Hello all

Can anyone recommend some naice post c-section clothing that I can wear at the hospital? I'll have to wear a nightie for the first 24 hours because of the catheter but after that we'll have various visitors (we'll be staying there for three nights) and I'd rather not be wearing PJs the entire time. I was thinking that maternity yoga trousers might be nice but I'm finding it hard to find any that I like. So perhaps a nursing dress? Budget isn't an issue, but I'm a size 14/16 and desperate to find something that won't make me look and feel frumpy. To give you an idea of what I've been wearing so far, I've managed to make do over the course of the pregnancy by stretching my poor normal tops out of all recognition and buying a few maternity dresses, tops and jeans from Isabella Oliver, Seraphine and the GAP when I really need them. Can anyone recommend anything that won't sit on my scar? Any advice appreciated!

Thanks!

I would buy nice pyjamas that's what everyone else will be wearing , you will look odd in a dress.

I got some great "lounge wear" pj/trousers from primark which are only about £5 - so comfy and you can wear them under scar rolled down or higher above it. Really comfy and are a bit between pjs and normal clothes. Primark also do a load of tops with buttons down the front (vest tops and with long sleeves) which are really cheap so I lived in those at hospital and at first when home (and 4 weeks on are still living in them when I'm in the house)

I had a c section last time round and I wore maxi dresses. They were maternity ones with necklines suitable for breast feeding (v-neck/sleeveless). I have packed the same this time around in case of c-section as nothing to press on the scar and no awkward bending to put them on. I didn't feel or look odd! Most people were fully dressed and I hate sitting around in night clothes during the day.

Hello! I'm a 14/16 and also having a C -Section, I've got some beach dresses from m&s that double as nighties and plan on wearing them with a cardigan. They're in bright colours as I anticipate I'll need a bit of a 'lift'!

Spaghettinetti · 18/04/2014 13:18

Plus they're 100% cotton so will be nice and cool!

theuncivilservant79 · 18/04/2014 13:24

Harem type pants with wide elastic waist bands were good Grin

I second the primark yoga style pj's but if you want to be more 'dressed' then maternity over the bump leggings with long top will be comfortable over your scar.

Oh and make sure you have MASSIVE pants that come up to your waist!

Thanks all, the advice is appreciated!

However, I really don't want to be in PJs, and dressing like everyone else isn't something I'm ever bothered about (plus I'll be in a private room so it really makes no difference). Like Flickstar, I hate wearing nighttime clothes during the day, they make me feel dozy and like Spaghettinetti (brill NN!) I'm hoping for a bit of a lift, especially as I'll need to be in for a while.

Flickstar the maxi dress is a brilliant idea, why didn't I think of that? I'll pick up a couple and get some nice bright cardis a la Spaghettinetti and hope for good weather. Can anyone recommend somewhere that I can buy nice lounge trousers that aren't Primark? I've looked online but they all seem a bit low-slung and I'm worried they'll sit on my scar? Any brands that anyone can think of would be a massive help!

Thanks again!

I think [[http://www.heavenlybump.co.uk/maternity-trousers-and-leggings-c3/maternity-trousers-c4/heavenly-bump-maternity-lou-lou-printed-palazzo-trousers-p159 these]] look comfy and I think over the bump. Not sure if you're after a plain style though. New Look has some plain styles if so.

Flickstar · 18/04/2014 15:30

And this is the kind of style dress that worked well for me last time. www.heavenlybump.co.uk/maternity-dresses-skirts-c1/heavenly-bump-maternity-maxi-dress-gathered-front-navy-blue-p15

Thank you Flickstar - I hadn't heard of that brand but I will have a fish about on there. I really like the blue dress - great suggestion!

I just wore my maternity leggings and tunic in hospital from the day after c-section. To be honest it was the only thing comfortable on my belly for about a week as the whole belly area was bruised and sore

Boogles91 · 18/04/2014 22:19

Not had a csection before but have had major surgery on my bladder and the scar is pretty much the same place(just below bikini line) as a csection quite big. When i was in hospital i wore a nightie for about 3 days then when i was able to get out of bed with the help of my lovely farther and the nurses i wore some joggin bottoms without elastic in the waist band, and loose pj bottoms. Also had got some cheap stretchy vests so i didnt feel like i was in pjs all the time. Nothing pulled or got caught on the staples and was ok to wear with my catheter and drain. Although for couple of days i didnt move out my bed as i was so exhausted from the surgery, and had no energy. Although i didnt like the feeling of the drain every time i tensed my muscle to move it felt horrible >.< and it was held in by two stitches wich would pull all the time. thats what i was comfortable wearing, but if your comfier in dresses then go for it :) i dont see why not x

Mrswellyboot · 18/04/2014 22:23

I was in hospital for six days after emcs and I had dark plain coloured pj bottoms in much bigger size and bought pretty cream and navy lace tops. Once I had a bit of make up and earrings, I felt dressed up enough. If you can't wear pjs in hospital and all that.

Cupcake11 · 19/04/2014 08:16

Asos do some really nice maternity lounge pants. They have a really thick waist band that you can either fold over and wear low or wear over bump. They're a really thin material so they won't make you hot either - I've got two pairs as they're as comfortable as pjs but a lot smarter.

mylittlemonkey · 19/04/2014 08:54

I have had two c sections now and the best thing I have found is to get a pair of really soft over the bump leggings. These ones from mamas and papas are really soft and comfortable but just be aware that your post birth belly will be smaller so get a couple of sizes smaller www.mamasandpapas.com/product-black-leggings/s0007294/type-s/?item2=S295B31G6&quantity=1&h_item=S295B31G6&cm_mmc=Shopping--Google%2520Product%2520Search--Black%2520Leggings-_-S0007294&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Product+Listings+Ads&utm_medium=cpc&utm_content=7MKgMSU7%257Cpcrid%257C36744279850%257Cpkw%257Cpmt%257C%257C&gclid=COqN38WG7L0CFesSwwod2m0Arw&locale=1&bll=1

The other thing you should be aware of is underwear as a lot tend to come up to just where your scar will be so try and get some over the bump ones or mothercare do some good under the bump ones that are very low and quite loose and these were perfect for me second time around. you will want to try and get as much air to your wound as possible so I just used to roll down my leggings when I was lying down and then roll them up for a bit of support when I started to walk around a bit.
