I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Sorry that eallsion and BarmeeMarmee are suffering from nasty symptoms - and eallsion I'm so happy you find my words strike the right note; with me it's an ild memory, but one never forgotten... Trixy I found chicken the best possible meat when a bit better, though not the greasy sort, more the dry bits, breast and so on.
Waves to lovely Meerka and leaves clucking and aiming the odd peck at unsympathetic medicos...

Hello yes, they are the dissolvable ones called bucsten or something. The sickness wasn't too bad yesterday and I've only been sick a few times today. I'm keeping small sips of water down now but what I really want to do is gulp. I still feel so dehydrated. I have some Ice lolly moulds so I will see it they help with the insane dry mouth.

DP told his boss yesterday who seems understanding. He will be allowed to work from home if it is absolutely necessary so at least if I have another day like Tuesday, DS will be looked after. That's all I care about really. He's just started taking steps on his own and is so close to properly walking. It would be unfair for him to not get the usual encouragement and play because I am Ill.

eallison88 · 26/02/2015 12:35

Oh sarky I am glad that your partners work are being understanding. I have so much awe for women doing this a second (or third Or fourth....) time. I genuinely don't know how you do it with responsibilities other than looking after yourself. Hope bucastem continues to keep control of things for you.

trixy04 · 26/02/2015 13:26

sarky, i'm on bucastem too, its not too bad, every now and again they wander from where i've put them in my mouth and do taste a bit foul, but persevere!!

Meerka · 26/02/2015 18:06

ealli i know for certain I'm not doing a 3rd .... at long last, next week I get the first appointment to be sterilized =)

Hope you're not doing too badly today everyone. Another day nearly over ...

eallison88 · 26/02/2015 20:46

I hate evenings. Plus side; managed a jacket potato for tea. It's frustrating that I just don't have the energy to cook for myself, so rely on hubby to cook, which means my substantial food (not sure I would've called a plain jacket spud substantial a few weeks ago!) is at the worst part of the day. I feel I need to fix this somehow, but I don't really know how!

But yes, another day nearly done!

LucindaE · 27/02/2015 10:26

Some good news form sarky and eallsion than...it's a good thing Walter Raleigh impotted the potato...Meerka after the way you suffered throughout, twice - it's no wonder you want your 'tubes done'.
I hope everyone is coping today.

hi all - sorry to all those suffering badly at the moment- seems to unfortunately be quite a few of you again :(
trixy your food list was just like mine with hg! also add chicken and mushroom pasties (cold) and mcd choc milkshake (or choc nesquik), fillet of fish, haribos and sips of elderflower presse.
sarky buccastem always worked quite well for me too- think if nothing else it is a distraction keeping it between the lip and gum without losing it!!
eallison definitely day by day with horrors of hg but like you say another day done.
I definitely won't go through it again- twice was enough (only have 3 children as second pg twins!!). had to seriously think whether to even put myself through it a second time so absolutely hats off to anyone who could consider it again at any point.
hi to all newbies and waves to lucinda, meerka, durham and everyone xx

elizabethsmum · 27/02/2015 11:08

sorry - eallison food list but trixy yes weird about chicken- not sure why??!- I put it down to the pastry- almost like the stomach is needing stodge to keep everything in!! Also had ketchup with everything! !

eallison88 · 27/02/2015 11:20

Maybe in a few years I might consider this again, but right now the next few months terrify me and the thought of knowingly doing this again makes me feel (even more) sick!

I haven't left the house at all this week, apart from Mondays jaunt to the hospital. I feel like I should go out and do something.

Waiting for doctor to call to sort out another ondansetron prescription. How ridiculous that it can't be put on repeat cos it's so expensive. So I have to go and see a doctor every week for more... I thought I'd see if a phone consultation would work this week, but it's yet another different GP. And the hospital upped my dose and I don't know if my GP surgery know that, so it might be interesting!

Chicken and mushroom pasties sound good, night give that a go!

elizabethsmum · 27/02/2015 12:49

eallison don't feel guilty about not going anywhere or doing anything- rest is good!! I once threw a hissy fit at dh when he ate one of my pasties and made him go and buy some more!! seem to stay down easier if eaten cold x

eallison88 · 27/02/2015 13:32

My mouth tastes pretty horrid most of the time... anyone got any suggestions for dealing with that? Mint is bad
Anyone know if there's a kids non-minty mouthwash? Sent hubby dearest on a hunt for fruit glacier things, I have a recollection of those being strongly flavoured.

