mothercare are awful

I just thought I would let you know how appalling the mothercare phone/internet service has been.

I ordered all my baby goods over the phone/internet, spending a considerable amount of money.

They were delivered on time, but in an appalling state. Some of the boxes and goods (things like a bouncer chair and the blankets) were delivered to me wet and in damaged packaging. The man dumped a heavy box in my hand to carry up the stairs. Im 33 weeks pregnant, and this was totally inapproprite. He refused to let me have the cot, and said the whole order had to be returned.

When I called up to complain the customer service manager was very rude with me, she said I was lucky they were delivered so quickly and was short, unsympathetic and totally unhelpful. she refused to put me through to a manager, or let me know when my goods would be redelivered.

I was made to feel like I was lucky there were there at all, and that my complaints were not taken seriously at all. I was spoken to very ruidely.

I would under no circumstances use mothercare again, and thought people would like to know how awful they have been.

I know. Honestly, don't even need to read your post.

Twiglett · 29/08/2006 13:22

put it in writing to head office

Kidstrack · 29/08/2006 13:23

speak to your local cab/trading standards and cancel the order and get a full refund, order your baby goods from another online company

SpaceCadet · 29/08/2006 13:26

must admit, ive had both good and bad service from them.
when ds2 was a baby, his new mothercare pram broke and had to be returned for repair, mothercare told me they had no loan pram to give me!
i then entered into a huge row with them where they were basically going to either, make me wait weeks till a loan pram came in, then repair, or take the pram and leave me with out one! i couldnt win, i phoned up the store manager and made such a fuss that they eventually couriered a loan pram over to me from another store.
however when i was preg with dd2, we got ds2's cot down from the loft to find the bolts missing, it was still a current model with mothercare so phoned them and they sent replacement bolts to my home within a week for no charge.
my motto, do not put up with shoddy service..complain, complain and complain.
in all honesty mothercare should be taking this up with the courier they use.

Carameli · 29/08/2006 13:26

oh poor you Saka, that sounds terrible.
If they are still being that rude to you I would insist on getting a refund from them and order from somewhere else. Is there anything that you specifically had to get from mothercare.
There are so many other websites out there that I am sure would give you a much better service than you have received. I would call their head office and complain about how you were treated.

I used kiddicare lots when I had my dd and they were brill. How about john lewis as well. Have ordered things from them and they were really helpful and polite.

hope you get it all sorted out soon. But really don't let it get to you too much. There are so many other places out there that will give you a good service.

SpaceCadet · 29/08/2006 13:27

and forgot to add as others have done..cancel the order and get a refund.
ive had a good experience with john lewis in the past.

oliveoil · 29/08/2006 13:27

The staff look at you like they want you to vanish as well if you go in to the shop:

"yeah n I said to im, i'm not having it"
"did yah?"
"yeah"
"no wayyyyyy"
"Yeah! n Stacey told him to tell Stevie that he..."

"so, yeah, deffo told im innit?"

All I can say is John. Lewis.

xx

intergalacticwalrus · 29/08/2006 13:30

Mothercare are pants.

Do you know which courier service they used, as they should know about thier surly unhelpful driver. I think they probably subcontract to local couriers, so it's worth finding out if you can.

I use Kiddicare myself, much cheaper, and much better service. They still use local couriers, but to be honest, I have never had a problem with them, and the customer service of Kiddicare are fab. Plus they usually deliver within a week. And it's free!!!

SpaceCadet · 29/08/2006 13:33

lol@oliveoil's mothercare staff impersonation!
i have been known to actually say to staff that have done that to me" sorry for interrupting your conversation" in sarky voice

VeniVidiVickiQV · 29/08/2006 13:37

ROFL OO

We, er, already know about "mothercare"

WELCOME TO MUMSNET

oliveoil · 29/08/2006 13:39

LIZS · 29/08/2006 13:40

Got great service from Boots.com a week or two back. Worth a look if they sell what you are needing. Got free(and prompt) delivery and lots of extra points.

