lady thank you so much for that information regarding pain relief. It's so clear and will really help in my decision making.
I can't believe you are still planning window cleaning, etc - that's amazing, I was floored just by a house move and firmly believe that a pregnancy is a great excuse to bring in helpers :-)

fluffy so pleased about your scan. It is lovely to see the baby dancing around and to get excited. I was amazed at how much can be discerned already at this stage - I had a lovely photo to take away with my baby in full profile - you could see the little nose/ mouth fingers... as you say - magical

pixie sorry you're having a rubbish day. I still have some nausea too (at nearly 16 weeks) already in my case its always evening sickness rather than morning. I am having back ache today and some stretching cramps too so might look to make an earlier exit from the office today to try and do some exercise or (more likely) have a date with the sofa.

ladybunnikins · 05/03/2015 10:25

Fluffy that's great news about your scan, I was getting a bit worried! It's amazing to see the difference between the early scan, which is just a bean with a heartbeat, and the 12 week scan where it actually looks like a little wriggling baby! Did the consultant appointment go OK? I had a consultant appt by accident (2 failed IVFs but this is a natural conception) and so they discharged me but they did mention that they like to induce IVF pregnancies at 40 weeks, but I know this isn't the case everywhere.
Pixie I hope the nausea is improving. I did find that eating little and often helped. Is it heartburn? I think I bought my first gaviscon tablets quite early on (I hate the gaviscon liquid but the tablets are nice).
Pearl maybe I should change 'window cleaning' to 'employ a window cleaner!' Not long until your appointment now, hope they can give you some clear information.
Bushy good luck for the scan tomorrow.
My baby has turned head down again, the midwife thinks I'm weird for being disappointed! I spoke to her about my hospital choice though, after getting a message from a theatre nurse who now does agency work. She has worked at the maternity unit where I was booked and said it was a hell hole and I should avoid it like the plague. The hospital doesn't offer tours and has no decent information online. I thought the midwife would be able to reassure me but she just said that the hospital is over-booked with deliveries at the moment (and recommended a home birth where I would have 2 midwives). Her student midwife was there and said she'd heard good things about another hospital which is only an extra 10-15 minutes drive away, they have a 20 minute video on their website showing the delivery suite etc and it looks good, they also offer free active birth classes so I've decided to book there instead. (My work hospital is 1hr away and I think it would just be too weird to go back to work with people who have seen me naked!)

greatbigbushybeard · 05/03/2015 22:31

Thanks lady, am bricking it a bit! Dh asked me whether we are finding out the sex and I just said I don't mind and I'm not worried about that, I just want it to be ok! He agreed.

Hope you're all well.

pearlcrystal · 06/03/2015 07:54

Thinking of you bushy. I am sure all will be well.
Keep in touch.

lady your local hospital sounds awful! glad you've found somewhere a bit better not too far away. Totally understand that you wouldn't want to be in your workplace, although I am sure it must happen on occasion? OH splits his time between 2 hospitals and I am likely to be in one of them, but as he doesn't work in obstetrics it's much less an issue for me, although there is a good chance that I might encounter some of the people who will be involved socially, which might be somewhat awkward :-)

Pixie001 · 06/03/2015 10:01

Hope today goes well bushy...do you have long to wait? Let us know how goes. X

RevoltingPeasant · 06/03/2015 13:00

Bumping for bushy news - everything crossed like mad!!

lady I totally get you. I made the decision to home birth in part after a colleague described being left to labour for five hours in a corridor wearing a gown that flapped open at the back and getting "helpful" comments from the porters who passed by Shock in my case, there were not many alternatives, living in ruralish Devon. Dreadful to feel you can't trust your local place.

Pixie001 · 06/03/2015 18:03

Bushy????

FeatherFeather11 · 06/03/2015 19:46

Checking in for news from bushy. Hope everything is ok xxx

Hello ladies, no need to worry, everything was fine!!! Phew!! Did everything to the letter & drank the litre an hour beforehand etc; the sonographer then said my bladder was huge & squashing the baby so told me to empty it, such relief!! A double relief to see little bushy in there before I did. Baby was doing all sorts of movement, looked like it was doing a yogic, bicycling pose!! All healthy but despite lots of wiggling, poking, being sent for 5 min walk and being told to jump up & down ( which I was a but wary of) it didn't turn so she could do all 3 spinal views so I'll be invited back in 2 weeks.

And we did find out the gender, it's a girl!! We went out last night for a meal to celebrate, relief all round.

Good lord, that sounds horrific what happened to your friend. I can totally see why you chose home birth.

We are going to make pancakes this morning so I better get in gear to pop to shop for ingredients.

pearlcrystal · 07/03/2015 10:23

Yeah bushy what a relief - I have been checking back every few hours for updates. Congratulations on your lively and lovely little girl!!

Scans are magic!

By the way I only ever drink a glass of water (quarter litre) before my appointments and my bladder has never not been full enough ( once I was told to empty it even), so I think the liter is a bit of an exaggeration and just leaves you in agony.

