Movements checked but still worried

Hi all,
I'm 34 weeks and for the last 2 days baby has hardly moved compared to normal. I went in yesterday and was monitored and heart beat was fine but she only moved twice while being monitored but they were happy which calmed s a bit. All day today she has barely moved again, so I went back in and explained the situation again was monitored again and heartbeat was fine but again she only moved once during the monitoring. They seemed happy that all was fine but normally she is so active and even when she has a quiet day, she will make up for it the following day. We have come home but I am strating to worry again but not sure what else they will/can do if I go back in. They did tell me to go back tomorrow if she is still not moving as much but I feel like I should be doing something now. Does anyone have experience of what else they can do or what I can insist on having done? I am quite happy to stamp my feet if necessary, I just dont know what to expect or insist on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. xx

If you have been checked it is very likely everything is fine. However I was in your situation I would go back as mothers instincts have saved babies life's. If you don't feel totally confident that baby is ok go back and back sure you talk to a doctor as well as a midwife.!

TittyBojangles · 16/01/2015 18:12

If you have repeated episodes of reduced movements but a reassuring ctg then they can do an ultrasound to check the growth, amniotic fluid and blood flow through the cord. Ultimately I guess the decision will be whether it is safest for baby to be kept inside vs being born early. Definitely keep going back in if you and still worried.

SoonToBeSix · 16/01/2015 18:13

Don't know where that ! came from.

bambi07 · 16/01/2015 18:16

Thank you, I am worried and not its not common for me to worry too much so think I will go back and insist a bit. Thank you again. x

You might know this already but if you want to feel baby move right now or anytime drink some iced water, fizzy pop, ice cream

That will get her moving.

Is it possible she has changed position and so you aren't feeling her as much?

ladyflower23 · 16/01/2015 18:21

I have not experienced this but in your situation would go back in and insist on a scan so they can properly check baby etc out and maybe find explanation such a baby's position. Might also help to put your mind at rest if you see baby. Let us know how you get on x

blackwidow74 · 16/01/2015 19:10

My little one can move without me feeling her ... I rest something on my bump for a bit and watch and can see her wriggling around under it and will get a good hefty kick or two but surprised at how I don't feel movements but see that she is ... although you felt her move once or twice while hooked up to trace it may have picked up movements you didn't feel ... perhaps ask if that is the case ... If it's not showing then defo push for scan!!

bambi07 · 16/01/2015 19:32

I have spoken to the midwife that monitored and she explained that the monitor did show that the baby made a few movements and the heart rate reacted as expected and it has made me feel a little better. However the paranoid side of me is comparing the monitoring I had at around 28 weeks which showed more obvious changes in heart rhythm and I pressed the button about 30 times. I could clearly see the changes on the one from 28 weeks, it rose and dropped dramatically, and only really saw a constant rythm on the one today. I am going to go back tomorrow if I have any worries at all, I have been assured everything is fine for now and I will try to take my mind off it a bit but as of tomorrow if there are no changes I will be insisting on further testing. It is the fact that she isnt responding to things as normal or that she isnt as active as normal even if they say that it looks normal for them, it isnt normal for my little wriggler. Thank you again. x

Do whatever you need to in order to put your mind at rest. Trust your instincts and who cares how many times you go back. This is your baby and if you have concerns, you have every right to get them checked out. Take care and do let us know how you get on xxx

bambi07 · 17/01/2015 08:38

Thank you babyoven, after another quiet night and morning I am heading back in. The MW yesterday did explain that she could be in a different position but I am worried that she isnt even hiccuping like she normally does, so no wasting time today I'm going back. Thank you all again. xx

Hi I've just seen your thread and have caught up on the comments. Let us know how you get on please! I'm thinking of doing the same, I feel as though movements have been slightly less frequent or just not at strong since Thursday night. But I have still been feeling movements, and have done this morning. So I'm going to monitor today and if it's the same I think I'll perhaps be calling the midwife (which I've never done before so very scared!) x

RL20 · 17/01/2015 10:27

Also, how does it work? How quickly do they get you in? X

sleepybuthappy · 17/01/2015 10:38

Had the same situation with mine at around the same stage and got an ultrasound to check that I had enough amniotic fluid - apparently if you don't have enough they can't move as much. Might be worth asking or an ultrasound?

bambi07 · 17/01/2015 14:04

Hi all been checked and scanned and everything seems fine, I feel much better having been back and can relax a little more, plenty of fluid. They have said that movements were quite minimal on the monitor again and to go back again tomorrow for further monitoring if she has not improved any but her heartbeat was as strong as normal and when she did a little shuffle the heart reacted as it should. I will be taking it seriously throughout the rest of today and tomorrow and will definately be going back in if I dont feel she is moving as she normally does. It was also suggested almost anecdotedly that she may be gearing up for early labour as she is engaged and I am experiencing a higher frequency and strength of BH and pelvis pains. Although I feel it wasnt mentioned seriously, I have come home and ensured my bags are ready and everything is being washed that needs to be washed, just incase!

