Breaking News - The withdrawal method does not work!!

This is meant to be light-hearted!

So after successfully using this method for the past 7 years since DS came along, we thought we were onto a sure thing. We now find ourselves 9 weeks pregnant, so it clearly does not work!

Has anyone else used this method but still fell pregnant?

Yep dc4 was from this method of contraception.

It's not a very effective method. But I notice that you said 'we' so there are two pregnancies? Yes, it's probably quite rare for two women to have the same contraceptive failure at much the same time

(I hope I've read that right, and it's not just a typo for "I'm" pregnant, but the 'ourselves' makes it seem rather less likely as that is explicitly two people who are actually pregnant at the same time). It must be a close friend or relative to know so much detail about the circumstance of how the other pregnancy came about. I do hope you're not planning on making this a party-piece tale to embarrass the two resulting children!

or the couple perhaps Auntie Stella . Some couples use 'we are pregnant' when they are pregnant.

Sorry for the confusion Auntie I am just talking about my own experience. Was really referring to DH as the other half of the "we" I was referring to since he had a hand in the conception

IMO it's a form of TTC

Embarrassing bodies did a thing on this a year or maybe two ago. They confirmed that its myth that men don't have sperm in pre-ejaculate (did a test on it too, and every single test subject produced some sperm in preejaculate, with one or two of the producing really high quantities). Their conclusion its by luck not judgement if you don't fall pregnant using that method.

It was on some sex special they did, the show included other sexual problems like tight foreskin too.

I thought it was common knowledge that it doesn't work.
I tried to convince DP to use this method but he's not as stupid as he looks

Rhythm method doesn't always work either, just so you know especially if you're not very good at sums. I'm 14 weeks gone...!

My DP is a bit of a hippy & always swore by it - I laughed at him & continued to gobble mycrogynon.

We started TTC, then with various life stresses decided to 'take a break' & use the withdrawal method. Two months later got my BFP

Delighted to be pregnant, and even more delighted our child's very exisitance will prove I was right and DP was wrong

This is the method used by my friend who claims she's 'finished having babies' as her DH doesn't want anymore. It's really safe you know...

Worked for me for about 2years then an accident then pregnant. Didn't believe it worked before and will not be using it after but did surprise me! (would not advise it!)

I'm an experiment in the "rhythm method"

However, my parents had reached the point in life when they could finally afford DCs, so I'm not sure how carefully they were following the experimental protocol.

Sorry but if you are trying NOT to get pregnant, it is idiotic to rely on the withdrawal method...

Just wanted to add that being lazy when on holiday and thinking 'we were only careless the once, i am sure we'll get away with it' is by no means safe either should have paid more attention to the agony aunt page in Just 17 all those years ago!! 32+3 xxx

I have been using the withdrawal method of contraception for fifteen years and nevertheless failed me. I'm now pregnant after not withdrawing for a year.

My mother is a product of this method of contraception, she was the 4th DC so my grandparents really should have known by then

Thanks all for the comments. Well as I said it seemed to work for us for 7 years and I know it isn't fool-proof but was still like how did that happen when I got my BFP .
