Are you getting a winter maternity coat?

I'm not sure if I can be bothered to splash out on one but if I don't I might regret it when I am freezing my bits off. Baby due just before Xmas so will only get part of winter. Anyone else trying to wing it with existing cover ups or going to shell out for a coat?

I bought one from Jojo and am so glad I did, freezing already! It had a panel you can zip out so you can wear it post pregnancy. It's so nice to snuggle up with a coat that actual zips up when I go out!

I'm due at the end of December and still feels like I have a good few weeks of growth left in the coats I have (though not that any of them are really winter coats), so like you not planning to shell out on something I may only get a few weeks wear out of. Fingers crossed for a mild November and December :)

Cheap men's anorak, works just fine, unless you need to look smart.

I didn't bother with DS1 (February birthday) I just wore DH's jumpers and big scarves to cover the gap in the front, but tbh I generally went most places by car so wasn't outside for large periods of time. If I was walking a lot or travelling by public transport I think it would be worth buying one.

Smartiepants79 · 07/10/2014 22:10

I did with my Christmas baby. It came from Top shop and only cost around £50. It was brill. Worth every penny.
I wore it for at least a month afterwards as well.

ShebaQueen · 07/10/2014 22:12

It's been a while since I had my babies, but I bought a fleece wrap/cape from M&S both times and it was great, especially as I felt hot a lot of the time and was commuting by train.

Sorehead · 07/10/2014 22:23

I bought one from new look for £40. It's not as tailored as I'd normally go for so works nicely as both a work and casual coat and it's lovely and warm- glad I bought it :)

woodwaj · 07/10/2014 22:25

I bought an one from asda last night it was only 20 quid and buttons up to about half way down the coat. I just bought a size bigger as it seemed roomy enough.

freelancegirl · 07/10/2014 22:34

Hmmm you're making me feel like I should get one. Oh yes, I forgot that I might be in maternity/roomier clothes for a few weeks months afterwards too. My DS is a summer baby so it was much easier. And I DO walk pretty much everywhere only rarely going in the car.

I like the idea of the JoJo one with the panel you can whip out espa. Do you have a link? Not a bad idea just buying a bigger size but my bump is massive and I am normally only a 10/12.

Im only 22 weeks. I doubt it will last till Feb but i was glad i had it today when it was chucking it down!

DD who is expecting a winter baby too, bought a warm coat / jacket from Jojo. It has an internal drawstring so can be adjusted to fit. She is planning on wearing her coat after the baby is born over a baby Bjorn.

I live in America and some days are freezing cold already.
I'm 37+4 weeks and I'm wearing my normal winter coat. I always buy winter coat one size up because of all the layers I sometimes put on Grin
It is a long almost to my knees and I can zipper it up with no problem. And it also looks fancy. Smile

Have you maybe thought about a used one? As winter coats don't get worn very long you might find some really good ones and in new condition for a reasonable price.
Facebook selling page or eBay.. Just an idea

Sorry that it showed up twice. I'm on my phone. Smile

I have this one from JJMMBB...warm enough but not boiling... longline fleece

elsbethy · 08/10/2014 05:02

I got the H&M maternity parka (£30) when pregnant last year, and I'm wearing it again this year. It has huge pockets, which are handy for carrying around miscellaneous baby related items.

McFox · 08/10/2014 05:42

I bought a lovely swing coat from h&m last year which saw me right through.

It's not much to look at online but nice and cosy. I went for a 12 which is my normal size and plenty of room.

skyra13 · 08/10/2014 06:51

I have asked for this www.bonprix.co.uk/product/maternity-winter-coat-953441/?category=1702&type=image&return=ref

Trapper · 08/10/2014 06:55

My wife stole my winter coat for the last couple of months of our pregnancy. Could this be an option?

Trapper · 08/10/2014 06:57

Not my actual coat you understand, I was wondering if you had a larger partner with a coat you could use.

I'm due end of Nov/start of Dec and bought this cape style winter coat in Zara the other day, it's really roomy and cosy and a bit less mumsy than some of the specific maternity coats I've seen. Cocoon style/boyfriend cut coats are still around too which. Would probably accommodate a bump.

bellaboo88 · 08/10/2014 09:00

I got the new look one too, £40, very on trend & lovely & warm. As this is our first, I know I'll be using it in a few years again so worth the money x

bronya · 08/10/2014 09:03

Nick your DH/DPs coat - that's what I've done both times! Works a treat, costs nothing and he manages with an extra jumper and his raincoat!

toriaplum · 08/10/2014 09:11

I'm due in early December. I thought I'd be organised and bought a maternity parka from new look for £15 in the sale. It looked very roomy. However bump is huge and it won't zip up over it Hmm. I'm going wear it unzipped with a woolly scarf to keep bump warm Grin
