I started leaking water around 9 and more over the past two hours. Clear liquid, no smell or blood. Haven't seen any mucus yet. Haven't called the hospital yet. Should I?I have a midwifed appointment tomorrow afternoon..should I just wait until then?

Don't worry about induction! My last was induced and the whole thing was over from start to finish in 8 hours. I also only had gas and air. You'll be grand. Good luck!! xxx

Hi Countdown, a similar thing happened with one of mine only prematurely. 48 hrs after my waters broke I was only 3cm so they went for induction. On the advice of the midwife I went straight for the syntocinin drip and had mobile epidural in place prior to the drip. It was fantastic, DC was born smoothly 4 hours later only in pain at the end (I stopped topping up the epidural when they told me I was 8cm to make sure that the second stage of labour went smoothly). No stitches no forceps no worries!

I felt like you though - as soon as they mentioned induction I assumed long labour/emergency CS/forceps etc. In reality, your body is already starting labour as your waters have broken so doctors are more augmenting labour than inducing it iyswim.

Misty9 · 27/03/2014 19:24

Try not to worry OP. I had exact same situation with ds - waters went (hind waters it turned out) and planned hb went out the window Confused when nothing else happened and I was induced 36 hrs later. Straight onto drip, fore waters broken, 2.5hrs established labour and 3hrs pushing the little sod out no pain relief (don't like feeling sick) except tens at start.

2nd degree tear and stitches but honestly I didn't particularly notice except when she stabbed a non anaesthetised bit of my fanny and don't remember the recovery being bad.

So it doesn't have to be like the horror stories you can read. Good luck :)

CountdowntoSummer · 27/03/2014 22:47

Thank you Junior and Misty for the positive stories. I'm in the hospital hooked upto a monitor. No pains as yet. Been told that if I don't go into labour by this time tomorrow I will be induced.

Try & get some last min acupuncture if you get out of hospital. Same thing happened to me,was worried about induction. Had half an hour session contractions started a hour later - 3 1/2 hours later I was cuddling my newborn.
Good luck, you'l be a mummy tomorrow - very exciting GrinGrinGrin

CountdowntoSummer · 28/03/2014 01:26

Back at home. If nothing happens by tomorrow night they would induce me. I've tried climbing up and down the stairs, going on all fours and generally been active the whole day. Will try al theses tomorrow not sure what else to do.

Thank you Justhayley- will see if I can get an appointment

Hope all goes well. I ended up with a forceps delivery a week ago today - not what I had planned but I now have a lovely baby girl and all is fine. Good luck.

Dillydollydaydream · 28/03/2014 03:15

Try and get some rest. Hopefully things will kick off before you go for induction.

lyns31 · 28/03/2014 03:28

Good luck countdown. Hope all goes smoothly. :) Quite jealous as won't meet my little one for 19 weeks yet.

Whereisegg · 28/03/2014 09:41

At the risk of sounding incredibly creepy, try a bit of nipple stimulation.

monim1 · 28/03/2014 10:19

I think you should go to a hospital. Don't waste your time.It could be harmful.

CountdowntoSummer · 28/03/2014 12:28

Hi all, wanted to give an update. I've been booked in for an induction at 9 tonight at Watford General. I'm petrified and really upset. They told that my husband cannot be with me until I get transferred over to the delivery suite..which hassde it worse. I've never been so scared in my life... Every horrible scenario is going thorough my head.

Thank you all for all your advice and giving me positive stories.

Where is- I've tried that. Will keep trying everything I can think of until 9 tonight.

Please don't worry. Many many labours are induced and only a small number end up with interventions.
It's easy to say but try to keep calm (stress can slow contractions) and keep an open mind. All that matters is getting baby here safely.
Good luck, you'll be fine.

EST0106 · 28/03/2014 12:40

You don't have to be induced if you don't want to at this stage. NICE guidelines say you can safely wait 72 hours before induction. I didn't know this with DD and was booked to be induced after 48 hours, luckily went into labour a few hours before and had the water birth, no intervention I wanted, so don't panic yet!!

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 28/03/2014 12:43

Good luck Countdown.Thanks

tumbletime · 28/03/2014 13:03

Good luck! You're wee one will be with you soon :)

Best of luck!

Stockhausen · 28/03/2014 13:15

Please don't panic, relax & pamper yourself, low lighting, warm bath etc... to get the feel good hormones flowing.

Good luck, and induction isn't always horrible... especially if your body is already gearing up for it, I know people who have only needed a pessary to start them off.

And it's a cliche... but when you have that baby in your arms, how they arrived won't be important.

NakedMum33and3rd · 28/03/2014 13:28

Hi countdown! Thinking of you!!!

I had the exact same thing happen with DS at watford. They were gonna induce me but he came of his own accord 3 hrs before induction was to start! Fingers crossed for you.
Keep us updated!

ThefutureMrsTatum · 28/03/2014 13:32

I had exactly the same in December with DC3. My waters went on the Sat morning at 5am, then nothing! I waited 48 hours to go into labour and panicked about being induced as I had heard horror stories. I did end up being induced, even though my contractions had started and it was no more painful than my other non-induced labours, and the drip sped things up incredibly, I went from 5cm to delivering in 40 mins, so I was actually quite grateful for it.

as another poster said try nipple stimulation, also clitoral stimulation (at the risk of sounding even more creepy!!) as it does work. Your body will release oxytocin which can help the uterine contractions. Good luck witth everything and please don't panic.

CountdowntoSummer · 28/03/2014 15:05

Thanks all. I've been in a long walkk. Tried both stimulations today morning. Going home in a bit to get some sleep (didn't sleep at all last night) and will try again when home.

Stock- I need a drip as my waters gone, although still dripping and they won't give a pessary due to increased infection issues.

I'll keep everyone updated.
