"Are you allowed to eat that?"-weird food advice you've received when pregnant

Hi

I've noticed that people love to tell us pregnant ladies what we can and can't do and no more so than when it comes to my favourite subject, food.

MIL, soon after being told I was expecting, exclaimed in a panic "eggs! You mustnt eat eggs!". Conversely she says it's fine to drink booze "so long as you don't get really drunk". Lol.

Upon mentioning tuna, prawns, fish, seafood in general Ive had "are you allowed that?" from several people. Poor condemned fish!

The funniest one was chatting to a woman at work and she says "grapefruit" in a rather stern way. Apparently it's not allowed. Confused

I find it amusing that the above proscribed foods are all pretty healthy yet no one would blink an eye lid if I were to inhale Haribo or mainline Fanta for nine months (just don't eat eggs).

What ridiculous or hilarious food advice have you received from anxious well wishers?Grin

Honestly I appreciate the concern and I take safety seriously, but not obsessively when it comes to cupboard doors and coffee tables.... the safety cover we had built with the pool is integrated and automatic and a 20 stone man can jump up and down on it and not damage it. It rests on specifically integrated ledges and it would be impossible for anything to get into the pool. It cost and arm and a leg and (a head) and in my opinion is safer than a fence - which our neighbours have and their dog still managed to fall in the pool because the gate wasn't secured properly.... but their little dog was fortunately fine but shaken.. thank god it wasn't their little boy. I'm actually more concerned about pond... which will have something around it....

Just to ease your mind - it is rigid - not the bubble wrap type and in France they have strict law about pool safety and it conforms to their standards - so really we have put the appropriate measures in place. Stair gates that conform to my own personal safety standards (if there is a bar I WILL trip over it) is the next thing to tackle on my list!

Children... sigh, really turn your house upside down! and you move bank balance on a downward spiral! ;)

It's the pond I'd be worried about. Some friends have one of those pool covers and apparently you can drive a car on it.

Sorry, I must have got mixed up re. your pool and your pond, I thought you had the pond covered and needed a fence for your pool. Duh!

You can buy rigid pond covers too that go over the pond, I think the dome ones are pretty safe, and allow children to still see into the pond without falling in, plus they can't walk on them. :)
