How early can you feel movements?

I'm currently 10+1 with my first and several times today I've had a strange feeling, almost like my tummy doing somersaults, but a bit lower down. I tend to feel it when laying in bed or after eating. I wasn't expecting to be able to feel anything yet so is it likely to just be my digestive system?

It might be baby! I felt movements at 13 weeks with my first and I know what it was, I felt the same movements with my second at about 16 and a half weeks, everyone's different but if you feel like it is, it probably is!

Exciting times x

14 weeks here.

cathpip · 01/02/2015 18:43

15 weeks, 13 weeks and 11 weeks here, the unmistakable feeling of gut rot but very low down, even though you haven't eaten anything :)

grocklebox · 01/02/2015 18:45

Considering the foetus is the size of a prune and weighs less rhan a quarter of an ounce, and is still right down in your pelvis, there is really no earthly way you can feel any movement at all. Sorry for bubble bursting, but thats wind.

Onsera3 · 01/02/2015 18:46

14 weeks I remember feeling the butterflies of little one doing flips.

My sister is tiny and had huge babies and she always said she felt it very early.

Apparently you feel it earlier the subsequent pregnancies too.

Exciting!

GoooRooo · 01/02/2015 18:47

I was about 16 weeks with DS when I felt movements. I'm hoping I might recognise the feeling a bit earlier this time.

dillydollydarling · 01/02/2015 18:56

Grocklebox, that's what I thought. But it doesn't feel like wind at all. It literally feels like my uterus doing flips. So hard to explain.

I was around 17 weeks when lying in bed I started to feel this fluttering in the side of my stomach. I was sure it wasn't normal wind/stomach feelings. I was lying perfectly still and it went on for around 5mins.

Over the weeks it got stronger and eventually was proper "kicks". I don't think DH could feel it until around 22 weeks.

It's an amazing feeling, often painful and annoying (especially when your being kicked in the ribs at 3am) but I loved how connected it made me feel to baby Smile

grocklebox · 01/02/2015 18:58

I know it feels like it, but it literally cant be. Quarter of an ounce, think about it.

marshmallowpies · 01/02/2015 19:10

With my second I had the sensation of what felt like popcorn popping in my tummy - that was at about 15 weeks or so. 39 weeks today and it's more like a whale heaving around in there!

callamia · 01/02/2015 19:12

About 13 weeks. It was like someone pressing their thumb very gently inside of me. No flutters, no flips, just gentle pressing.

Teeste · 01/02/2015 19:53

I'm 20+4 with my first, felt the very first tiny gentle movements at around 18+5. He's getting a lot stronger now!

applecore0317 · 01/02/2015 20:04

am 23+4 with my first and started getting popping feelings at just under 18 weeks which got stronger and DH felt it at 20 weeks

BumWad · 01/02/2015 20:45

13/14 weeks with second, like little bubbles popping

m33r · 01/02/2015 20:49

18+1. A kick which both and dh saw on the outside.

Lillygolightly · 01/02/2015 21:02

Felt flutters with first at 12 weeks, stronger flutters at 13/14 weeks and by 16 weeks could be felt properly and from the outside...DH felt them too! I'm very slim so not sure if this is the reason why things could be felt so early. Didn't experience proper kicks until 17/18 weeks.

With DD2 placenta was anterior and so felt flutters much later, not till around 15 weeks, kicks around same time as DD1 @ 17/18 weeks.

10 weeks is very early but I would never discount anyone who says they could...when you feel baby is dependant on the position of the baby and the placenta and some babies are more active than others. Sometimes you feel it and you just know...so if you think you do I am sure you can...its lovely and will only get stronger. You've obviously got a wriggly little bean already :)

grocklebox · 01/02/2015 21:50

It doesnt matter how active it is! Its practically weightless, and tiny and surrounded by fluid. It cannot be felt.

Just because you feel a sensation you think is the foetus, that doesnt mean it actually is. Especially when its not physically possible.

SergeantJarhead · 01/02/2015 22:47

Grocklebox - This is meant in a very non-confrontational way but is it such a bad thing if pregnant women feel their babies moving/kicking even if you believe it is physically impossible due to how small they are? Just be happy for people yeah? Have a cuppa, relax a bit.

grocklebox · 01/02/2015 23:08

Why is it a bad thing to encourage people to believe things that are not true? Does that really have to be explained?

KatherinaMinola · 01/02/2015 23:11

grockle it's quite possible OP's dates are out and she's further along than she thinks. I felt the fluttering at 14 weeks and then kicks at 19 weeks on the nose.

justabigdisco · 01/02/2015 23:12

11/12 weeks with my second (am 12 now and my uterus is definitely out if my pelvis - can feel it), about 17/18 with my first.

17w first time around
13w this time
Oddly shaped uterus though, so less room for the babe to move in.

I'm with Grockle here, 10w is too early. Ovulation pain is usually peritoneal irritation rather than the actual egg being felt.

hippymama1 · 02/02/2015 09:46

I felt baby for the first time at about 17 weeks... He's on the move now though!

rosedavo · 02/02/2015 18:12

Started feeling mine at about 17weeks. Im now 20 and can feel it alot, pattern is i feel it at night in bed or after ive eaten alot! Its hard to explain what its like...if you push your tongue against your cheek its like that!
