Is it true that morning sickness gets worse each pregnancy?

Just me wondering ,I had morning sickness with first preg.which wasn,t pleasant but copeable with as long as ate reg.etc.& remember it tailing off a bit round 16wks mark. But with 2nd preg. it was horrendous if I wasn't being sick ,I was dry wretching all day & all night.Had to get Buccastem( anti nausea drug ) in end which helped a bit but still had constant queasy feeling & sick right up till day went into labour.I t didn't let up any trimester!Anyway have read & heard that if u suffer morning sickness it will get worse each pregnancy( think it was Mother & baby mag. I read it in!)just wondering ,has anyone suffered bad morning sickness with one pregnancy & then went on to have another preg. with no or very little sickness(or vica versa)
Incidently the preg. when I had really bad sickness was dd & one where not too bad was ds.Is it myth that sex of baby relates to how sick u are or not?
Anyway as I said just me being curious as I have never not suffered it & always think when speak to friends or relatives who are expecting & have never had or felt morning sickness that it must be heaven!

Mine got worse with each pregnancy I am afraid. Last pregnancy (4th) lasted till 16weeks. Helped by using seabands.

Twinkie · 26/03/2004 13:03

None last time with DD.

This time - feel crap all of the time - if I am not feeling sick I have terrible heart burn and indigection and only bloody 7 weeks!!

dinny · 26/03/2004 13:04

Oh no! Was just thinking that I'd ideally like another two children (on number two, v bad sickness still now, 17 weeks). Bugger!

#2 definitely worse than #1, sickness-wise, Ronyag.

meanmum · 26/03/2004 13:13

Sickness with ds was not too bad, similar to yours Ronyag in terms of having it for 16 weeks but very mild and controllable if eating sensibly and constantly. Sickness with dd who is second child was worse but not quite as bad as yours. Lasted longer than 16 weeks and had actual vomiting with bad indigestion for most of pregnancy. I just assumed it did get worse with each consecutive pregnancy which is making me question whether we'll have number 3 or not. Not much help to you am I but if we fall pregnant with number 3 I'll definitely let you know if it is related to the sex of the child or if it does just get worse with each pregnancy.

Pg 1 with ds - sick every day and one Buccastem too.

This time round - only sick once with mild nausea most days. Having had m/c in between this made me a paranoid freak, but others have said that they are had very different levels of sickness in different pregnancies

fio2 · 26/03/2004 14:15

no sick with no 1` not with no2

nutcracker · 26/03/2004 14:17

I was very sick with DD1, quite sick with DD2 and not sick at all with Ds.

expatkat · 26/03/2004 14:20

Mine followed that pattern, but it's hard to know if fatigue (i.e. having to look after an older one too) exacerbated the feelings. One mother I know had 3 very different pregnanciesonce she was sick the whole way through, once she had no sickness, and once she had a little nausea, in no particularly orderand she said that every pregnancy is different and you can't predict your level of sickness in advance. That sounded sensible to me, but I guess I don't really know the answer.

dinosaur · 26/03/2004 14:21

My current pregnancy (third one) has definitely been the worst in terms of feeling sick.

florenceuk · 26/03/2004 15:07

A bit sick with no 1 - enough to make me feel like I had a hangover every day for a month. Horribly sick with no 2 - have thrown up practically every day for weeks now, just starting to get a bit better now at almost 11wks.

kiwisbird · 26/03/2004 15:50

God I really hope not!!
None with DS preg 1
Puked 20x a day for 5 mths with dd preg 2

arrghhh

dinosaur · 26/03/2004 15:51

Is there any truth in old wives' tales about girls making you more sick than boys?

fio2 · 26/03/2004 16:02

I was very sick with dd1, continually nauseous, horribly acute sense of smell detecting the one iffy strawberry in a punnet stuff...with dd2 I did throw up but it would be a 'hey, here it comes' moment and then I'd feel OK again.

eidsvold · 26/03/2004 18:52

sicker second time around than last time. First one was dd - don't know what this one is... last time - sick first thing in the morning for about six weeks.... this time - queasy and odd puke throughout the day all day.

sibble · 26/03/2004 20:23

very nauseated and sick with DS1, lasted in varying degrees throughout pregnancy but personally think was made worse by having to work full time, long hours in highly pressured job. Am now 20 weeks with no.2 (excluding m/c last year when I had slight nausea) and has been equally as hideous but stopped at 17 weeks. Felt different though as was able to give up work at 7 weeks(ish) and spend all day lying around nibbling toast while DS went to nursery or to friends to play.
Really think mine at least was made worse by tiredness and stress........had late night (for me 10 o'clock last night - sad I know) and felt very sick again this morning.

Posey · 26/03/2004 20:40

None at all with no.1, a bit with no.2.
(I had a molar pregnancy in between and had appalling sickness, but that was due to extremely excessive levels of pregnancy hormones). Made me very grateful my 2 normal pregnancies were relatively sickness-free.

Pretty productively sick with first pregnancy - daughter incidentally. Not just nausea but lots of spewing.

Not a day of sickness with current 2nd pregnancy (now at 37 weeks) - this one is a boy.

More credence to the suggestion that often (not always) girl = sickness, boy - doesn't.

handlemecarefully · 28/03/2004 05:54

Mind you this 2nd pregnancy has a different set of problems - recurrent sinusitus and ...insomnia!

Bronze · 17/04/2004 14:42

well from what I've read here I'm going to go with my mums prediction of a girl. I'm sooo much worse this time round and from reading your posts it does seem more common with a girl

I felt like I had food poisoning 24 hrs a day, with 1st pregnancy (ds) and 2nd pregnancy (dd). Felt bad first time coz I had to get to work, and felt just as bad 2nd time as I had to look after ds, but he used to sleep with me on the sofa - bless!

Both lasted for the usual 12 weeks
