haemorrhoids during pregnancy

Hi everyone,

Is anyone else experiencing haemorrhoids in their pregnancy? If so how have you had this treated? I haven't seen a midwife yet but i definitely felt an internal one. I googled for information but they're all quite generic. Will it go in time? I know it's meant to be v common in pregnancy but it's scaring me a bit!!

Thanks!

Yes, I tried creams and ointments from shops but nothing seemed to get rid of them. I finally went to the docs and they prescribed me hc ointment cleared up immediately and never came back until now ( a few months without them) I've went straight back without letting them get do bad. Hth

WftsC · 24/09/2014 20:05

Don't mess around with the cream - straight on the suppositories if using over the counter stuff!

Then make sure you double the amount of water you drink in a day and don't strain on the loo.

I know whereof I speak Wink

Spaceboundeminem · 24/09/2014 20:33

Marking place I've had one since dc2 s pg now on dc4 Blush what are these suppositories you speak of?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 25/09/2014 10:10

Oh god ive just searched for this thread - over the last 24 hours I have developed piles Sad

Im 36wks pg and didnt get them during my last prwgnancy. Ive no pain, it just feels like im smuggling some marbles up there Blush

Will they go away on their own?

Tangomum21 · 25/09/2014 11:00

I hope they'll go away on their own too, but I think a trip to the doctors may be unavoidable! I just wish I found out a bit earlier when I was at the midwifes!
Thanks for everyone's feedback!

Have you all told your OHs? I just want to tell dh how fucking annoying they are but they are such a vile ailment that I really dont want him to ?boak?

ithoughtofitfirst · 25/09/2014 14:02

I told him straight away, i had to cause i was in agony. I had prolapsed varicose veins from my fanjo too from standing up and getting up and down off a chair painting the flat! Most of it has cleared up now because i've been resting a lot more.

OTC stuff hasn't worked for the back passage though... is it worth going to gp?

pinkteapots · 25/09/2014 15:49

Havent told OH because if I mention the piles I may as well mention the varicose veins that have popped out in my fanjo, and in the interests of having sex again someday I think i'll keep that to myself. This is the first time i've had those, despite 4 previous pregnancies, and they are sooo ugly. My lady bits are a mess. And I havent even given birth yet! Sad

ithoughtofitfirst · 25/09/2014 16:06

I know pinkteapots it's terrible!

GozerTheGozerian · 25/09/2014 16:11

They've been the bane of the last few weeks of this pregnancy. Had terrible piles, saw doctor, and got some suppositories although she also said I couldn't really do too much about it as they'd clear up once I'd had the baby (unhelpful but probably true). They did clear up although seem to be reappearing ... Dreading labour for this reason - they took ages to go after DC1!

Tangomum21 · 25/09/2014 16:53

I told my bf, he was quite practical abt it and wanted to check, but I said no to that!!

Honestly, the things our bodies go through!

I got them really bad and painful with ds2, but it was quite late in pregnancy and then they got a lot worse when I actually gave birth!! Used Anusol which gave some relief. Along with the episiotomy it was all awful down there... Just generally healed in time.. Still there a little now but no longer painful.

biglill · 25/09/2014 17:54

Mine didn't go away. One year later I have had two examinations, one from a GP followed by one from a surgeon and the decision was to a) check they were what we suspected by having a camera investigate round the bowels then b) have the 'banding' procedure where rubber bands were snapped on each one to cut off the blood supply so they drop off on their own. It was fine, I declined anaesthetic and went straight home and can no longer feel the offending lumps, presumably they have gone for good.

myusernameis · 25/09/2014 17:58

Do haemorrhoids cause lots of pain and make you bleed when you go to the toilet? I had my baby 10 weeks ago now and it is agony when I go.

ithoughtofitfirst · 25/09/2014 18:11

I think they can do myusername dh complains of this. We looked it up at looked like it could be internal ones. They can definitely bleed when you use the toilet

Redrosesplease · 25/09/2014 20:27

They go away after the pregnancy but are vile. Mine prolapsed and were agony.

Absolutely do not get constipated! Do not strain on the loo!
No hot baths
Use creams and suppositories from the gp if possible or ones over the counter.
In extreme circumstances uses a cold pack (well covered ice cubes) if prolapsed.
Grit your teeth and have no more babies!

tinklykeys · 25/09/2014 20:32

Are anyone else's insanely itchy??

Or is that just me.... Blush

ithoughtofitfirst · 25/09/2014 20:37

They were insanely itchy. Now they're just, well, a pain the ass.

ithoughtofitfirst · 25/09/2014 20:37

No more babies you say. Goddit.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 25/09/2014 20:44

Sad no hot baths?! I hate a lukewarm bath!

ithoughtofitfirst · 25/09/2014 20:59

If my skin ain't bright pink, it's not a bath.

ch1a · 25/09/2014 21:06

myusernameis look up on anal fissures as well. I have had both and it was the fissures that made doing a poo absolute agony. Like having to clutch hold of the towel rail agony.

The creams won't help fissures at all...I managed to get it to heal by eating a high fibre diet and drinking loads and loads of water. And this is too much information I'm sorry but I had to very gently push for a poo. no straining. Like how you push a baby out to avoid tearing. I am now pain free for a month after six weeks of hell.

ch1a · 25/09/2014 21:08

And fissures also helped by sitz baths as hot as you can stand! So please be careful about which one you have as different treatment for them!

CSLewis · 25/09/2014 22:10

My mother-in-law recommended Bio-Flavanoids (from holland & Barrett type places, over the counter) for piles and they Actually Worked. An very quickly - a few days taking the capsules cleared mine up, and they had been quite bad Confused
