After much thought and discussion with consults due to medical issues im opting to bottle feed. Looking around there is so many different bottles to pick from are there any you would particularly recommend over others?

Hi.

My DS is 6 now so I don't know how relevant this is but I had the tommee tippee anti colic bottles.

Dr Browns were excellent. Helped my friends colicky child too.

Essexgirlupnorth · 24/10/2014 22:34

We used normal tomee tipee ones but my daughter didn't have colic. The dr browns bottles are hard to make formula up in because of the valve friends make it up in other bottles and decanted it

McFox · 24/10/2014 22:42

We use the Dr Brown's too, they are really good but I would recommend using another type to make up the formula in as the DB bottles leak if you shake them due to the internal valve thing. We use a tommee tipee bottle for this. I make up 3 bottles at a time and use the TT as a mixing bottle to fill all 3 DB bottles, its much less messy doing it that way.

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 24/10/2014 22:47

Thank you all will look in to the dr Browns ones :) x

I work in a special care baby unit and also have 2 kids who were bottle fed. I would avoid the Dr Browns bottles for a few reasons, very expensive, awkward to clean, really big and horrid to hold and clean. I would recommend MAM or NUK bottles and teats.

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 24/10/2014 22:59

Is there a particular mam one you would recommend?

We used Dr Browns as well, DD was 7 mths before she took a bottle though so anti colic thing wasn't an issue. Just some downsides- they are really hard to clean because of the special anti colic valve things and they have these white plastic discs that act as lids so you can transport the bottles- don't lose them! They were a silly price to replace & kept going astray. Still leaked sometimes in transit. Agree re mixing formula as above as well.

Actually now I'm typing this I probably wouldn't recommend them unless colic is an issue, then I'd try them. I'm not sure why I didn't just buy different ones now Hmm

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 24/10/2014 23:02

Haha Tricia your answer actual made me lol! Think I may avoid Dr brown and look into the mam ones

MAM silk teat, they do an anti colic bottle. All BPA free,

magichandles · 24/10/2014 23:05

I used Dr Browns with DD1 and they were good, but a faff to clean and messy. I tried MAM with DS and got on well with them so have gone with MAM again for DD2 - I've just gone with the green ones as they came in a set.

GingerCuddleMonster · 24/10/2014 23:06

it's tomme tippie everything in my house, not by choice just that's what we were given.

We have the bog standard closer to nature ones, they do the job just fine DS is 10weeks and has no gas/colic issues though. I have no complaints about them and they are reasonably priced sun you need to replace them (because the dog steals them and buries them in the garden Angry . )

Kirsty0612 · 24/10/2014 23:10

Started with tommee tippee but moved to mam anti colic would highly recommend them.

Slipper, you don't work at Lewisham, do you? One of the scbu nurses there recommended MAM or NUK. We went for MAM and find them pretty good. The downsides are the six pieces to wash when the bottles are broken down, and the fact that the markings start at 60ml. Our premmie was on much less than this when she was first discharged so we had to measure the milk out in another bottle.

Fermin · 25/10/2014 06:44

We got through a lot of bottles - turns out DS was very fussy about the teat - we tried Dr Browns, Tommee Tippee, Medela, Nuk and ended up with Avent Natural. Maybe get a small selection and see if there's any preference when baby arrives.

slippermaiden · 25/10/2014 17:07

I do t work in lewisham but us nurses mostly like the same thing! I think NUK are best, but MAM second best Smile

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 25/10/2014 20:48

I would recommend nuk and mam also must be a neonatal/paed nurse thing and as a maternity night nanny Dr Brown's are a nightmare for all the above reasons.

Bluesummer20 · 25/10/2014 20:54

Using tomee tipee anti colic bottles with my 2month old. So far so good, also got the tomee tipee perfect prep machine, so quick and easy to use Smile

Flisspaps · 25/10/2014 20:57

We used AVENT with DD.

ForTheLoveOfSocks · 25/10/2014 20:59

After 2 DC and trying loads of different brands including Dr Browns, Tommee Tippee and Avent, I found the cheap Morrisons and Boots ones to be fab and a fraction of the cost

Norfolkbumpkin · 25/10/2014 21:03

We used NUK bottles with latex teats, which were what was used on the children's ward when our ds was admitted for failure to thrive. The latex teats can't be microwaved and don't like the dishwasher, but are really soft and flexible compared to the silicone ones.

Lottiedoubtie · 25/10/2014 21:09

We started on Medela and have just switched to Avent at 6 weeks. No problems with either, only reason for switch is that the Medela aren't very big so long term not an option, although Avent seemed far too huge at first they work well now!

skunkpixie · 27/10/2014 23:26

Hey :-) I'd say start off with the simplest bottles you can ie ones with the fewest parts and are easy to clean. Few babis actually need high tech bottles like Dr brown's. Tommee tippee are really good I've found, and they're usually around £10 for 6 on Amazon. X
