39+3 reduced fetal movements- should I call the midwives?

Hi, as the title says I am 39+3 in my first pregnancy. Since Thursday I have noticed that baby seems to be moving quite a lot less than usual (she's been super active throughout the pregnancy). I do still feel her move occasionally but she isn't reacting much when I jiggle my tummy about or eat something sweet or drink something cold.

I feel worried about contacting the midwives as I know they are really busy and it might just be first time nerves but on the other hand I can't shake the anxiety that something isn't right?!

Anyone had any similar experiences? Any midwives out there with advice?

Please help, nervous first time mummy!!! Xxx

Yes, you must always contact your midwife if there's a change in movements. Call them immediately. They might be busy but it is their job to ensure your baby is safe.

Caillou · 13/09/2014 19:23

Go and get seen, better be safe than sorry.

You will never waste their time, they are here to reassure you and make sure all is ok.

I had similar at 39 weeks, i called midwife and they said to come in to get checked out, i did and everything was fine, i think as they get bigger they have less room to move

I would definitely give them a ring just for reassurance x

dyslexicdespot · 13/09/2014 19:23

Yes you should call. Good luck.

hollie84 · 13/09/2014 19:23

Movements might change as the baby gets bigger, but they shouldn't reduce.

Annietheacrobat · 13/09/2014 19:24

Yes call immediately

RobinSparkles · 13/09/2014 19:26

Yes call the MW. They will tell you to go in for monitoring.

It's probably nothing and your baby is just having a quieter period but it's best to go in for a check and reassurance. The midwife will not think that you're being silly if everything is fine, they would rather be safe than sorry.

hollie84 · 13/09/2014 19:27

When you call make clear that the baby has been moving less for several days and isn't responding to cold drinks etc and you want to come in straight away.

bonzo77 · 13/09/2014 19:27

Straight in. NOW! Don't be fobbed off. GO!

FidgetPie · 13/09/2014 19:28

Yes - go in and get monitored ASAP - always better to get things checked - they won't mind at all.

RobinSparkles · 13/09/2014 19:30

I meant to add that DD2 went quiet at the end. I was worried and called the hospital who said I should go in ASAP. She started moving as soon as I got there but the Midwives were really kind. They would rather that than the alternative.

Greyhound · 13/09/2014 19:31

Just to say - it's a myth that the bigger a baby gets the less it moves because it has less room.

Pls get checked out and, if you have already been checked out, I hope all is well.

drLu · 13/09/2014 19:31

Defo go. The midwives at our hospital are fab and always say to go and get checked out if worried - better to do that and be fine than wish you'd done something

Anotheronesoon · 13/09/2014 19:46

Please go in. My first baby had a stroke just before being born and my second was induced as I had lack of movement twice in the week before due date. Midwives so lovely assured me it's much better to go in and be safe rather than sorry - go in, you will feel so much better for doing so and I'm sure it will all be finebut not worth the risk.

Fattyfattyyumyum · 13/09/2014 19:49

NO ONE is going to tell you to ignore it. So for gods sake get off mumsnet & call the professionals

MrsKCastle · 13/09/2014 19:50

Yes, as everyone else says- go and get checked out. Don't worry about the midwives being busy- it's their job to look after you and your baby. I'm sure they'd want to see you.

squizita · 13/09/2014 20:08

Yes I would call.
A friend of mine had this, turned out to be a silent labour! Lucky she called and they had a look.
Also some placenta get less efficient towards the end, so if they scan and check at least that will put your mind at rest (or they can induce you).

Howaboutthisone · 13/09/2014 20:16

as everyone else has said- call them and ask to be checked out. It'll hopefully be nothing but it most definitely is not a waste of their time regardless.

Pregnantagain7 · 13/09/2014 20:19

Yes definitely go in I went in on Friday because of reduced movements, midwives were lovely and said to always phone. Little monkey started dancing as soon as I got on the monitor! This is my fourth so don't worry about being seen as an over anxious first time mum I would still call it's just not worth the risk :)

Mumtobeyorkshire · 13/09/2014 20:37

I've called, am on my way in. Thanks for all the advice. Will update once I've been checked out.

PlacidApricots · 13/09/2014 20:47

Hope all is well with baby x

ItsNotEasyBeingGreen · 13/09/2014 20:50

I had this... They monitored me and said he was a bit 'lazy'. They gave me lucozade and he 'woke up'. But they decided after more monitoring to keep me in and induced me but I was at 40+11!

Good luck OP. Thinking of you.
