just a quick one as I'm off to work in a few minutes. We've just been sat downstairs watching Greatest Blockbuster Movies - or whatever it was called. I was doing my best to talk normally about other stuff - he was doing some ironing.

He just told me to stand up.......so I did, he walked over to me, gave me and a hug, and (admittedly with a slight degree of hesitation in his voice) said "lets have a baby then"

We've agreed not to talk over any of the issues in the letter or his reservations - instead we're just looking forward

Aww Im so pleased for you !!
I've been in a similar situation to you, finding out we were having a third when dd was 6 months old. I'm so glad the accident happened now (hes 15 months). Wishing you a great pregnancy!!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 25/09/2006 15:39

aww - only just got up (as was working last night). You've nearly had me in tears just reading all the messages! I did have a few ciggies last night - but they tasted vile so don't thihk there's going to be any more of them

.......oh and I went to the toilet more than 12 times in 9 1/4hrs........is that a record????

DH had a few 'things' for me to think about - and I had to decide which was most important (haha - we diagreed on that one!). And think of solutions.

  1. Our 3rd bedroom - where the computer is, really isn't suitable for a baby/child - it gets absolutely FREEZING in the winter (the October after we moved in it was 13c at 2 in the afternoon with the heating on ). Gets really cold in here and would cost a fortune to get it all 'reinsulated' (or whatever it's called.
  1. We've got a 3dr Ford Focus.......space is going to be a bit of a problem!

Anyhow, he thought no.1 was more urgent (I disagree even if it's a girl they can still share with the boys for a few more years yet). And there's enough room in that bedroom for a bunk bed and a cot/junior bed when the time comes.

I think no. 2 is more of an issue - the Ford Focus simply isn't going to be big enough for us - especially with the new car seat rules!

Anyhow, we've still got time to work out solutions to those ones......and many others that are bound to pop up at being a family of 5 .

Now I just keep panicing that it's so early and there's still a chance I could lose the baby. Surely I'm not going to be so lucky as to have 3 trouble free pg's........am I?

No crying but huge grin- hope that's enough

So pleased this has happened. And so too, but the new kitten'll have to do - for a but

PeachyClairHasBadHair · 25/09/2006 15:44

QofQ- now myself I've managed to fit in three, BUT you're exempt from the car seat rule if you can't fit them in the car. We managed a 'proper' car seat and two Graco hi back things in our Proton, but as I say technically if you can't fit them in you are exempt

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 25/09/2006 16:12

really??? DH would be relieved to hear that - in the short term, but there's still the issue of having no space for a friend/family etc etc......and boot space!

I lurked on your other thread QoQ and am so happy for you. I am the youngest of three and my parents had NO money for many years when we were young and I had the tiniest bedroom you can imagine but all I remember is having a lovely time as spoilt youngest child and playing with my brother and sister. I can't imagine NOT being a family of five. Hope everything goes well for you.

suejoneziscalmernow · 25/09/2006 16:19

Oh and I used to sleep on the settee doewnstairs if we had anyone to stay - it was exciting!

NomDePlume · 25/09/2006 16:21

I have a Focus (mine is a 5 door) and I regularly fit all 3 of my kids in the back. Only one car seat though.

NomDePlume · 25/09/2006 16:22

Boot space has never been a prob either.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 25/09/2006 16:25

we're going to need 3 car seats. DS1 is only just 6 now (booster cushion), DS2 is nearly 3 (high back car seat) - then obviously we'll have the baby too!

harrisey · 25/09/2006 16:27

BRILLIANT QOQ!!

So happy for you!!! (all of you!)

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 25/09/2006 16:27

but the Focus boots are tiny!!! And unfortunately still doesn't take away the issue that we would have no space in the car for family (ie my Grandad if we visit him and want to take him out, or my brother who's on his own and doesn't drive)......

OP posts:
harrisey · 25/09/2006 16:28

We have one big car seat and 2 boosters in the back of an Astra.

Boot space - we bought a box for the top. A lot cheaper than a new car!

mumandlovingit · 25/09/2006 16:30

ive always wondered about this problem when considering another child.ive thought about buying a car like a mondeo or astra with three proper seatbelts in the back so that all three can go on their seats needed safely.realistically if you get a 9months plus carseat that will use a lapbelt then that could go in the middle after 9 months and the other two either side on boosters/carseat.its only the weekends when dh isnt working that youd need all three in the back with carseats until the baby is 9 months.just a though before you go pay a lot of money out unneccesarily.how often would all 5 of you be in the car? if its everyday then id try to get one with all three proper seatbelts in the back.

PeachyClairHasBadHair · 25/09/2006 16:36

We don't have space in the car for family either QofQ, and my parents don't drive so that can be a pain. But we do manage.

Our eldest is six, he had a booster but the Graco high back takes up less space. The Britax goes in the middle, graco's on the outsides. Seems to work.

I was also one of three (eldest) and my bedroom was so cold- well the house really- that we'd ahve to defrost water that had dripped into the sink overnight, and as Mum would regularly leave clothes on the line, we would have to stand them on top of the (only) gas fire to defrost them LOL. Can't say I'd put one of mine through that (though I ended up remarkable robust as a result) so that would be my priority. Electric blankets and thick duvets all very well, but when it takes you an hour to get up the nerve to get out of bed..... nah

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 25/09/2006 16:40

LOL the image of you standing your frozen clothes on the gas fire to defrost them

NomDePlume · 25/09/2006 16:41

Boot space is actually pretty generous in the Focus for a car in the small family hatchback sector .

TBH, I've always rather liked the fact that as a family of 5 with a 5 seater car(2 of, in fact), we are not constantly ferrying other people around . Use it to your advantage, I say !

PeachyClairHasBadHair · 25/09/2006 16:42

Oi I was poor and neglected I woz...

(actually we used to ahve fun building towers of jeans stood on each other LOL- strange times!)

PeachyClairHasBadHair · 25/09/2006 16:44

Dh ahd to do the same, says you lot don't know what it was like in rural Somerset in the seventies LOL

misdee · 25/09/2006 16:48

roof box is a very good idea actually.

what sort of pushchair do u have? small stroller (techno type) wont take up much room in a focus boot will it ? (i am assumming that its similar size to new style astra)

and you are right, if the baby is a girl, and the boys room is big enough to fit a cot in, then it doesnt matter atm.

there must be ways of insulating that room. does it have double glazing? what is the heating in there like? is the rad working properly, has it been bleed recently? i have to bleed the rads here every few months, the one in the girls room was only heating 1cm at the bottom.
