mothercare are awful

I just thought I would let you know how appalling the mothercare phone/internet service has been.

I ordered all my baby goods over the phone/internet, spending a considerable amount of money.

They were delivered on time, but in an appalling state. Some of the boxes and goods (things like a bouncer chair and the blankets) were delivered to me wet and in damaged packaging. The man dumped a heavy box in my hand to carry up the stairs. Im 33 weeks pregnant, and this was totally inapproprite. He refused to let me have the cot, and said the whole order had to be returned.

When I called up to complain the customer service manager was very rude with me, she said I was lucky they were delivered so quickly and was short, unsympathetic and totally unhelpful. she refused to put me through to a manager, or let me know when my goods would be redelivered.

I was made to feel like I was lucky there were there at all, and that my complaints were not taken seriously at all. I was spoken to very ruidely.

I would under no circumstances use mothercare again, and thought people would like to know how awful they have been.

You know what, one of the best things about my children being out of nappies/prams/babygros etc is that will never have to set foot in Mothercare again.
It has some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced.
Maybe the recession will sort them out one way or the other.

My Phil n Teds Vibe had an unacceptably shaky wheel after 8 weeks so Mothercare's "pushchair guarantee" means they have taken it off me for 4 WEEKS (most of which I'm stuck in as it's pretty hard to get round without my double). Not a replacement double anywhere at any store remotely close to me (and I live in London so that's quite a few stores unable to help).

To add insult to injury John Lewis have now started stocking the Vibe - any probs with them it wouldve gone straight back! Argh!

JamInMyWellies · 21/02/2009 22:19

sorry slight hijack, Pickles our P&T vibes front wheel has just started doing this too did they say it was a common fault?

I have just had a bad experience with the aintree mothercare store the staff lied to sell a baby plan order saying oh u get a money off gift card wen u spend over £500 which has now turned out to be money off vouchers where u have to spend at least £50 to get £5 off. I also had to right a complaints letter reguarding the state the cot was delieved in all the packaging was fine showing no sign of damage but the cotbed inside was all broken and the wood split. They also delivered the wrong colour of pram. Both which i had to return to the store. The staff also instore advised me items were buy 1 get 1 half price wen they was not and i only realised this wen i checked my reciept when i returned home as i had spent alot instore so never thought to query the cost the same member of staff also ordered me the wrong moses basket hello for like half hr we discussed i was having a girl and i bought everything pink why would i want a BLUE moses basket. They also did not honor what they said bout the price drop with items on the baby plan as the pram dropped by 10% and they said they would knock off the 10% when i rang the store then changed there mind wen i got there, this all resulted in me writing a complaints letter to ([email protected]) and after several emails with them saying they wouldnt be able to do anything i recieved one stating they would send me a £15 gift card which after many phone calls to them ended up being a cheque as i told them i would never set foot in another mothercare store.

Needless to say i would never recommend mothercare to any1 who wanted there stuff delivered on time in perfect condition and who didnt want lying to at 33 weeks pregnant its not something that a women should be worrying about!!

This thread is 4 years old! Please start a new thread rather than adding to a discussoin that's long dead and buried.

Sorry everyone for bumping this again.

Oh my god Lisajayne I've made the mistake of shopping in Aintree Mothercare a few times over the past couple of months and it's dreadful isn't it??

The staff are so uninterested and a couple of them are down right miserable and unpleasant!

Your experience is in another league though! What a nightmare!

kawaiiko · 26/05/2010 19:50

Twinkle1 I want a quilted snozzle lampopo bed hopper! And an oompa-loompah!

Sorry, I'm feeling a little flippant tonight. This is a sobering thread, though - I had no idea (18 weeks w/no.1 and soooo much to learn).

msjayjay · 26/05/2010 20:14

Mothercare seem to think they have a monopoly but this may bite them in the back. I have only shopped there a couple of times but have never been impressed. They are overpriced, a lot of there shops are in stupid locations for pregnant women and the staff I have dealt with have been quite rude. If you are pregnant yes you are going to ask what seems silly questions about a product, seems the staff think we all know exactly what we want and what it is for.

Send the stuff back, complain like hell and go somewhere else.

AnyFuleKno · 26/05/2010 20:26

Feel your pain, OP. But just for balance; I have used my local mothercare loads and they have been consistently fab, always want to strike up a chat about dd and really helpful. They mended my pram when I had broken it though my own stupidity - for free, and spent hours demonstrating car seat s and prams (I am very bad at making decisions so went back often to look again)

There is also a mothercare world round here which is ace, it has a huge model of a magical tree inside which houses the elevator, dd loves it.

AnyFuleKno · 26/05/2010 20:28

whoops, hadn't noticed this was an old thread!

My local MC have always had helpful staff.

I do agree that they are ovepriced though. And their clothes are not nice.

We ordered our changing table/chest of drawers from MC on behalf of my mother who wanted to get us something nice. It arrived without some holes needed to put it together drilled in the plinth.