I've been chased for rsvps to 2 weddings in the last 24 hours. One in April and one in June. I've said yes to both, but totally unconvinced; I'm not good at evenings! Anyone been to weddings whilst suffering? Any suggestions?!

elizabethsmum · 27/02/2015 13:59

home bargains sell kids peppa pig and thomas strawberry toothpastes and am pretty sure I have seen some moshi monster mouthwash there which is probably not mint flavoured?? hopefully you may be ok for the june wedding? ? I had to miss out on a couple of hen weekends when I was really bad. my sister got married in new york when I was 19 weeks with the twins- thank the lord I had started to feel much better a couple of weeks before as I was dreading it. I had to organise her hen night from my hospital bed but at least made it there in the end (was 14 weeks and dosed up to the eyeballs). I would say see how you go but maybe just go for the minimum length of time possible- if they are at a hotel any chance of you booking a room there to excuse yourself to I necessary. maybe best to be discretely honest with the bride as easier if a couple of people know ime. take plenty of snacks to keep you going. if at church then reception- don't hang about in between- go straight there and then I staying over a bit of chance for some rest in between xx

eallison88 · 27/02/2015 15:18

One of the weddings is far enough away to justify a hotel, the June wedding, so we've booked a room. It's a few minutes walk from the wedding venue. Wedding at 3pm, good at 5 pm, so I think it's looking as good as it can. The April one is close enough not to justify a hotel, nut still a 45 min drive. Problem is, its at a very expensive hotel and we just can't afford to book a room. I think we'll just have to speak to the bride before hand and explain. And maybe see if the reception hotel will provide me with ice pops!

Hellohellohowareyou · 27/02/2015 19:36

Good evening! Hope everyone is ok, well as ok as possible!

I went back to the docs yesterday and they have put me on 4 hour days at work until I go on mat leave. It was my docs idea, in fact she was pretty insistent. I think it was me tearing my osephagus this week that really made her make that decision. Have to say im relieved as I was worried about how I would cope with more hours. As usual my boss is being lovely, I'm really lucky on that front.

Still being sick each morning but luckily no blood (sorry tmi Grin) so think my poor osephagus is on the mend!

Only another 16.5 weeks til my ELCS eek!

eallison88 · 27/02/2015 21:27

That's brilliant hello. Work is my biggest worry at the moment. I really want to go back and start working again, but I'm worried about the hours and the nature of my job. I'm also worried about the nature of me; I'm likely to try to promise more than I should be trying to deliver. I'm really worried that I'm only 10 weeks, so we're talking 30 or so weeks and I can't not work! The only reason I'm coping this week is the fact that I'm sleeping (apart from waking to eat) til 12/1pm and then doing very little all afternoon before lying on the sofa feeling myself going downhill and counting down the hours til it's acceptable to go to bed! Not completely sure how I'm gonna manage work!

eallison88 · 27/02/2015 23:00

Fecking wind!

Emsymarie · 28/02/2015 08:36

Hi all

I just wanted to nip back in after all the amazing support I received from you guys back in the summer to let you know our beautiful twin boys arrived last Saturday! After the horrors of HG at the beginning and the agony of pelvic girdle pain at the end the birth was absolutely wonderful, really quick and completely natural and seeing these gorgeous bubbas makes up for it all in an instant.

Henry Forbes arrived at 5.12am weighing 7lb and Benjamin George followed at 5.26am weighing 7lb 6oz.

I really mean it when I say I don't know how I'd have got through those early weeks without the support of this group, thanks so much :)

Struck down by migriane, so will have my head in a bucket too, but I did want to dash on to say eallsion you must not go back to work - I know it's difficult, but you are too ill - things probbaly will get a lot better in the second tri but you are in no state even to think of it yet.
I hope everyone is reasonably ok - which by normal standards, is very far from ok...
Back as soon as I can. Keyboard in danger of being puked on - and unlike many of the elegant people on here,I am not one of those who can hold it in...

emsymarie beautiful! Congratulations!!

Meerka · 28/02/2015 09:06

ealli the taste thing is typical of HG along with too much saliva. mother Hen suggested barley sweets and they worked for me. Wish you the best of luck with the weddings, extremely tricky!

hello really pleased your doctor and work are being so supportive. Do take it as easy as you can ....

trixy and sarky and everyone, hope you are surviving.

elizabethsmum · 28/02/2015 09:42

emsy such wonderful news! congratulations twin mummy! brilliant weights as well! I was just thinking about you the other day as well! xx

hello sounds like you have a fantastic gp! my work were very sympathetic when hg didn't really shift in first pg and in the end after several failed attempts of going back too soon and then being unwell again we took the approach of get here when you can- amazingly it worked well and I was usually there by 9.30am and the pressure being lifted meant I managed much better.

eallison don't even think about going back at this stage- I would be realistically thinking at least 4 more weeks and that is only if you are much improved at home by then as work is a totally different matter. I learnt through experience and had 10 weeks off in second pg- and then had no problems going back as I was well enough by then. hopefully you will not be plagued with hg all the way through- even though it is hard to believe that now I know.

DurhamRed · 28/02/2015 11:11

Congratulations emysmarie such fabulous news. Such a lovely photo Smile Flowers

Hellohellohowareyou · 28/02/2015 11:27

eallison I was signed off work from 6 weeks til 19 weeks so I wouldn't rush back yet, there is no point going back if you aren't ready you will only make yourself worse. That said I know it's easier said than done and as I've said before my employer has been really great. Oh and yes GP is great too but yesterday was her last day at my surgery she is leaving boooo. I have another equally as nice doctor lined up though!
