I know that generally nothing is proven to work and baby will come when ready but has anyone got any tried and tested tips to get things going?

I had a sweep yesterday and have been doing lots of walking and when at home am between chasing a 2.5year old around and bouncing on a birthing ball! Just want this baby out now so willing to try pretty much anything!

Am watching with interest! My midwife said sex, curry and walking upstairs sideways!

CoolCat2014 · 05/09/2014 08:59

Also watching with interest...

Dancing! Get the music channel on and you and the toddler dance the baby out.

frannie2013 · 05/09/2014 09:03

i'm 39+3 so watching with interest too! i can manage another night or two but any more i might just go mad... the thought of another two weeks might drive me crazy!!

lucidlady · 05/09/2014 09:12

40 weeks today and no signs of any activity so watching with interest! I've tried the curry, pineapple and sideways walking to zero effect. DH refuses to have sex because it might traumatise the baby - I've pointed out repeatedly that his willy isn't THAT big but he's having none of it Hmm Really bored of being pregnant and just want to meet my little bubba now!

The day before I went into labour I had to run after my three year old as he'd run off from me towards a road, and later that day walked up the biggest hill in our town. I was a week over due. Running was hugely uncomfortable with a massive bump so it could have been that topped off by the walk but I'm not sure it would be recommended!

I'd also been taking raspberry leaf tablets for a month but really not sure if they did anything.

Littlefrenchmummy · 05/09/2014 11:59

Walking, running, going up stairs and sex. If its going to come then ta=hat will bring it on! Good luck !!

kitkat321 · 05/09/2014 13:26

My friend tried driving ove speed bumps at speed but that didn't work for her.

I know a few people who say that a pregnancy massage or accupuncture helped them go into labour - think it had something to do with how relaxed they were.

Miriama · 05/09/2014 16:37

Can I join in? I'm 40 weeks on Tuesday and very fed up. Tried sex and curry, pineapple is next! Have two large dogs so been walking a few hours per day - nothing seems to be shifting baby yet!

weebairn · 05/09/2014 18:17

I think they just come when they come. I was still walking long daily distances with DC1 for weeks up till my due date, I had regular sex throughout the entire 3rd trimester, curry is the meal I cook most often…

I also took raspberry leaf tea tablets from 34 weeks.

I was grumpy at the complete lack of signs and then my waters just broke at 40+4.

Finola1step · 05/09/2014 18:19

Sex.
My ds went to 42 weeks. What got him in, got him out.

AlwaysandForever09 · 05/09/2014 18:21

Good luck to everyone :) Saw my midwife this week, who said if anything was to help then sex would do something, due to the semen e.t.c. 39+1, so will be trying to DTD lots this weekend if I feel up to it! Curries have just made me feel crap the next day, so avoiding hot foods now!

imisssleepandwine · 05/09/2014 18:26

I tried castor oil today, it worked for DD1 but It just made me vomit for most of the afternoon. feeling really ill now. I'm 40+5 I'm willing this baby to come this weekend. I've tried everything.. I can't imagine having to wait another week!!!! How often do women go 2 weeks overdue?

imisssleepandwine · 05/09/2014 18:30

Sex make the most sense alright. My DH is over the moon we've had sex 3 times over the last 24 hours!! I have even propped my bum and legs up so the seaman rests on the cervix afterwards?

Tealady1983 · 05/09/2014 18:34

Movicol! At 41+4 thought i had better prep for induction planned for 42 else lol. It did the job for me x

lanbro · 05/09/2014 18:34

Both mine came the day after dtd, didn't try anything else but they were both early!

RebeccaCloud9 · 06/09/2014 13:39

I have heard a couple of mums swear by loads of clary sage oil in the bath.

FoodieMum3 · 06/09/2014 14:00

I'm 39 weeks tomorrow. My last 2 babies were born at 39 exactly so I was really expecting to go this weekend.
No budge at all yet, not even one symptom of imminent labour Sad

I'm going to bring dd for a walk in the buggy later. We had sex this morning, for the first time in over a month Blush

I know that every day in there is of benefit to baby but I'm finding every day such a drag now.

Crownjewel · 06/09/2014 14:17

Watching with interest... 38 weeks and thoroughly fed up of being pregnant too! Plug came out last Sunday (and Tuesday, and Thursday - who'd have thought there'd be so much of it?) but not even one little twinge so far...
My DP is also Confused at the thought of sex, he's worried that baby might know what's going on (???) - tried the full range of usual tricks: his favourite meal, new sheets, sulking, crying, but he's having none of it...Hmm
Short of going for a jog (not likely with PGP, ankles like telegraph poles and boobs like bowling balls) I'm at a loss...

Bellyrub1980 · 06/09/2014 14:51

I thought a major part of having sex was that the (specifically your) orgasm could help start labour... Not sure if that's due to the uterine contractions or the production of oxytocin... Maybe both?

Either way, if he's not up for full sex you could still achieve the above!!

imisssleepandwine · 06/09/2014 15:48

I can't believe that some men still have that attitude to sex with pregnant women.... Odd. Sex has two benefits the first is prostaglandins in the seamen which help open the cervix and the female orgasm releases oxytocin which can bring on contractions.

I've been burning clary sage oil all it does is give me a head ache. I went for another long walk today. getting some niggles in my thighs but nothing that feels like real labour.... I'm now 40 + 6 so getting pretty desperate

ithoughtofitfirst · 06/09/2014 16:03

Lmao @ walking upstairs sideways. LIKE A CRAB.

ithoughtofitfirst · 06/09/2014 16:09

Madras. Sitting in my local indian, eating my madras.... BAM contraction... woah what was th... BAM next contraction.... we'd better ask for the bi.... BAM

etc

Was pretty embarrassing

FlossieTreadlight · 06/09/2014 16:10

Book a really lovely self-indulgent day out with friends - coffee am, afternoon tea, dinner out with them, perhaps a film and a night in a hotel room on your own. Then really, really look forward to it. Guaranteed to get things inconveniently shifting Wink

polkadotdelight · 06/09/2014 16:42

ithought I did the sideways stair climb twice but then decided bugger that!
