Hi
I'm just wondering so I can make some comparisons.
Expecting ds2 soon. With ds1 I did have cravings but this one I'm eating breakfast thinking about snack, eating a snack thinking about lunch. Basically eating lots more.
That I'm not so worried about as I'm a size 8-10 but I'm craving sweet things all the time.
I do have a good home cooked healthy meal in the evenings but breakfast is a BIG bowl of Special K ( which I know has a lot of sugar) , I'm eating biscuits! Lots of them and daily chocolate, sweets etc.
my ds1 was born late and only 5lb6oz and apparently I'm likely to have another small baby this time according to the consultant however am wondering should I just go with what my body is craving or try to curb my cravings and stop eating the crap altogether ( or try to)

I don't drink anything other than water, decaf tea and fizzy water mixed with juice but again have been craving coke!!
Interested to hear from others . I'm thinking I may need to
Try to curb it a bit.
Midwife said that by eating more it won't necessarily mean I'll have a bigger baby!
Thanks

I had a crisp sandwich for my lunch so I guess the answer to your question is "not very".

I told my mw I was craving crap and she said to eat what you like (especially since I had morning sickness)unless your body tells you to eat 10 KFCs.........in which case only have 5! My diet's ok generally (although I've put on loads more weight with this one than with ds) so i'm not going to stress out over the odd piece of cake or biscuit.

comeagainforbigfudge · 12/03/2015 15:38

I just had a sausage roll. Was lush Grin

StrawberryCheese · 12/03/2015 15:42

Well today I've hardly eaten anything, just grazed on oatcakes so not a great example. I can easily demolish a big bowl of sugary cereal like you but I don't think it's worth feeling guilty about. As NickyEds says as long as you're not scoffing 10 KFCs I don't think you should be too strict with yourself.

JassyRadlett · 12/03/2015 15:46

I'm 7 weeks and 4 weeks into bad morning sickness. At the moment I am eating a limited range of Green Things (green innocent smoothies, avocado on toast, green grapes), and the odd ham sandwich as the only foods that do not trigger sickness, usually.

So the answer is 'not at all, unless I am having a green baby'.

Matilda30 · 12/03/2015 15:47

I've not eaten very well and I always planned to be a super healthy pregnant lady but my low mood has put a stop to that as I have little energy to make nice healthy meals. Hoping it will improve as I feel like I should be having lots of fruits n veggies, as opposed to crisps and crumpets!

Focusfocus · 12/03/2015 15:47

I'm Indian, living with my white British husband and our kitchen reflects a mish mash of this and that and anything DPup won't steal

Breakfast till now has been either Option A porridge with banana and seeds or on leisurely weekends Option B two egg omlette with spinach and seeds or Option mc for too-tired days which a mug of milk with Horlicks and banana. Meal nets 1 of 5 a day.

Lunch is standard fare on most days. An Indian concoction of Red Lentils, rice spinach, curry spices and bit of ghee all boiled together while some sliced aubergines get grilled into a version of my grandmother's "fried" aubergines. That with a glass of orange juice. Meal nets 4 of 5 a day.

Dinner is some chicken curry/fish curry/meatballs/grilled salmon/chilli with steamed broccoli, carrots and potatoes with skin on or brown rice. Nets 2 of 5 a day.

And then - there could be madness. Night time snack could be chips from the chippy, or cheese roasties or KFC if I aunt be bothered to do dinner, which is rare. But there is always a post dinner moment of weakness for salty oily things. I hate sweets so don't have the cake and choc problem.

I've decided to believ I am eating healthily with the spinach and lentils and broccoli and what not. nobody will notice the additional chips

I've always been a big eater although I've always eaten healthily. But since being pg (I'm 7wks) I've been wanting high sugar and high fat foods so much more. I think it's a tiredness thing - I feel v tired a lot of the time and that's when the body wants a quick fix so I've been reaching for the biscuits so much more! I think it's good to make sure you keep eating healthily to get all the good nutrients but also fine to eat the nice stuff if that's what your body wants. By the way, to help stop snacking (and this goes whether pg or not) consider swapping your special k for something less sugary (like toast). I did this a year ago and it made a massive difference to my hunger levels as I didn't get a sugar-low mid morning.
I don't think it will make a difference to baby size either way though.

HazleNutt · 12/03/2015 16:26

Well..chocolate, that's made out of cocoa beans. Beans - legumes - healthy, right?

spudnik1 · 12/03/2015 17:11

I am eating a lot especially whispas one a day at the moment. today i have had

Double breckie which was bananas on toast followed by cheerios 6am
break was a banana and squares crisps 10am
lunch was hm leek and potato soup with 2 pieces of toast and a caramac 1pm
afternoon break was a handful of grapes 3pm

and i have just scoffed a whispa and some monster munch cause waiting till DH comes in at 8pm for tea would be the end of me!

Problem is i have fixed breaks at work and if i dont eat something during them, then i dont get to eat, and not eating makes me sick. At weekends i am so much better (although i still have a double breckie)

Bogal · 12/03/2015 17:15

After a virtuous day of eating bran flakes, fruit and soup I'm tucking into a multipack of teacakes and a share bag of tortilla chips Grin

LollieLoves · 12/03/2015 17:22

I just had two M&S cream slices. One of them was meant to be for DH....

Craving sugary stuff all day long.

scarednoob · 12/03/2015 17:28

i'm generally trying to hit the 5 a day and at least 2 portions of fish a week, as i don't like meat, and the thought of eating it after 23 years of not doing is just... i can't face it!

but it is being supplemented by quite a lot of crisps and chocolate, if i'm honest. i've also cut the diet coke right down from a couple of cans a day to a couple of cans a week, which is killing me!

