I'm 29 weeks & since about 23 weeks the baby has had his own little routine for kicking and has stuck to it vigilantly up until 4 days ago .
He would wake up and kick for an hour at 10am & then throughout the day I would feel the odd kick/movement & then he would wake for an hour again at 11pm every night you could set your watch by him .
I still feel him moving & if I haven't for a while I just need to give him a quick prod and he will kick back he just doesn't seem to have his routine anymore Confused

I'm not sure wether I should be concerned or not because I can still feel him move every so often .

Do you think it's because he's bigger now and has less room to move?

If you have any concerns you should speak to your midwife and I'd recommend this, but it does sound as though he's fine. I'm jealous - I used to love feeling the baby kicking!

dyslexicdespot · 11/01/2015 20:45

I'm sure everything is fine, but contact your midwife if you are concerned.

Good luck!

squizita · 11/01/2015 21:03

After 28 weeks, contact a midwife or maternity ward if there is a reduction in movement.
A colleague had this and it can be a sign of early labour (which they can slow if caught thankfully).
So DO give them a call. Most likely just for reassurance.

annaban · 11/01/2015 21:09

Please google 'count the kicks' and take a look at some of their advice (there may be threads on it too)

If in any kind of doubt, I reckon a quick call to the midwife. I'm sure all will be fine, but even if it serves to reassure you it will be worthwhile.

Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy

X

In one of my many baby books it says to lay down on your left side & relax for 2 hours if you don't feel movements to then contact midwife/doctor etc

OrangesJuicyOranges · 11/01/2015 21:12

I noticed less movements about that time, now I'm 37 weeks she's kicking all the bloody time and they're massive kicks. Bbt do get yourself checked out just to reassure you as it might well be a completely normal change as the baby adjusts to growing bigger but it could be a problem. They're totally happy about checking you for any reason.

hodgepodgepanda · 11/01/2015 21:14

It could be that he is lacking in space as I still have a really small bump , I'll give my Midwife a call in the morning

Thanks

I'd call the labour ward tonight, don't go to sleep with reduced movements.

AuntieMaggie · 11/01/2015 21:17

The advice I was given when I was pregnant was to drink a large glass of cold water and lie on my left side for 30 mins if still concerned call the assessment unit.

Pelvic floor exercises always used to get ds moving though!

tiggy2610 · 11/01/2015 21:21

They do get less space in there but you should still feel regularly movement (this is what my midwife chants at me everytime I go to see her). I've been advised by my midwife and consultant that there is no magic number of kicks we should feel in a given time frame, we just get to know our babies and when they're not following their usual pattern. I've been at the local Maternity Assessment Unit twice in the past 7 weeks as his movements changed completely, the last time being a few weeks ago. I was the same as you, I could still feel movement but it felt different, they asked me to come in so they could give him a quick check up. Turned out he had moved position which is why the movements had changed, but both the midwife and the doctors said I had done absolutely the right thing and not to hesitate to give them a call again if I was worried, even if it was the next day. I was worried they would think I was just being a nervous first time mum but they were lovely Smile

hodgepodgepanda · 11/01/2015 21:22

I can get him moving as all I have to do is prod my belly and he will kick back which is why I'm not so sure iyswim

PizzaMama · 11/01/2015 21:22

A big baby/lack of space us a very common misconception. If you are worried, please contact a hospital asap. I phoned with reduced movements at 32 weeks. They told me to lie down and have a cold drink. I insisted on coming in and my little girl was born 1 hour later via emcs

tiggy2610 · 11/01/2015 21:32

You can always just give them a ring and ask their advice, explain that baby is still moving but routine seems to have changed (which is exactly what I had). They'll be the best people to advice. I'm sure everything is fine but you're definitely not wasting their time just giving them a quick call

tiggy2610 · 11/01/2015 21:32

*best people to OFFER advice. Swollen fingers strike again...

Weathervain · 11/01/2015 21:33

From what I remember if a baby is oxygen starved he will kick frantically and then the kicks will slow down as he gets more oxygen deprived. But that is only related to oxygen starvation and there may be many other reasons for decreased kicking which doesn't involve the above.

Most it am sure are quite innocent though it's good you can get a response. I would get in touch with your midwife though if they decrease further or don't return to normal.

PizzaMama · 11/01/2015 21:34

Google Count the Kicks

less 'Kicks' , should i be concerned ???
squizita · 11/01/2015 21:37

What Tiggy says YY 100%

I found standing up and anxiety can make you not feel kicks thar are happening later in pregnancy iyswim. Movement should still ne regular but may feel different or muffled. But must still be there! I would have a small cold drink, lie down and breathe deeply. Luckily I always got movement with this method within 30 min which was in line with my normal movement pattern ( and count the kicks DO endorse this ) - if not I'd call the midwife or labour ward and ask to go in.

ChazzerChaser · 11/01/2015 21:41

Ring the hospital and seek medical advice. It's what they're there for.

weeblueberry · 11/01/2015 21:46

Please call triage tonight and don't wait until tomorrow. I know what you're saying about his response to stimuli but that's not enough - they should still be moving of their own accord plenty at this stage...

AnythingNotEverything · 11/01/2015 21:47

I don't think reactive kicks "count" OP. The latest advice will be on the count The Kicks site. Do check there, and call the hospital if you are at all concerned.

Do not take any comfort from a home Doppler

squizita · 11/01/2015 22:10

Anything CTK call them "prompts" and movement caused by them does count. Prompts are - cold drink, lying/sitting, rubbing belly etc.
However once prompted the movements should go back to normal. For example once I had a scare on a very hot day, working outside. I went indoors and used ice water/lying down to prompt a kick - after which kicks and swooshes happened as usual again. So that was ok.
If the baby only moves when prompted that is reduced movement.
In which case - as it seems to be here for the OP - call the labour ward for advice.

hodgepodgepanda · 11/01/2015 22:33

Sorry not ignoring you all , just trying to get hold of someone to watch my Ds so I can go to the hospital

OP posts:
AnythingNotEverything · 11/01/2015 22:51

Squizita it sounds like the reaction to a nudge doesn't count then, unless movements go back to normal afterwards. OP is only feeling reactions to nudges, which in your definition, and mine, is reduced movements.

OP everything is most likely fine, but it's vital you check these things out at every instance. Let us know how you get on.

hodgepodgepanda · 11/01/2015 23:35

He has done a couple of flips & kicks thanks to my incessant prodding & drinking ice water & now seems to be wide awake .
My Dp can't get home from work til around 4 so I'll give the Hospital a ring first thing

BuntyCollocks · 12/01/2015 09:10

OH MY GOD.

I wish people would stop peddling this 'they have less room' nonsense.

This is how tragedies happen.

Any reduced movements get them checked out!
