What Pram or Travel System have you chosen?

Just want to find what people have chosen, or what they think are good ones i like the SilverCross Wayfarer Pram System but only went to look at some today wanted to find out what other ladys options are.

Also are you buying all separate or a full travel system?

Hey, that is an excellent question we like wayfarer too. Whatever we get tho we are going to order from boots as around Xmas they have mega points events where you get £12 of points for every £50 spent then we can use the points to buy some more stuff x

Squtternutbaush · 27/09/2014 18:36

Before you buy a travel system try and have a look at the respective car seats to see which one fits your car best then if you want a pushchair for it to clip on to look into which types are compatible.

There's no point in having a car seat that doesn't fit your car safely and obviously this is more important than the pushchair itself.

We have the Silver Cross freeway and got it second hand for a bargain of £55! Second baby so we are doing things cheaper this time :)

Bellabutterfly2014 · 27/09/2014 18:44

That's a very good point about car seats, hadn't even considered that to be an issue - we are thinking of getting a bigger car ready for our new arrival but my mum wants a seat in her car too as she will be helping me out a bit with childcare and she was saying something about base units???

I think I need to do some more research into this!!!! X

skyra13 · 27/09/2014 18:45

That sounds like a good idea with boots! I also didn't think about it fitting the car! X

I have an 11mth old and recommend the Uppababy vista, lighter weight than other travel systems (bugaboo/icandy) and cheaper too. Also can convert to a double quite easily (although not needed this yet) for an older child or add a buggy board.

Fits a maxi cosi pebble seat.

Love it!

Bellabutterfly2014 · 27/09/2014 19:01

I think one of the problems is, you go shopping either in stores or online and you are literally spoilt for choice!!! The danger is you could make an expensive mistake if you don't really know what it is you are buying and for a first time Mummy like me all advice is greatfully received x

Squtternutbaush · 27/09/2014 19:02

Bella you can get bases that fit in the car for the Group 0+ seats (birth - 13kg) using either a seatbelt or isofix so that you just clip the seat onto this rather than installing it with seatbelt all the time.

If you're in and out of the car a lot or if you're nervous about getting the fitting right they are great but not a necessity.

If the car seat is going between 2 cars (and you wanted a base) I would recommend getting a base for each as they are not easy to take in/out regularly.

Squtternutbaush · 27/09/2014 19:08

On the pushchair front my advice would be to settle on your needs and work from that, my main questions second time round were:

Do I want a separate carrycot or layflat seat?
Parent facing seat unit?
Will it be used for walking on smooth ground or bumpier terrain?
Will it need to be folded for storage and how big is the storage space?
Will I use it mainly for walking, car, public transport?
What is my budget?
What accessories will I need to add to the purchase?

The answers to these helped me narrow it down quite a bit and I'm happily using my purchases 18 months on with no intention of changing whereas with my first I went through 7 pushchairs as I went for what I liked rather than needed.

Personally I really don't think you can beat the mamas and papas Sola. I was the only one of my mom friends who didn't get fed up of my pushchair and change for a stroller by 6months. The sola is actually easier and lighter to push than any stroller I've tried. It had a true lie flat seat, so could be used from birth, without needing to buy the carrycot (which you can get for it if you actually want one), its parent or forward facing easily, could fold into the boot of a Nissan Micra (08reg) and didn't need the seat removing to do so (no faffing in the rain and took up less overall space), you can get a few different car seat adaptors for it so no problem getting a car seat to use with it that fits your car well (or at least you could), it folded easily and smoothly. It was also fairly good on uneven, churned up pony fields, but doesn't have blow up wheels that could puncture like a lot of the ones that can go off road well. Can you tell I loved that pushchair and can't wait to get it out for DC2?

Eminybob · 27/09/2014 19:54

I got the mamas and papas zoom and am really pleased with it. I haven't used the pushchair part of it yet as I either use the carrycot or car seat at the mo as DS is only 11 weeks.
The only issue I have is that the car seat is a bit awkward to remove from the chassis.
It was a bargain at £299 for the lot, including car sear, carry cot and pushchair. Then we bought the isofix base which was £100 odd.

Another vote for the Uppababy Vista. DD is 10.5m and we're still completely happy with it.

Seasidedolly · 27/09/2014 20:33

Think we're going to go for the Bugaboo Cameleon, tried in in John Lewis along with the Uppababy Vista and Silvercross Pioneer (Similar to the Wayfarer but more robust- its really beautiful!) and the Bugaboo just had a few more features that would be handy for us.
My best friend has one and loves it, she worked in Mothercare for years and said it was the best out of all the ones she worked with.

If we didn't get the Bugaboo then we'd probably go for the Uppababy Vista, its American and when we went to New York earlier in the year, all the mummies and nannies in Central Park had them, plus they are really quite a good price as they get excellent reviews.

The lady in John Lewis said ICandy's are expensive for what they actually do (i.e not a lot compared to Bugaboo) and you have to buy the carry cot seperately. She also said the Silver Cross ones look lovely (very true, definitely the prettiest) but she said they do have a lot of people returning them due to faults, this is what put my off as I originally had my heart set on a Silvercross.

OooOooTheMonkey · 27/09/2014 20:47

I have a bugaboo chameleon which the maxi cosi pebble fits on. DD is 10 months now. I do love it, however with hindsight I would choose the uppababy vista (the pebble also fits on this). More room in the basket underneath Grin

Racheyg · 27/09/2014 21:00

I too have an uppababy, amazing buggy!!

weeblueberry · 27/09/2014 21:03

LOVE my Uppababy Vista. Its obviously heavier than a McLaren style buggy but I love everything about it. We're having number 2 in the spring and I'll be happy to continue to use it for another 3 years from now.

ToniWol · 27/09/2014 21:16

We've gone for the Silver Cross Pioneer (same top bits as the Wayfarer, but a more sturdy chassis with bigger basket and more robust wheels). Some good friends have said we can have their Maxi-Cosi Pebble and Silver Cross do adaptors so this will fit on the Pioneer, so it made it a good choice. We've also got a Family Fix Base so when we buy the next car seat up we can use the same base.

BanglesSpangles · 27/09/2014 21:22

Although its not been bought yet, after an obscene amount of intensive research (involving spreadsheets and test drives with various-sized nieces and nephews), we're pretty set on an uppababy vista- good price, size, handled well and wasnt a complete sod for our untrained selves to get up and down!

LBNM19 · 27/09/2014 21:22

We've gone for the buggaboo bee, I had the silver cross surf before and hated it. Not tried bugaboo yet but meant to be alot easier I've heard good things :) x

Artandco · 27/09/2014 21:32

If your in and out of the car a lot I would look at a smaller style one piece folding as it can get very annoying taking pram apart every two minutes

Opposite end of size, but do look at the babyzen yoyo newborn. It folds small enough for handluggage if you fly, and folds in seconds. Can be carried up stairs via strap like handbag ie at train stations/ friends flats/ at hotels etc.

Means you never need to get an additional quicker fold as they grow.

tortoisesarefab · 27/09/2014 22:14

IMO and 2 babies later, the must have features are:-

Adjustable handle
Large shopping basket (kids need loads of stuff)
Fold in one piece with the seat unit intact (nothing more annoying when in a rush to have to take a pram to pieces)
Make sure it fits in your boot with the wheels on (removing muddy wheels in the rain is not that much fun)
Preferably light weight and compact fold.

So it seems the uppababy is a popular choice!

Ive also gone for the zoom. I got it on a deal for £269. We managed to put it together and figure out how to use it with a quick play of it. I did get annoyed and confused looking around there are so many!!