I complained in a letter to head office, short, concise and to the point, told them this really wasn't on considering their reputation amongst mums to be, and I looked forward to hearing from them with their reply. When I rang them originally to complain the woman on the other end (who sounded v young) said oh, shall I just refund you some money? I said no, I don't need any money, I spent as much money on it as I wanted, I need to be able to put the thing together!

Anyway, after the letter I got a reply saying that they were sorry and they included 20 quid vouchers for me, which I think was a nice way of dealing with it really.

They also replaced the plinth v quickly.

  1. How come there is no option of complain in your drop down ? Can you sent me a email address so that I can sent an email of few complains which I have to your Chief officer.
  2. I purchased few items from mother care, worth more than £500 and in return the delivery went to a wrong address with wrong name and with an item missing.
  3. This is all without any communication from your end. . I NEED EMAIL ID IF YOUR CHIEF ASAP TO MAKE A COMPLAIN.

My wife and I brought a double buggy for our 18 month old twins (Ipswich copdock store)- brought on a sunday and paid cash. We were told it would take up to four working days for delivery. On the third day, wednesday, I called mothercare customer services to enquire about the progress of our delivery. I was stunned at the utter lack of interest, rudeness and poor level of service, when I called back and asked to speak to the customer services manager as I wanted to complain, I was told "they're in a meeting"; again another utterly disinterested 'customer services representative'. I only wish I'd seen this post earlier and gone to John Lewis as I surely will in the future. Never again spending any money with mothercare!

Mothercare itself never had a problem with, but the delivery company they use isn't brilliant. Its also the same company that they use for catalogues such as Kays/littlewoods and toys r us.

The moses basket I had from MC had been opened, as had the bike I got from toys r us. And they frequently leave parcels outside despite the clear note saying to leave with a specific neighbour :(

ChrisandChristina · 11/03/2011 19:08

I have vowed never to use Mothercare again. A sales assistant was so rude to my wife in their Brighton shop that she was reduced to tears. When I complained in writing to Mothercare customer services they sent us a £15 gift card to 'offset our disapointment'.... what an insult. I will never spend another penny with them.

curly2gardening · 19/11/2013 22:56

Has anybody else experienced problems with Mothercare's delivery in the past week??I am making a general comment about the service. I made two large orders on 13th November. The items were due to be delivered to store on the 15th. I chased this with the store the items were not delivered.
First I called and they said there were delivery's but that the boxes hadn't been opened. I popped into the store at the time they asked me to call back. The boxes still hadn't been checked. I came back an hour later still no check.
I decided to check with customer services. I had received no communication about this delay. I contacted customer services which simply replied saying there had been a delay. I asked for an explanation I was then told the items were delayed due to a computer error. I received an email over the weekend saying the delivery would be with the store on 18th Nov. The items were not. I received automated emails saying the orders had been updated. They both still state 15th Nov as delivery date.

Today 19th Nov. The items are still not in store. I called customer services, who called the store. They told me the items were with City Link on the way to store and that the store would call me. They haven't. These orders contain the majority of my hospital bag, and it's a considerable order. Including things like a Caesarean belt. I was in the hospital with a bit of a scare yesterday and had to be monitored for the day. All I kept thinking was if the baby comes early I do not have my hospital bag prepared. This is beyond ridiculous. I ordered my items via Mothercare because I assume they could be trusted to deliver. They have actually made the experience more stressful.

littlecrumb · 20/11/2013 08:44

I have had some trouble with Mothercare recently when trying to order for delivery. Like it not showing up for weeks after it should of been back in stock! Then when it did finally arrive a box was missing so we could not put the silly thing together! Confused So we then had to wait again. We obviously complained and they surprisingly dealt with our complaint quite well.

tsw · 20/11/2013 11:36

They are all pretty bad. I had a horrendous time with Babies R Us. Ordered the cot I really really wanted & saw they had deliveries for Saturdays (had already bought & received a mattress for said cot on a Saturday). But when ordering it says they will arrange delivery with you afterwards.

I asked for a Saturday, citing that the website offers this, they said it wasn't available for large items & must be a Mon to Fri. I said I am still working, no one in so it has to be a Sat. Nope. I asked 3 times to talk to a manager. They wouldn't let me. The manager tries to call me back when I am driving so I can't pick up & TELLS ME that they will arrange for a delivery the next day (a Thurs) whilst I am at work. I call back fuming saying who are they to dictate when my parcel should arrive etc etc & I want a Sat - lady says "well we can't so...." so I ask for a refund.

I wait patiently for 2 weeks - no refund!! Call them & they say they haven't received the items back yet so to send them when I can - I am ready to scream at this point & tell the idiot that I never had them to return them & they are in the possession of the courier/warehouse. What's the point in customers signing for things if they don't look at this. So I remembered I had paid via Paypal & quite pleased I had as I put in a formal complaint saying Toys R Us had failed to provide me with my goods & kept my money. Got a refund within 15 mins of that!!! I sent a strongly worded letter of complaint which had a reply basically citing everything that had happened & that they hoped this would help - I said no & that they have lost £100s because of their stupid customer service & lack of care.

Snobble · 20/11/2013 14:53
