Please tell me I'm not alone in this! I cannot for the life of me get rid of my heartburn. It happens at the same time every night, just before I go to bed. When I lay down it gets worse so I end up sitting up for ages trying to wait for it to settle. Is there any quick fix for this? I'm at my wits end Shock

go to see your GP and get some Omeprazole - completely safe and will cure your symptoms in about 2-3 days. I suffer badly with indigestion when pregnant and it's worked for me twice.

NoNoNoooooo · 28/01/2015 23:08

I second omaperazole! Will totally cure it. You don't need to suffer.

flashystars · 28/01/2015 23:18

You need to get your bp checked as this can be a sign of pre-eclampsia

Longdistance · 28/01/2015 23:19

I had this with dd2. Turns out she had masses of hair. I'm sure I was coughing up fur balls at the time.

My docs were rubbish. I got Gaviscon, but preferred was addicted to the tablets.

ArabellaStrange · 28/01/2015 23:22

Or Gaviscon, in the mean time, I used to chug the stuff when pregnant with my dd.
And expect a lot of dark hair on your newborn!

westcountrywoman · 28/01/2015 23:28

Rennies or any of the chalky minty or fruity tablets (they taste a bit like refreshers sweets). Ranitidine tablets from Drs if they don't help.

CanISayOfHerFace · 28/01/2015 23:33

I had this in a big way for the majority of my pregnancy. Gaviscon took the edge off but it was still pretty bad.

It's not related to hair though... My baby was a baldy and still is.

Blueblueblueblue · 28/01/2015 23:42

You do have my sympathies, it's awful.

I found that thick milkshakes (like the Mars one) helped. They had to be really cold though. Gaviscon helped too but it made my sickness worse and I personally hated the tablets though lots of people swear by them.

Eat little and often and avoid anything too spicy or gasy.

My babies were extremely bald as well though!

SaggyAndLucy · 28/01/2015 23:58

Try a spoonful or two of honey. It works! :-)

Violettadoesthekondo · 29/01/2015 00:00

Stop eating wheat/gluten. Worked for me and my friend.

Casmama · 29/01/2015 00:00

Omeprazole- works like a dream.

Violettadoesthekondo · 29/01/2015 00:01

As soon as I stopped having wheat it was better. Only got it back if I gave into cake

BigCatFace · 29/01/2015 01:17

Omeprazole. Don't suffer with this! My last straw was aspirsting on acid in my sleep and choking, it was terrifying. It's safe in pregnancy and a lifesaver.

rubberducky87 · 29/01/2015 06:30

Thank you so much for the recommendations! I will start trying some of these straight away.

I've never heard of heartburn being linked with a baby having hair! That's really interesting.

Mouthfulofquiz · 29/01/2015 06:47

Go to the doctors! I had ranitidine 300mg twice daily and it stopped it almost straight away. My sons had a lot of hair at birth!

Violettadoesthekondo · 29/01/2015 06:55

Yes mine all had lots of hair coincidentally but I'm not convinced there's a real link. My own take is that pregnancy can make worse any weaknesses that already exist with in the body. I had very low iron/blood pressure generally but with pregnancy my iron levels dropped through the floor. I think if a body has a low level intolerance to wheat (or all gluten) it can get worse during pregnancy too. For me heartburn was a reaction to wheat.

hazel88 · 29/01/2015 08:17

I've had terrible heartburn over the last few months, to the point of being sick several times. I've not wanted to take any medication and have opted for home remedies instead. I've found that sipping cold milk has helped a lot as well as sleeping propped up a little. It always seems to be worse at night so I take a glass to bed then when I go to the loo during the night I nip downstairs to get another.

I've found anything sets it off but garlic, onions and chocolate are the worst! Also bending down brings up the acid too Sad

I'm hoping DD is born with a tonne of hair but I doubt it, she'll probably be bald as a coot Grin

Hope you feel better soon, it's miserable! Thanks

supersupersupershock · 29/01/2015 08:20

I'm only 15 weeks and it was so bad last night that I threw up. Scared to eat this morning.

Did a load of research last night and milk seems to do the trick for a lot of people. I had some last night and propped my head up high with lots of pillows and got some good rest

rubberducky87 · 29/01/2015 08:40

Yeah milk helped a lot at the start but now it's just not doing anything :( I'm sure some of these things will help though. Bring on tonight! Lol

It really is miserable but hey ho, not long left to go!

I was told to lie on my right side at night and it definitely helps a bit. I had bad heartburn on dd2 and she was bald til she was 2!

Pico2 · 29/01/2015 09:08

I took ranatadine and gaviscon. I went from it making me puke to being tolerable.

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 29/01/2015 09:16

I had it really bad towards the end of my pregnancy, my mother in law told me to try eating gherkins...... It worked! The acids must have cancelled each other out!

Meplusyouequals4 · 29/01/2015 10:51

I've suffered with heartburn since about 20 weeks just I'm 38+4

a milky drink before bed always helps me. I have either hot milk with a little honey or a horlicks.

what time do you have your evening meal? and how long after are you going bed? Try leaving a 3 hour gap between eating and going to bed if you do need to eat then have something that's easy to digest.

Sparklingbrook · 29/01/2015 10:53

I suffered terribly and used to glug Gaviscon from the bottle. I had two completely baldy babies. Grin

yummymango · 29/01/2015 10:55

gaviscon and ranitidine
