I had low lying placenta at 20w and was told I needed another scan at 36w. By then the sonographer said it had migrated back up and all was fine. At 39w had some bleeding and went into hospital - was told it was just some unexplained pregnancy bleeding and nothing to worry about. At 40 weeks more bleeding - again diagnosed as unexplained but they decided it would be better to induce. When the mw went to break my waters she realised that the membranes felt a bit spongy and she was probably feeling a placenta.... Emcs followed pretty quickly but all was fine.

apparently the placenta can appear up in a scan but still have a bit, like a tail, low near the cervix. This can only be confirmed with an internal scan.

Recovery was fine :)

And although my case went undiagnosed till the end, the bleeding was really minor and not a huge concern

I had grade 4 placenta previa with my DD2. It was spotted on 20 week scan and didn't move at all. I had a planned c-section at 38 weeks and was absolutely terrified about the whole thing as read so many bad things about it on here. Turns out I worried for absolutely no reason, I lost 500ml of blood during the section (I had 4 pints and the cell salvage machine on standby) which is less than I lost through my first natural birth and the placenta was out within a couple of minutes, I know it sounds strange but the whole c-section was a wonderful experience and I just wish I had not worried so much. I did have a small bleed at 36 weeks and had to stay in for one night but the week later the midwife told me this was apparently from thrush rather than a bleed because of placenta previa. My daughter was also breached (something that was never spotted on any scans). So please try not to worry too much and if you have any questions please feel free to ask me as I wish I would've read a positive post when I was looking rather than all the horrible ones.

Hi thanks for that. im glad your experience was ok and not.what you read about. im waiting on midwife calling me to let me no where exactly my placenta is as when she read my notes she said there isn't much info so it may be that its laying low and nothing to worry about. I hope so! thanks again and will update when the kidwife eventually gets back! Smile

Annbag sorry for the delay in coming back. When I had DD1 we specifically asked if a recurrence was likely (as it would have affected our decision whether or not to go ahead with DC3) and we were told that having had PP once, there was no increased likeliness of having it again.

After getting PP with DD2, my consultant warned me that having had it twice, we had to assume I would get it again.

With DC1 I had a manual removal of placenta. I know one of the consultants was doing a study into whether a manual removal of placenta (which can cause internal scarring, preventing a future placenta from attaching in the same place) can lead to a subsequent case of placenta praevia. I don't know the results of the study.

Thank you Smile

im so anxious and worried. this is DC3 but both were late and spontaneous natural births so this is very new and unpredictable for me Sad

i had injections at 2am this morning and due another at 2am again tomorrow morning. (didnt expect them to sting so much Sad )

my bleeding isnt heavy at all but its going from red to pink to brown to red and brown (sorry tmi)) and I am quite uncomfortable lower back and tummy!

can anyone tell me because ive had a bleed even though its small is it more likely I have baby early?

I am so bored and missing my two little muffins at home Dc1 &Dc2 Sad

Thanks

Dy those injections are a pig aren't they? At least you only need 2!

You won't necessarily have the baby early due to the bleed. I'm not sure how far on you are? With DD1, I just had continuous low grade bleeding. The red is fresh, the brown is a bit older, but just clearing out. I was kept in as the bleeds just kept coming and going. They wanted me to have a section at 38 weeks (which was the norm then, now it is 39 weeks) but that was my birthday and I negotiated! Went on to have DD1 on the planned date.

DD2 was a different matter, they seemed much more willing to send me back home. I had a very big bleed resulting in an EMCS.

dy14 · 20/04/2015 07:24

They are very stingy!Shock

I have been here since Wednesday and they would like to keep me in untill baby arrives they have told me 36weeks they will do section if they dont need to rush me there before. I am 34 + 2. I keep bleeding as well not hugely but often and being monitored. I am so scared :(. How was your sections? ThanksSmile

Not wishing to start a new thread, but to add a note of hope to anyone looking for more info - my placenta was low anterior and overlapping the cervix at 20 weeks. I was booked in for a scan at 32 weeks but advised with overlap there was only around a 10% chance of it moving enough to avoid the planned C section. I spent 12 weeks psyching myself up to be told I'd need the CS and watching for bleeding.

At 32 week scan the placenta had shifted up just enough that they are sure it will be well out of the way by 36. They double checked with an internal scan too to be totally sure there was no overlap. So - someone has to be that 10% whose placenta does move!! Don't lose hope. But do be informed - better to be mentally prepared whatever the outcome!

Of course at the scan they also decided there's not quite enough amniotic fluid... so I've got to go back next week for another scan anyway. Just as well we had the extra scan :P This baby growing lark is all fun and games.
