Well do they show up that easily?! I had my 20 week scan yesterday (was not told the sex)and when we came out both DH and I said we thought we saw the testicles hanging down between the legs.........? Is that possible

ROFL at 'sausage and beans'. My DP eats these all the time, I will smile everytime he says it now!!!

micra · 03/10/2006 10:51

I know of two people who were told they were having a girl and it turned out to be a boy.
Our local hospital has disclaimer signs up saying they can only be 70% certain of sex. However, I reckon this is an overall figrue - with both my DD and DS, the sonographer said he/she was absoutely certain of sex, and if she wasn't certain, (eg cos of awkward position of baby), always tells parents she's not certain.

kittylette · 03/10/2006 14:42

hi,

at my 20 week scan with my 2nd son there was no mistaking his gender!

we spotted it before the sonogropher! and our little man was certainly not shy! lol

i was convinced before the scan that he was a girl tho - shows how off my instincts were,

kitty

fatfox · 03/10/2006 15:41

I saw DS's meat and poatoes on the scan before the sonographer did; there was absolutely no mistaking them

Just as well that we had both wanted to know anyway.

We found out at 20 weeks with both and will with this one hopefully, in a couple of weeks. I was more sick with DD, but got bigger and was more hungry with DS.

Have been less hungry and more sick with this one, so wondering if its another DD?

trinityrhino · 03/10/2006 15:45

I'm thinking of trying to find out the sex when I have my 20 week scan on thursday.
I am a bit worried that we will think we have one sex and it will be wrong. Not sure if we should find out really. That and the fact that my mother was adamant that she didn't want to know last time and we didn't find out (not because of her) and now I'm wondering how to deal with the fact that she won't want to know but my 6 yr old will want to tell the whole world so she will be told.

trinityrhino · 03/10/2006 15:47

someone put my mind at rest or something pleeeeeeeeeeeease

Daisypops · 03/10/2006 15:52

Micra-you got me worried now. I've bought loads of stuff for our bub so DP might be taking it all back if the sonographer was wrong! Is it more common for them to say its a boy when its a girl? Theres allsorts of theories. My gran said because I wasn't sick we'll have a boy but other folk I've spoken to have had girls and had no sickness. Who knows, ey? x

Twohoots · 03/10/2006 15:58

I saw a programme on Discovery Health where woman in USA was having twins (two girls they told her). She had two boys - oh dear! Wasn't that long ago either.

Daisy - I had no sickness and had a girl. Was convinced she was a boy though as I had loads of scans and DH kept telling me that he was positive that he could see a willy (I never looked closely as I didn't want to know).

Daisypops · 03/10/2006 16:23

Twohoots, thats scary! DP might be shopping quite a bit come January! The sonographer who did my 21 week scan was 'senior' so I keep telling myself she must be right. She also said she went back to look a few times but saw no 'dangly bits'! Just over three months to go til we find out for sure!

dollyjack · 04/10/2006 11:43

I always knew I was having a boy. It was the way I put on the weight (lots of pounds piled on in the bum and thigh area) Oh and I was REALLY sick. My friend had put on the weight in the same places as me and she found out that she was having a boy via the amnio test. At the 20 week scan they asked us if we wanted to know the sex and we were shown it WAS a boy. We have a photo JUST of his private parts to prove it. That'll be nice for the kid when he's grown up eh? Ha Ha

Dawnybabe · 04/10/2006 11:53

My sonographer said she thought that it was probably a girl, but I have heard that it is more common to predict a girl and get it wrong than vice versa. My best friend had two boys and was told both times that it was 'probably' a girl. Trouble is I now keeping thinking it's going to be a girl and am calling her by her pet name, so if it does turn out to be a boy I'm going to be very muddled up for a while. And I want to be buying some baby clothes so I've got something to dress her in when she does arrive. The lady at Mothercare in Norwich said buy packs of sleepsuits etc in both colours and then take one lot back, and they're not too fussy on the 28 day return rule either apparently. I'm very glad about that cos she's due a week before Christmas so I'm gonna be either trying to buy stuff on line and won't be able to get it delivered, or facing the Christmas shoppers, or risking the sales afterwards when they've sold out of all the good stuff. Best to get stocked up in advance I think, and buy a few blue bits to be on the safe side.