Frolicacid · 12/03/2015 18:02

I'm 17 weeks tomorrow. I've had hyperemeses and have mostly lived on plain crisps since mid December, with the odd slice of toast, portion of chips and plain noodles thrown in. I have drank falling of squash. Probably the most unhealthy I've ever been. But I figure something is better than nothing.

SueV14 · 12/03/2015 18:05

Just ordered pizza Blush

birchwoods · 12/03/2015 18:07

I'm just on my way out to get chicken and chips from the chippy...so no, not eating very healthily (pre-preg was a bit of a health freak...long gone). Just because I'm greedy and have no self-control.

MSMB · 12/03/2015 18:30

For the first 20 weeks I was really sick so I actually lost weight but lived off boiled sweets, so really unhealthy. Since then I've tried to be healthy but find it hard to resist sugary cravings. I try to eat 3 healthy meals with plenty of fruit and veg as much as possible but today just caved in when I drive past a Drive thru ??

snowydrops · 12/03/2015 19:45

Sounds similar to me...I'm 39 wks now with DC2. First time around I was pretty healthy, started out size 8, 8.5stone or a bit over. I put on two stone and baby was 6lb 5oz and two weeks late.

This time I have eaten a lot less healthily, still get what I need in terms of vitamins and protein BUT with added carbs, chocolate and cheese. 2nd tri I wasn't too bad but first and third I've eaten a lot. I started at 9st 4lb and am just under 11st now at the end. In fact I lost a lb last week.

My point is if you're small ish and pretty active (you already have another DC right?) then you probably will end up about the same as last time. I am quite surprised I can eat this quantity and still not be a total whale!! Baby is supposedly bigger and will be 7.5lb by due date which I am glad of because Dd1 struggled to feed a bit as she was so small even at two weeks over. My DH constantly told me I didn't eat enough first time around and I guess this time I've just eaten more but nothing super bad e.g no McDonald's, rarely eat crisps and chips buy anything else (and sweet stuff) I do eat...!

It's been variable tbh.

I've lost a stone since lmp, have only started gaining a lb or 2 the last week and I'm 16 weeks now. I wasn't ever sick but feeling nausea killed my appetite. I skipped dinner loads.

Pregnancy turned me off alcohol (handy!), cheese, bulky carbs like bread & pasta, fizzy drinks. No wonder I've lost weight!

But the flip side is that I'm hardly eating veg. I'm having oranges and bananas and taking pregnacare. Eating a fair chunk of good red meat to up my iron. Glasses of milk and creamy sauces & desserts to get some calcium.

I seem to alternate between salty and sweet cravings. So I've eaten more crisps than the whole of last year. Thankfully the sweet cravings have been sporadic so it's a couple of Malteser bunnies a week.

I'm still marginally obese so am aware I have to be careful. I gained almost 4 stones last pregnancy. Have never recovered.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 12/03/2015 20:00

My palate has totally changed since pregnancy, I was the same in my first pregnancy and put on 5 stone Shock started off size 8 but ballooned. Lost it all again once I started eating normally again so don't worry, give your body what it wants.

I normally avoid sugar but it's all I want in pregnancy! Bags of wine gums, chocolate, sweets or any sort especially chocolate eclairs. First tri it was salty things but I'm off that for now at 28wks. Special K, yum.

First tri I lived on crisps, ice lollies, yoghurt and the occasional plain baked potato.

I'm aiming to eat healthy meals then I feel less guilty about all the crap snacks. Baby gets what it needs from the meals, I get what I need from the snacks Grin

theaveragebear1983 · 12/03/2015 20:04

I'm 9.5 weeks, having bad all day nausea so my diet has been less than healthy. Have managed to eliminate virtually all food groups from my diet due to extreme food aversions and am gradually trying to phase them back in. Currently managing bread, butter, ham, bit of salad, bit of fruit. No hot food seems palatable, and most sweet food is off the menu. Yesterday I made a fruit cake and ate the whole thing, but it was more to get some nutrients (I put nuts, dried fruit, bran etc into it). When I had DD I lived off sugary sweets and gained quite a lot of weight. When I had DS I ate a really healthy diet and craved beetroot so ate a jar a day! Still gained over 3 stones! I really don't thinkit matters too much, unless you're eating ridiculous quantities of junk. I did read somewhere that if you crave sugary food it's more than likely mood related (eg comfort food) rather than a genuine need ( and that would definitely apply to me withDD). when I think about the last few weeks and the next 30 weeks,it's quite frightening to think how massive I could be if I keep eating like this!!

Chchchchanging · 12/03/2015 20:09

Anything that's microwaveable
I am in the middle of a build
It's hideous

Crumbelina · 12/03/2015 20:15

I'm mainly living on boiled sweets, cream crackers, Lucozade, crisps and cheese. I couldn't care less. I feel nauseous most of the time and these are the only things I can bear to eat!

There's plenty of time to be healthy and I read that the baby doesnâ??t need too much nutrition from me yet at 7+6 (just as well). I'm also taking those awful massive vitamins.

Crumbelina · 12/03/2015 20:18

Oh Changing, me too! My house is pretty much a building site and we're mostly living in one room. Sad We've still got to knock down loads of the house and rebuild it before my DD in October. (Sorry to derail OP).

toffeeboffin · 12/03/2015 20:26

I went to an all-you-can-eat Indian buffet for lunch today so my reply would be ‘not very’.

Have been quite good this week though – apart from pizza and a couple of glasses of wine.

I’m not pregnant though – you can eat whatever you damn well like!
