Morning sickness or lack of

I'm 6 weeks pregnant (with my 1st) and vaguely nauseous sometimes but not anywhere near what I was expecting. I read that vegetarians get less morning sickness. Anyone else heard that? I've got a bad tummy instead. Is anyone else around 6-7 weeks with no morning sickness? Any other vegetarians about?

Apparently it usually starts at around 6 weeks so you might yet get it, I hope for you that you don't though, it's rubbish! I haven't heard anything about a difference between meat-eaters and vegetarians, I thought it was just a hormone thing.

BubblesInMyBath · 14/03/2015 10:41

Meat eater here - I had none whatsoever throughout my pg. virtually no symptoms at all in fact (other than growing belly and kicking baby) - have a happy healthy child

I think it's just luck/hormones

Some people say they get it more with girls than boys - don't think there's any science to it but it's a fun old wives tale to play with in early pg

StrawberryCheese · 14/03/2015 10:48

I'm 12 weeks and had no sickness. I have had the odd day of feeling nauseous and I have had horrible indigestion, but that's as bad as it has been.

I don't know about the vegetarian theory, I used to be a vegetarian until a couple of years ago but now I eat meat of some form once/twice a week. I think sickness is hormone related rather than diet.

scatterbrainedlass · 14/03/2015 10:53

I was fine until about 6 weeks, had nausea but no vomiting for a week, 7+3 now and it seems to have improved for now. I'm not vegetarian. I think it just affects people differently.

theaveragebear1983 · 14/03/2015 10:58

Apparently there's a link between morning sickness and magnesium deficiency; it could be that your vegetarian diet is high in magnesium rich foods like beans, pulses, green veg etc and this has safeguarded you a little. I had no sickness with my first and absolutey terrible sickness with the second and this current pregnancy. Enjoy it while it lasts!

PinkParsnips · 14/03/2015 10:59

I had no sickness at all either, just a slight queasiness with being gut-wrenchingly starving all the time!!

Cornberry · 14/03/2015 11:08

I'm a vegetarian and have had such bad morning sickness ive been signed off work for two months. I think it's just luck. There doesn't appear to be any logic to it. I will say that mine only got really bad at 7 weeks and then worse at 8 and then worse at 10-11. For some women it only kicks in a bit later? Just count yourself lucky that you may have escaped it because it's truly truly horrible. Good luck x

batfish · 14/03/2015 11:12

I'm not vegetarian but am 10+1 and have had no symptoms at all other than sore boobs. This all had me extremely worried but I had a scan a week ago and all is perfectly fine so now I just think myself v lucky that I feel good - don't worry if you don't have anything going on.

applecore0317 · 14/03/2015 12:38

I'm a meat eater and having a girl and didn't get any morning sickness, am now 29+3

ThatBloodyWoman · 14/03/2015 12:39

I wasn't a veggie with my two pregnancies but I didn't get morning sickness with either.

MorgansMummy24 · 14/03/2015 14:22

I am 7 weeks four days pregnant and I have no morning sickness whatsoever, I have just been to an early pregnancy scan and baby is present with strong heartbeat! Try not to compare, each pregnancy is different :)

crazycatlady82 · 14/03/2015 14:40

Hi

I have had 2-3 waves of nausea in total, never been sick and I am 9 weeks tomorrow.

I rarely eat meat but I have recently been including venison weekly for the iron content as I am potentially at risk of having low iron levels.

I think the only symptom I have really had is cramping and sore boobs. The cramping has stopped now though Smile

crazycatlady82 · 14/03/2015 14:41

Also I think it may be hereditary as my mum didn't have much nausea either.

Oh and lastly scan showed a heart beat, so all is fine so far Smile

Elledouble · 14/03/2015 14:42

I'm a vegetarian and was sick every morning for a few weeks (it wasn't too bad though) but another woman at my work who is pregnant wasn't sick at all and isn't vegetarian. It's just luck, I think Smile

CuntCourtIsInSession · 14/03/2015 14:48

I'm nearly six weeks and asked my GP about this on Friday - she said while it kicks in around six weeks for a lot of women, it is just too variable across pregnancies to really draw any comparisons between people.

Thankfully I have plenty of other symptoms to keep me occupied. crying at Lidl ad

Jackiebrambles · 14/03/2015 15:00

I had no sickness first pregnancy (a boy), just very occaisional mild nausea.

But I'm pg with a girl now and had sickness and nausea from around 7 weeks I think, up to around week 13. I reckon its just luck and / or how your body reacts to the hormones.

You might escape op!

My sister is a veggie and had terrible sickness pretty much all the way through her pregnancy. So much so she's stopped at 1 child. She had a boy.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 14/03/2015 15:01

Mine kicked in at 8 weeks and is still going strong at 24 weeks!

Sojii · 14/03/2015 17:29

Thanks guys! I guess everyone is different. I was getting a little paranoid with only sore boobs for a symptom and I can't get an appointment at the doctor till the end of the month unless there's an emergency. Does paranoia count as an emergency?

Today DH has discovered he can make me burst out crying by pulling a sad face, showing me a donkey sanctuary advert or pointing out how cute the cat is. I guess that's symptom number two kicking in.

Meat eater here, had no morning sickness at all, just felt a bit queasy if I got hungry, and was UTTERLY EXHAUSTED for weeks. None of the women in my family have had morning sickness either, so I reckon it might be genetic.

reb2g08 · 14/03/2015 17:55

I'm 6+1 and no sickness but extremely tired and hormonal! Let's just hope the sickness doesn't arrive in next few weeks

batfish · 14/03/2015 17:55

sojii try not to worry, sore boobs is the only thing I have had too and in my scan a week ago all was perfect so I'm sure it will be for you too. The worrying is absolutely awful though so I hope you get your reassurance soon.

Sojii · 14/03/2015 19:21

Thank you batfish! I was driving myself crazy almost willing myself to be sick. I haven't told anyone yet so I am sooo glad to be able to ask for other opinions on here. X

Becca83 · 14/03/2015 19:48

I thought I'd escaped it bit it kicked in at 8 weeks and was horrendous until very recently. Still sick most days now, but nowhere near as bad and I'm kind is used to it!

squizita · 14/03/2015 20:33

My mum carried twins with zero sickness.

Some people are just lucky! Grin