My friend had trouble with them aswell, she had ordered her travel system from them, when she sent her partner to pick it up because she had just had the baby, they said to her partner that they had no record of the order and because he forgot to bring the receipt there was nothing they could do. So they had to spend another £200 on a travel system from Toys r us and had to wait and get their money back when she came out of hosp! The staff are bad in there aswell, they are sooooo miserable!

PinkTulips · 29/08/2006 13:44

that sounds awful saka

gotta say i'm lucky with my local MC, it's quite small and the girls are always lovely and helpful and really friendly. never had to order anything from them though.

definitley insist on a refund and send a letter to store manager telling exactly how annoyed you are and that you will never be using their service again (might get you some concillatory (sp?) store credit if nothing else

oliveoil · 29/08/2006 13:47

...although, I did get measured for some feeding bras way back when and the woman was very lovely and cooed over dd1. But she was older and I find they make the best shop assistants.

My double buggy was from there too.

Saka - you would surely think that if you are a courier service delivery for Mothercare, there is a chance that you may find a pregnant woman at the end and may have to do a bit more lifting etc than you usually would? Did he expect you to carry stuff???????!!!!

kdinas · 29/08/2006 15:17

Everytime I talk to a shop assistant in mc, they have a "trainee" badge on, smirk.
The changing rooms are always locked, they never have any stock, and they don't like it if you try out the equipment.
I thought it was only my local one that was so bad.
Although the girls do love to serve my goodlooking husband, so I usually take him with me!

Twinkie1 · 29/08/2006 15:23

I decided not to bother with them after asking for a fitted cotbed sheet and being looked at like I was asking for a quilted snozzle lampopo bed hopper!!

Steer clear of them and M&P.

Agin John Lewis are FAB!!!

shhhh · 29/08/2006 15:31

at the delivery guy..!!

I ordered a nursing chair off a store on ebay, the guy that delivered it actually ended up delivering all of my baby itesm from differnt places as he was a courier service.

With the nursing chair dh told me to ask him to leave it in our hall way and dh would carry it to dd's room once home. The guy actually insisted on carrying it up to dd's room. .
This same guy even "tooted" as he drove past on a delivery following him seeing banners up announcing dd's birth, lovely guy.

I haven't had probs with mc but haven't ordered from them before. I did buy some hooded towels from my local store for dd and aftre 1 wash they came apart . They were brill, gave me a refund and a new set of towels.

Would stand your groud though. Shocking how some companies are.

mazzystar · 29/08/2006 15:36

Honestly, write to head office, they need to know how appallingly their staff treat their customers. You don't need that kind of thing when you are pregnant.

John Lewis are so so so much better.

SpaceCadet · 29/08/2006 15:50

i cant praise john lewis enough, they are so helpful, excellent delivery service.
when i shopped in john lewis for my baby stuff for dd2, they made me feel so important, where as in mothercare, you feel like you are using up their coffee break if you have the audacity to ask for help.

pol26 · 29/08/2006 15:52

I honsetly can say Mothercares service is naff and so is john lewis if you actually want something before your baby is born!!!

We now use an independant nurseryu retailer- not more expensive and the service is fab!!! We travel a fair way to get there but got everything in one fair sweep and they have fab offers too. After DD i boycotted mothercare and john lewis for big purchases as they are hopeless and having worked in nursery retail I can say they have spotty teenagers telling you about things they have no concept of! Would you buy a pram from someone who can't even pronounce the name or fold it up???

I would ring the office back and ask to speak to the supervisor and write to them too. Demand to speak to the supervisor as it's you're right or say you'll have afull refund for undelivered/faulty goods.

MINNIE1 · 29/08/2006 15:53

So sorry this is happening, Its such excitment getting all the babys stuff together and all of a sudden it turns into a nightmare!
I would ring them up and tell them you want a refund, i know its hard and you dont need the hassel of going looking again but its not good enough your heavely pregnant and they should not be treating you or anyone eles like this.

SpaceCadet · 29/08/2006 15:53

i have to say that in john lewis, i had never been served by a spotty teenager.

Tommy · 29/08/2006 16:05

I have just ordered a toy from there which didn't arrive on the promised day (cue one very disappointed DS ). When I phoned them they were so unhelpful - I got quite cross and normally I try to be restrained when I do things like that.

Saka - I woulde definitely take your complaint up with head office.