Sorry to ramble off on a tangent! My original point was that they think it's a girl and now I do too, and I hope we're right for the simple ease of being able to buy what I want at the time when I'm gonna be hassled enough as it is!

Daisypops · 04/10/2006 11:58

Oh! so the sonographer could be wrong! I've spent a fortune on coloured bub stuff, daft I know but I couldn't resist. It will be a massive shock if she was wrong. Does anyone know how many overall they get wrong? x

Twohoots · 04/10/2006 14:05

Daisy - don't worry hunny - I am sure they get very few wrong - it doesn't happen v often at all. I am sure you will be fine!

julezboo · 04/10/2006 14:35

I have mine tomorrow, hope they cay see!

I have only ever heard of one person being told the wrong sex tbh, she was told it was a girl, bought all pink, did the room out in pink and had a boy, but he was very poorly, born with his bladder on the outside of his body and penis was tucked up inside, sos he didnt really have much time after the birth to worry about them gettng it wrong, hes fine now though a happy 2 yr old!

mummydoc · 04/10/2006 14:40

I saw boy bits on scan with both dd1 and dd2 !!!!! the stats are that to boys are easier to get right, so if your sonographer is adamant it is aboy it likely is , if they are sure it is a girl don't count on it ( i think cause a lot of people think girls bits looking swollen when infact they are smallish boy bits) . luckily the consultants told us both dd's where girls despite me being sure i had seen boy bits - i nearly fell of the bed with surprise i had got it wrong both times. just shows how hard it can be.

Daisypops · 04/10/2006 16:10

So they tend to get it wrong if they've said its a girl then? Oh well, whatever we have its our lovely bub and we'll be thrilled.

Dawnybabe · 04/10/2006 17:15

We couldn't see any bits on our scan but I think that the sonographer was going by measurements and things. Mind you she made no attempt to tell us until we pointedly asked her, and that was at the end of the scan and she'd stopped the picture. Don't know how measurements can be that accurate, e.g. small boy, big girl, etc, who knows?
I just thought for some reason I was having a boy. DH said he didn't mind as long as it was a boy (think he was joking, grrr) and FIL said a boy would carry on the 'family name' (wtf?). Not bothered at all, just wanted to know cos I couldn't wait till the end!
Still feel a little bit unsure though.

teabags · 04/10/2006 22:32

It's bugging me, half wish I'd asked now! I'm saving myself loads of money by not knowing as I'd like to buy some baby clothes but I don't want a whole wardrobe of neutral colours

My friend and her huusband both thought they saw boys bits on their 20 week scan but they had a beautiful baby girl last month!!

SKYTVADICT · 05/10/2006 10:29

The sonographer said it looked like a boy - we hadn't noticed anything - she was actually a GIRL!!

julezboo · 05/10/2006 13:14

Im back from my scan and its a boy!!! Was pretty obvious too LOL

Twohoots · 05/10/2006 16:23

Julezboo - that's wonderful news. Get yourself out to the sales and get some 'blue' stuff. I have just come back from our local Mothercare and they have some lovely stuff in the sales for tiny ones.... Good luck x

Tiny1 · 05/10/2006 20:06

Skytvadict, did the sonographer point anything out when he/she said it? What a shock!

SKYTVMOSTHAUNTEDADDICT · 06/10/2006 11:06

Tiny1 - no she didn't really point anything out but just said oh yes it looks like a boy. We didn't buy anything though and already had a girl so it wasn't a huge problem. It just means I am a little more sceptical about these things now

Philomena · 06/10/2006 11:44

My SIL and mother decided that they saw the boy bits during her 20 week scan. My brother did not want to know, so the sonographer did not say a word.

20 weeks later, out popped a girl.