RL20 Do go in if you you are worried at all, it does make you feel better and I went straight in all three times, rang my MW first time and she had a listen and did some checks. Phoned the Pregnancy day care unit the second time and went right in for monitoring and used the 24 hour number in my notes the third time (today) for a scan and further monitoring. I did have to push a bit for the scan however and they were a little reluctant but I was getting really anxious by then.
Hope you are well and that you are seen quickly if you chose to call. xx

Thank you again for the replies, it helps me to think rationally when I come here and read what others have to say, it's incredible how you start to doubt yourself and your desicions when sat at home doing nothing. Grin xx

Glad everything is ok! Keep us updated if you do have another check up x

blackwidow74 · 18/01/2015 13:29

Got myself monitored yesterday after a very quiet day on the bump front ... nothing I did worked and I ended up in bits so hubby marched me in ... have attached a piccie of my trace ... along the bottom is each movement the trace picked up on ... I felt 2!!!!! Seems she is able to curl up into such a position and still move but make no contact with the walls of my womb!!

The relief is mega ... as someone with terrible anxiety I was told not to leave it so long next time ... The minute I feel things are out of my control to phone up and arrange to go in for a trace ... so to anyone I say if you are stressing make that call ... my BP was through the roof having left it 6 hours before calling ... and high BP is no good for us or our precious cargos x

Movements checked but still worried
leanne963 · 18/01/2015 14:11

Wondering if someone can give advice? I am only 22 weeks so have been feeling movements only for a few weeks, usually she is quite quiet and its been hard to track her movements, somedays she is quiet and doesn't do hardly anything and then some days she moves after i eat and when i get into bed. Today i have noticed she has been moving constantly, i know that 'All changes in movements should be monitored' but i didnt know whether as she is getting bigger and stronger the movements are just getting bigger and stronger?! I just don't know what is 'normal' as i haven't been having movements long enough to know a pattern! When would be the time that i should call my midwife/triage?

blackwidow74 · 18/01/2015 15:21

At your stage monitoring is nigh on impossible but be assured that you are feeling more movement as baby is getting bigger faster ... its not so much that baby is moving more. By all means get midwife to do a heartbeat check but that's much all they can do so early. The midwife who did my trace said she was suprised by how my trace went as at 26+3 they are still small enough to escape the monitor and hide away making it impossible to get a constant ... at 22 weeks baby is far too small but don't put off calling midwife or gp if worried :)

blackwidow74 · 18/01/2015 15:22

They also say not to worry too much until 26/28 weeks re movement

leanne963 · 18/01/2015 15:28

Thank you Blackwidow the rational side of my brain is telling me exactly what you said, that baby is still small and monitoring isn't until the end of the 2nd/beginning of the 3rd trimester. But the anxiety ridden side of my brain is like 'argh panic'. Deep down i think she just had a bit of a growth spurt ha!

IKYTWTLYA · 18/01/2015 15:33

Hi Bambi - was it you with PKU? If so, I think we chatted when I had a different username.

Glad to see everything's ok. Try to relax. x

bambi07 · 18/01/2015 15:35

Hi Blackwidow I'm glad you got checked and everything was good and Im jealous that you got to keep your trace, I want to have mine so I could be more familiar with what it is they show and then maybe have more confidence that all is ok.

I would back up what you say and would definitely go back in sooner next time, everyone I saw said exactly that but finally after a very wiggly day, I am much happier that she is fine. Hope everyone else is ok and feeling much better regarding little ones movements. xx

Hi IKYTWTLYA yes it is me with PKU, I havent posted much since then so it's nice to be in contact with someone I spoke to back then. I don't know who you were at the time, obviously down to name change but hope you are well and things are good for you.

The PKU has been hard work but it has been worth it. Were you the person I spoke to with PKU too? xx
