I have taken myself to bed, but what should I do, do I need to go to my gp tomorrow? Would they do anything?

How heavy is the bleeding?

Is it a bright red, brown or orangey colour?

Do you have any pain with it or just the blood?

Sorry for the questions but what I'd advise would semi depend on the answers.

However, I think with any bleeding that isn't a little spec then if you're worried going to gp (or if a lot, out of hours or a+e).

I had a lot of brown blood in my pregnancys and went on to have healthy lovely babies.

Divster · 27/04/2014 20:30

Hi Divister,

Definitely contact your gp/midwife tomorrow, its good to keep them in the loop and they are there to help.

Sometimes bleeding doesnt always mean the worst and at your stage it can simply be impantation bleeding. I had this, and was told it is perfectly normal, and a good sign implantation had taken place.
I've also had different episodes of bleeding, one at 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 9 weeks and 12 weeks!! These have varied but the recent one was extremely heavy and with clotting and cramping and I was even told by the dr they thought i had had an incomplete miscarriage. Each time Ive had my scan and baby been fine!!

Very stressful but its not always the end.

Hope everything goes well for you,

Hope :) x

Your GP can send you for a blood test to check your hormone levels of hcg. Usually you have 2 a few days apart to check the levels are rising. They may also send you for a scan although some won't until you are 8 weeks.

I had bleeding throughout my pregnancy. It was often bright red blood (the colour is actually irrelevant though, unless you have cramps and pain) all was fine.
Fingers crossed for you.

alita7 · 27/04/2014 21:56

insist your gp refers you to your nearest epu for a scan.

I had pink spotting and some red blood between 6 and 7 weeks and had a scan which showed a heart beat and no cause of bleeding. I'm now 12 + 3 and had my 12 week scan which showed a super active baby :) So don't despair it could be ok.

Divster · 27/04/2014 22:19

I will phone and get an appointment for tomorrow with gp then. The bleeding has eased off now, but still have a very tender sore tummy.

eurochick · 27/04/2014 22:24

See if you can self refer to your local epu. If not ask gp to refer you. They will be able to scan you to see if all is well.

Bleeding is very common. I bled every day for three weeks from 6+5 this time. When I miscarried I didn't have a drop - it was only discovered at a scan. I think on the stats bleeding has a 50/50 outcome.

I hope all is well.

AnnieHoo · 27/04/2014 22:28

Hope you're ok. I'd also say phone your local EPU or GP first thing. If you need to talk to someone tonight I called NHS 24 when I was bleeding and cramping at 8 weeks and the nurse was very sympathetic and helpful. They phoned my local maternity unit who called me back and told to come in ASAP. That was at 11.45pm when cramping got bad. Take some Paracetamol if it gets sore. Sending you big hugs and hope you get a good nights sleep. xxx

Divster · 27/04/2014 22:29

I am sure at ours you have to be referred, will see.

Thank you everyone, don't feel so panic stricken now. Was really hoping this was a wonderful sticky egg, even announced it on fb! Even have a name for it! Feel like I have jinxed myself now

Can I just test it out of my system, or do I really need to be seen. Pain is worse, and bleeding is much like a period, so really think its a miscarriage

OP posts:
Raskova · 28/04/2014 05:48

How you doing? Definitely get seen as you'll have a definitive answer and that'll be worth it's weight in gold.

I had an evening of light bleeding. I went on to have a beautiful healthy daughter. Think positive xx

FengMa · 28/04/2014 05:54

I had bleeding in both pregnancies - GP sent me for early scans and all was well each time. Try not to worry.

AnnieHoo · 28/04/2014 07:49

Hi divster
How are you feeling now?
Definitely call them.. If it is a miscarriage you need reassurance that it has all passed out to avoid infection. It's crap I know x

Divster · 28/04/2014 08:40

I am having what feels like early labour pains, the ones that grip your undercarriage, just without the excitement part

OP posts:
AnnieHoo · 28/04/2014 08:51

oh I'm so sorry Divster, i went through it a couple of years ago and its like mini contractions. Hope you're able to stay at home today curled up on the sofa.

There's a brilliant MN thread on the practicalities of miscarriage here that helped me get through it a bit easier.