RevoltingPeasant · 07/03/2015 14:10

Oh Bushy, congrats! I too had started to fear bad news so am very glad and relieved for you :)

Amazing that you will have a baby daughter in just a few weeks' time. Dodo was very lively in the womb as well, but is now quite a chilled out baby, just very keen on windmilling her arms when she's lying in her Moses basket.

Also, great that you get another scan! More chance to see unborn DD.

Just think, you are now probably a little over halfway through, so you only have to go through the same amount of pregnancy you already have, and then your whole ttc journey and all the ups and downs will be over..... And a new one beginning!

ladybunnikins · 07/03/2015 17:00

Wonderful news, Bushy!
I have spent today doing an NCT class, the people all seem nice, which is the most important thing Wink, and DH found it useful.

FeatherFeather11 · 08/03/2015 00:00

Ahhh, great news bushy xxxx

will check in properly soon - I promise! Cleo is a proper handful at the moment and I am struggling a bit. Nothing serious, just trying to get the hang of the crazy amount if feeding that needs to happen!

Pixie001 · 08/03/2015 17:09

Was so pleased to hear all fine with scan bushy!! I think you can start believing it more now..little girl ?. So delighted and nice idea to go out to celebrate. When will you start shopping?
Feather I don't think anything can prepare us...!
Lady last week for you...woop woop! Exciting stuff.
Hope everyone's enjoyed their wknds. We've met up with some friends for 3 course roast lunch...thank god for stretchy jeans!

Jelliebabe2 · 08/03/2015 22:25

Hurrah Bushy! That's amazing! Brilliant news!

greatbigbushybeard · 09/03/2015 22:44

Definitely feel like I believe it more, especially seeing her wriggling round on the screen, looked like she was doing bicycle legs!! I can't still feel movement yet so was really nice to see it on the screen. I think the sonographer said something about the position of my placenta making it harder for me to feel movement. Not sure what she said so may have a google ( normally try to avoid that but...!!)

pixie Love, love stretchy maternity jeans. Don't know how I'll ever go back to regular ones!! Not sure when I'll start shopping. I've got a baby magazine & the thing that's freaking me out is the whole travel system/ pram thing- I don't really get what I need!!

I basically just spent this w/e eating!! Out for dinner on Friday night, then out with friends on Saturday too!! I've decided that I need duck & pancakes so next Saturday we're having a Chinese with my family!

My mum wasn't sure whether she wanted to know the gender of the baby but changed her mind as didn't want to hear it from someone else, she was thrilled & said she had a feeling it was a girl as a flowering Christmas cactus she has didn't flower at Christmas but instead after my 12 week scan. It normally flowers white but this time was pink!! She thought it was a sign!!

Lovely to hear from youfeather hope things settle down for you soon.

Glad NCT went well lady

Hello rp & dodo!!

pearl I think I will go for over half a litre next time & see how that works out!!

I've had a real sniffy cold, sore throat & loads of ulcers. Feel grotty but like I'm coming through it. My TA tells me it's the baby taking all the goodness!

ladybunnikins · 10/03/2015 09:59

Bushy it probably just means your placenta is anterior, so at the front of the uterus, cushioning baby's kicks. The position of your placenta should be on the scan report. Mine is also anterior. I was told I didn't need a full bladder for the 20 week scans. Love your mum's comment!
We practiced installing the car seat at the weekend, it made it suddenly feel very real, that we are actually going to be responsible for a tiny baby!

greatbigbushybeard · 10/03/2015 22:24

Thanks lady, yes my placenta is anterior ( just checked the report). The sonographer said not everyone needs the full litre so I'm going to aim for 1/2 litre to 3/4. My next appt is 9.30 in morning so will have a wee like normal in morning, then drink my juice like normal. It does say to make sure the liquid you drink isn't milk. Will this mean no cereal in the morning? I can do toast/ muffins instead. I have recently found the most amazing thing- lime curd!! It's bloody lovely, I am obsessed with all things lime so it's right up my alley!! So lime curd on muffins will do me right!!

Ooh car seats!! Crikey! Have you bought an all in one or pram/ travel system or separate pram & car seat. I am such a novice with these things, does the car seat/ carrier click into pram or not? Don't quite know when we should be looking at these things.. Also know nothing about it, is there an idiot's guide out there?

Dh called bump ' her' & ' our daughter on the w/e, that made it quite real for me!! Eek!!

Think I def have grown in last week, looking v bumpy, which is tricky as head doesn't want parents to officially know yet. The pregnancy yoga teacher said I had grown. ( I was wearing a tighter t- shirt ) but think she's right!!

pearlcrystal · 10/03/2015 23:07

Hi all! Had the consultant appointment today and am not much wiser than before - risks that I already know about were confirmed and was basically told they won't be able to do much other than monitor me and react if anything goes wrong ( baby too small, preterm labour, etc)

The poor registrar who saw me was not having a good day though - not sure if she was new but she couldn't work the blood pressure machine then proclaimed my fibroids to be anterior until I gently suggested that that was the placenta ( as written in the scan notes she was reading), throughout this she kept dropping her pen too and then the midwife/ receptionist gave her a hard time cause she didn't fill out the next appointment sheet properly... Poor woman.

