Need a ine syllable name as middle name

Good choice!

Sunnysideup · 17/09/2006 17:43

please please christen him Charles, it's SUCH a lovely name; love Charlie too but it ISN'T A NAME it's a shortening....

flowertot · 17/09/2006 17:53

Not usuallyva fan of shortenings myself I must admit but can't stand the name Charles. So stuffyq We are finding it extremely hard to find any boys names that we both like so the fact that my husband likes Charlie I am holding onto!

oh, let you off then I suppose

collision · 17/09/2006 17:59

My nephew is Charles Edward.

SIL liked Charlie and Woody as a shortening for Edward.

Cant stand either of the names myself ie charles and edward but do like Charlie.

There are some names that are typically shortenings but seem more acceptable like Charlie, Jake, Max, Zac.

youknowyouloveitCOD · 17/09/2006 18:13

charlie will sonds tupid when he is 55 and a captain of industry

Mercy · 17/09/2006 18:27

You could put Charles on the birth certificate but call him Charlie. Like Charlie/Charles George too.

Yes, know what you mean cod. I knew someone whose name was Mandy (not Amanda), fine when she was younger but not so good in your 40s. Doesn't apply to all names though.

flowertot · 17/09/2006 18:28

Just love it when people start getting nasty! Everyone has their own opinion on names, just chill. Only asking for ideas thats all

Charlie Joseph

That was going to be DD's name had she turned out to be a DS

QueenEagle · 17/09/2006 18:32

I wouldn't personally have a shortened name on a birth certificate. ie ds4 was a huge struggle to name, dh wanted Jamie on the cert as well, I didn't like the name Jamie anyway (too common) and insisted that it be James and a shortening would follow when his personality appeared iyswim. He his mainly called JJ or Jay and James when he is naughty!!

I fostered a boy called Charlie for 2 years when he was a baby so have a soft spot for it but would in this instance put it as that and not Charles on the cert.

QueenEagle · 17/09/2006 18:35

ps I like Charlie Joseph or Charlie George too.

I don't think it has to be one syllable unless of course you have set your heart on that.

youknowyouloveitCOD · 17/09/2006 18:40

sleepysooz · 17/09/2006 18:46

charlie Joe

Moomin · 17/09/2006 19:11

When i was pg with dd1 we agreed on the name charlie for a boy (I'd always liked it) and funnily enough dh was very keen on george for a middle name which i put down to his dad being called george... and then i saw some footage of arsenal in the 60s featuring a certain star striker called charlie george (dh is a gooner). it made me larf though and i didn't really object. if she'd been a boy she still would have been charlie george!

also like charlie joe
max also good

sorrell · 17/09/2006 19:22

I don't see the point of officially naming kids with nicknames. YOu give them the real name, and call them the nickname, surely? Gives them more options in life.
Charles James
Charles Henry
Charles Stephen
Charles George.... goes with everything.

And remember, past the Christening/official naming NOBODY ever says their first and middle names together anyway. They could be called Charlie Ebenezer Gaylord and nobody would ever know until they get married.
