell them you have been spiked and ask him what to do. You have done nothing wrong at all here, you definitely wont be put on the canapé register if you were spiked. that list is just for wank bags like your man who did this.

Best of luck.

sianihedgehog · 17/03/2015 08:44

OP, really, don't worry. It will be absolutely fine, and yes I know people who have taken drugs in pregnancy. The risks from prenatal cocaine exposure were WILDLY overblown in the 80s and 90s, and current data shows that the risks are very small. Wikipedia says "The effects of cocaine on a fetus are thought to be similar to those of tobacco and less severe than those of alcohol." en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prenatal_cocaine_exposure

That said, your mates boyfriend is a twat, spiking people is utterly unfunny.

sianihedgehog · 17/03/2015 08:49

Also there is absolutely zero chance of you being put on the at risk register for "knowing and associating with drug users". Honestly, if that was going to happen pretty much everyone under 45 would be on it.

sleeponeday · 17/03/2015 09:14

Here. It's the national service to advise on teratological risk - medical staff use it so I don't know if they will/can advise you, but definitely worth trying, as the answers will be factual and authoritative. My understanding is that you are fine - at the earliest stages, either changes to the development of the fetus are so profound it becomes incompatible with life, or it's fine. Developmental problems to an eventual person are created by drug (including alcohol) exposure later, as far as I know. But I am not an expert.

I am so sorry this has happened.