On the plus side will get 3 extra scans which will be lovely extra opportunity to see the baby.

Off to see the midwife tomorrow and hoping that I might get to hear the heartbeat, I need confirmation that this little one is still alive and kicking.

ladybunnikins · 11/03/2015 08:14

Bushy passion fruit curd is even better! Have a look at the products section on mumsnet talk for advice on car seats and pushchairs. We've gone for the britax dualfix car seat, it rear faces until 4 years and it swivels. Expensive, £350, but I bought it from Boots and you get 10 advantage points per £1 if you are a member of the parenting club. The disadvantage is that it isn't one that you can attach to a pushchair. On MN, opinion seems to be that this isn't a bad thing since you're not supposed to leave the baby in the car seat for too long, but people in real life have said we'll regret not having the option. Pushchair wise, it all depends what you want/need from a pushchair e.g. do you use public/private transport, do you live in an upstairs flat, is your walking going to be urban/countryside, are you a frequent flyer, how important is parent facing, do you want to run with it, are you planning to use a sling in the early months, what is your budget, are you/DH tall? Adaptors are available for most pushchairs to accommodate baby car seats.

Re:milk, I think they mean don't substitute your half litre of fluid with milk, you can have milk as well as the fluid! Milk counts as food and hangs around in the stomach for longer, rather than getting absorbed and ending up in the bladder quickly.
Pearl did you actually see the consultant or just the registrar? Hopefully it will all progress OK though, and it's good that they haven't caused you problems so far. A woman in my NCT class will probably have an elective LSCS because her fibroid is blocking the exit at the moment, she is hoping to have a . On another forum I lurk on, a woman with a healthy baby had a 30cm fibroid during her pregnancy.

RevoltingPeasant · 12/03/2015 14:33

Bushy we have the Maxi Cosi Pebble as bought from Merk and the isofix base to go with. You can get a pram base to just clip the car seat in and we don't have that, but sometimes I regret not investing in that. There are times when you just want to nip out of the car and pick up milk at the corner shop and putting her in our big Phil and Ted's off-road pram is a pain, and hauling the car seat round the shop is too.

That said, as a pram, the Phil n Ted is far superior. I can go off-road with it which is ace, as we can go for proper walks which when you are stuck in the house on mat leave with no other form of exercise is a real bonus. I take Dodo for a walk in the woods almost every day, and it's a real sanity-saver.

Lady are you off work now? How do you feel?
Pearl how do you feel after the appt? Sounds like they are keeping a good close eye. I was also at risk of preterm labour and found it useful to look at the Tommy's website which lists the different categories of preterm labour and the likely outcomes for each. I celebrated a bit each time I got closer to term!

Pixie001 · 12/03/2015 21:23

Sorry to not catch up properly but does anyone have any advice on back pain? Particularly in bed. I'm now sleeping on 2 pillows to try and comfort my back. Are pregnancy pillows any good?

greatbigbushybeard · 12/03/2015 22:28

Hello pixie, I was suffering from back pain & still am to a degree. A friend lent me a v pillow & I tried sleeping with that between my legs to help, which helped a bit & putting it behind me watching tv. I think lady recommended the dream genii pillow. It's about £50, you can get on Amazon etc . My neighbour lent me hers & although it's a bit boggling to work, you can watch a video online & it's obvious once you see it in action. I have found it really helps as the pain was waking me up. The only downside with it is that it's quite big & gets in the way of cuddles with dh.

Oh my god, passion fruit curd???!! Sounds good!! Where did you get yours from?

Dodo is v lucky having a woodland walk every day. Thanks for the pram tips. We're fairly suburban here but I do like a country walk.

Anyone else getting pain under their ribs? Mine is right at the top & v uncomfortable.

How did it go with the mw pearl?

Got my 2nd scan appt for next Friday.

Jelliebabe2 · 13/03/2015 08:13

Hi everyone! Scan later today and I'm scared to death! No bleeding at all for days and I had some just before I go to bed last night. And some this morning although brown now. I forgot to take my injections before I went out last night (progesterone and clexane) so took them as soon as I got in as well as my cyclogest. Just feels like my body wants to bleed and will do as soon as I stop the extra progesterone... I'm so scared there going to be nothing there! Oh dear. This is turning into a pity party. I'm fine its just a bit if blood, no pain, no cramps... Cmon better get up and at em...

ladybunnikins · 13/03/2015 08:31

Good luck today, Jellie, hopefully just a progesterone withdrawal bleed, especially if there's no pain. Fingers crossed for 1 or 2 jelliebabies!
Bushy the passion fruit curd is in M&S and our local posh garden centre.
Pixie I saw the dream genii pillow in TKMaxx this week for £25. Luckily we have a really good mattress - pocket sprung with memory foam - and my bump seems well supported by it. When I stayed in a travelodge recently I just couldn't get comfortable.
RP I finished work yesterday! Feels weird but good. Meeting a friend later for tea.
