How strange is it to name a younger brother, after his older brother?

DS1 is called Thomas Lee, I am 33 weeks pregnant with another boy, who we have decided to call George, but we are really struggling for a middle name, the only one that sounds nice is George Thomas.... is that too wierd to be carried off?

I knew someone, I'll call him Thomas George, whose parents always called him George.

He had a younger brother and the parents called him Thomas!

I always thought that was odd but what does it matter really?

NatalieJane · 06/10/2006 14:15

My BIL has always been known by his middle name, can't blame him because his first name is pretty bad LOL but if the baby decides he wants to be known by his middle name when he is older, I at least want a middle name I like!!

I have George Henry, George Patrick and George Alfred in the running so far, don't think DH will go for Alfred, but I think that is my favourite so far.

Any more for any more?

NAB3 · 06/10/2006 14:27

I know of someone who had 2 boys and a girl. The boys were called Tom and Tim.....

My son is Thomas George, the George being a child I nannied fors surname. I promised him I would name my son after him but my hubby didn't want his first name.

I would love a George Henry and when we get our dog I want to call him Henry.

NatalieJane · 06/10/2006 14:27

Well, what's everyone first choice then? Not saying I will go with it, just to get an odea!!

George Henry

George Patrick is nice.

Just to add to the thread - I work with a guy called James, his twin brother's called Jamie........

NAB3 · 06/10/2006 14:38

1st George Henry
2nd George Alfred
Wouldn't have George Patrick but this is just my opinion.

bran · 06/10/2006 15:17

I have to declare an interest here, my ds is George Patrick (his birth mum gave his first name and we added Patrick after my father when we adopted him).

My order would be
George Henry
George Patrick
George Alfred

ScummyMummy · 06/10/2006 15:35

George Patrick is great.

LadyTophamHatt · 06/10/2006 15:38

ds3 is james, ds1 middle name is james.

We'd run out of ideas by the time ds3 was born so that was the only option.

God knows what this 4th boy will be called.

If you like it, just use it....

bran · 06/10/2006 15:39

Yes it is great, isn't it. It was only modesty that prevented me from putting it top of the list.

We gave DH's name to 2 of our DSs. Our 1st born has it as a 2nd name, and our youngest as his first name IYSWIM!
Boys names became a bit of a problem for us.We have 5 sons (2 names each), and several nephews and Godsons.I didn't want our boys to have the same name as cousins or our Godchildren.

generaldogsbody1 · 06/10/2006 21:59

My mum is Mary, has two sisters, one Mary Ann the other Agnes Mary lol she has 6 brothers with many repetitions inc two with first name Alister!!!

Thats an island thing though lol.

My sis was also a Mary Anne.

Oh, and there were also plenty of johns thrown in for good measure

generaldogsbody1 · 06/10/2006 22:01

I must add that all the names were pronounced differently in Gaelic

All the same in english.

HI there...hm...how often do you actually use the middlename anyway...so, how many people would actually ever know and notice?
On another note...my Father inlaw was called Sydney George, and so was his father, but his dad was always knows as Sydney whereas my FIL is known as George!
So, you could always use Gerge in the middlename place but use it as a callingname!
Have to say, just trying to think of anyname that sounds good after George, and can't think of any, sorry!
