Could I really be feeling movement at 11weeks?

Over the last few nights, I've been noticing that I can feel a funny twitchy, bubble-popping like sensation in what feels like where my uterus must be. I lie on my tummy to sleep and this is the only time I can feel it. I'm 11 weeks and this is my first pregnancy.

Maybe it's just wind?! Pretty certain I've not felt this kind of feeling before...

Yes! Smile

I thought the same around that stage and the sonographer told me under no uncertain terms, it wouldn't be movement I could feel as it was far too early with it being my first. Then when I eventually started feeling movement at 20+1 I realised she was right and it was probably just wind.

But we are all different so you just never know! I'm sure someone else will come along who has felt that early before.

bigbadbarry · 07/04/2014 08:57

I did :)

inmybelly · 07/04/2014 09:02

I guess I could be over analysing the feeling. But it's a strange, small twitchy/bubbly feeling in that place, where wind is kind of a bigger sensation that moves around right?

Still, it's nice to imagine it is the baby either way.

Roll on the scan next week!!!

This is my second and I felt movement from 12 weeks, told sonographer and she though it was because my womb was an odd shape and room was tight in there so felt it, highly plausable,

ithoughtofitfirst · 07/04/2014 09:58

I think i can feel movement and i'm 12 weeks. I was exactly 16 weeks last pregnancy but this time i recognise the sensation. Just every so often i feel the little fluttering bubbly type of thing

ChicaMomma · 07/04/2014 10:07

Are you very thin?

I definitely felt movements from 13/14 weeks. Like a popcorn popping sensation.

Foxeym · 07/04/2014 10:14

Yes you can, with DC3 I felt him from 12 weeks, it was every time I ate something sweet and I knew the feeling from before.

Sunnysummer · 07/04/2014 10:32

Very unlikely with your first unless you are very thin with the placenta in the right place, your baby is only 1.5 inches and 1/4 oz (about 7 grams, or not much more than an earring!).

But it is very exciting either way! Congratulations! Smile

Poppiesway · 07/04/2014 10:42

Where do you think you uterus is op?
I'm in agreeance with offside and her sonographer.. (As I am also a sonographer)
I only ask as most people point to where they are getting pain and tell us it's their ovaries.. Except their ovaries are not where they think they are..
Also most people think were going to scan up high in their tummy for the dating scan and then are surprised when we scan just above the pubic hair line.. They think they've been feeling it up above the belly button already...
At 11 weeks the baby is only around approx 6-7cm long from head to bum.. In reality it's not yet strong enough for you to feel it moving in there..

Boogles91 · 07/04/2014 12:25

Yeas it mostlikely is :) i first felt lil our lil man from 13wks and remember it feeling like this. I knew it was wind as i know that feeling, and as the weeks went by they got more regular and stronger :D the first real big movement i felt was about 15wks my tummy felt like it was vibrating all of sudden for few seconds. He was obviously having a few somersault moments in there :) its so exciting isnt it? X

inmybelly · 07/04/2014 12:27

It feels like it's behind my bladder. Where I get period pain.

I'm probably just over analysing the wind!

Wasnt windi ment to of said lol. Also im very slim and midwife said this is probably why

squizita · 07/04/2014 12:36

At 11 weeks, the bones of the fetus are so very small and weak and it doesn't move very much ... this was what I was told by my consultant. Just as Poppies says.

Sorry to sound a downer but from the other side... I've had a really insensitive "friend" confidently tell me they felt movement from 10 weeks etc'.
I am a high risk pregnancy and have not felt movement yet (17 weeks). This caused me acute worry and distress until I looked into it both through reading up and asking experts (consultant, midwife and sonographer). I have had scans (last one 4 days ago) and all is well - but told not to expect anything until 18+ weeks.
One exclaimed "Oh these pregnancy boards, all these women telling everyone they feel movement before 14 weeks and getting annoyed when we say it's wind... causes a lot of needless worry and phonecalls to us!!" So evidently my reaction wasn't a one-off.

inmybelly · 07/04/2014 21:29

I was only asking out of interest really Squizita, not as a matter of concern. Sorry to hear you've been feeling anxious about this subject. I would totally agree that Internet forums probably aren't the best place for information if you're very worried about something.

It's great to hear so many others are feeling this funny twitchy, bubbly feeling. Even if it's not the baby, it's fun to imagine his little legs kicking!

Lots of you have said it's more likely if you're very thin... That's definitely not me! And to be honest (TMI) I'm pretty windy lately! Haha :)

I felt movement at just before 12 weeks with my second (16 with my first). I told the sonographer the baby was moving when she scanned me and it was. That same movement continued right until it changed to proper kicking.

MrsBungle · 07/04/2014 21:34

I wasn't thin either. Obviously no one could feel it from the outside (through the fat!) but I could feel it on the inside!

Poshsausage · 08/04/2014 04:41

I could when it was twins !

oohdaddypig · 08/04/2014 04:48

Absolutely. I felt my second at 10 weeks. No one believed me so I just enjoyed it Grin

WTFlike · 08/04/2014 09:33

It felt like a butterfly was tickling me. At about 11 weeks.

squizita · 08/04/2014 15:59

Don't worry- as I mentioned I get all my medical advice from some top notch professionals and reading up, and it was a real-life friend who said the comment.
I just find it a bit Hmm as this seems to be an internet-generated thing (from what I have heard) ...people read about 'definitely' feeling movement from a 3cm fetus without bones in a grapefruit sized uterus and almost everyone projects that it's happening to them. The healthcare professionals noted an 'expectation' which has grown in recent years and it out of line with reality.

mrsnec · 08/04/2014 16:12

squizita, as one of those individuals who is a little naive and easily influenced by what I read online as well as being paranoid can I just say I find your words comforting and reassuring. I don't want to take anything away from the others but can see how it can be a worry to some I would love to have felt something by now!

squizita · 08/04/2014 16:26

I am feeling something now (17 weeks) but it's just tickles and butterflies. :) My RL friend is very insensitive (she's nice just foot in mouth), it was as much the way she said it as anything! If it's about 5% or so of women who feel anything that early, lucky them but 95% of people have no cause for alarm! :)

neversleepagain · 08/04/2014 20:50

I could feel popping sensations before my 13 week scan, it was very strange. DH said it was wind, I agreed with him.

Found out we were having twins at 13+1. That popping sensation got stronger and stronger as the weeks went on so it was definitely not wind.

Perhaps it is twins :) When you are pregnant with twins you have double the blood flow and double the water in your body compared to a single pregnancy so you would definitely notice things moving that didn't move before.

VJONES1985 · 08/04/2014 21:16

I first felt the fluttery movements at 16 weeks and kicking started at 20.
