How strange is it to name a younger brother, after his older brother?

DS1 is called Thomas Lee, I am 33 weeks pregnant with another boy, who we have decided to call George, but we are really struggling for a middle name, the only one that sounds nice is George Thomas.... is that too wierd to be carried off?

My view is that children would prefer to have their own identity in the family and therefore name sharing is not good as names are very much a part of self-identity.

Gobbledispook · 06/10/2006 13:41

I agree Natalie. Look, just do what you want! I did!

NatalieJane · 06/10/2006 13:42

I am liking Henry, not sure DH will go for it, but who cares about him?!!!

I will put it on the maybe list!

very common in the past, particularly if it is a family name.

My dad was Gordon Richard, his brother Richard something-else (can't rememer ).

I guess any of the traditional names might go - James, John, William, Henry, Charles

NatalieJane · 06/10/2006 13:43

Gobbledispook, I am not sure I do want George Thomas, it sounds lovely (IMO) but really not sure on the sharing name thing, that is why I asked!!

George Patrick Oliver?
I like George Henry Oliver too.

Does he have to have a middle name? I thought that people mostly gave middle names because they wanted to use a relative's name but not as a first name.

VeniVidiVampireQV · 06/10/2006 13:53

Oooh - here's one....

George Nathaniel Oliver

PhantomCAM · 06/10/2006 13:53

George Benjamin Oliver?

MamaGhoul · 06/10/2006 13:55

She can't have George Lewis. His initials would be GLO

George Edward.

NatalieJane · 06/10/2006 13:55

DS has a middle name, I think it seems a bit unfair not to give this one a middle as well!!

I was thinking of Patrick the other day, then my mum might latch on to calling him Paddy, which I can handle, the sing-song version of Georgie-Porgie, or worse Georgie-Worgie (WTF????!) that she has seemed to pick up on has been annoying me already, and he isn't even born yet.

she'll sing that all his life. you just know it.

Seeing as his surname is like a first name (IYKWIM) waht about something like a surname as a middle? Too odd? What is your maiden surname?

George Simpson Oliver (or similar?)

NatalieJane · 06/10/2006 13:58

LOL at GLO

Nathaniel is too like my name (Natalie) also reminds me of a horrible little bugger I used to go to school with.

I can't rememeber all of the other suggestions but no more have jumped out at me, so keep going girls
