Is driving me mad. Is literally all day and I'm also really battling with food. The only thing I can eat / drink at the mo is milk. Anything else makes me feel really sick. Any tips? I've tried eating rich tea biccies, and at first that helped but now they just make me feel sick. It's so exhausting! Happy to be pregnant and can't wait for baby but not sure how much more of this I can take!! I'm only 7 weeks!! X

P.s. prior to pregnancy I was a health freak eater, but fruit and veg made me hurl! Think it's more acidic...

Don't worry about what's healthy food for now, just get something g to fuel you. Cxxcxx

JustMarriedBecca · 28/02/2014 20:53

Literally typing with head resting on the towel rail at the side of the toilet where I've been for the last three hours.

Bread cereal and plain boiled rice rice rice. Plain pasta. An unbuttered scone if I want anything sweet. But funny because first 5 weeks when was smugly declaring had no sickness I couldn't stop eating chilli. I find I can eat loads in the morning and lunch but not in the evening. Anything citrusy or the smell of citrus (hell even the word citrus) makes me dry heave.

Water.

Someone on here recommended salt and vinegar crisps. Walkers don't work but M & S twirls do the job a treat.

Kels13 · 28/02/2014 21:11

Glad to hear it's helping swimmingmom! Keep eating!! I definitely endorse travel sickness bands. I think they've really helped. Still feel like crap though. People at work keep telling me I look exhausted . Can't wait till I can tell everyone then at least they'll understand that feeling sick all day can make you stop caring about how you look! I feel like such a muppet for moaning, I know it's something we all have to get through but it is horrid!!! Nice to know we're not alone! Xx

Never get hungry or overtired. BUT , the thing thats changed my (pregnancy) life, is vitamin B6. Recommended by GP. It's massively reduced my nausea.

Pinkandwhite · 28/02/2014 21:17

I think weeks 7 and 8 were my worst weeks. It definitely got significantly better in week 9 so there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The things that worked for me were oat cakes, crisps, crackers and toast. I can't be sure but I started taking a highish dose of vitamin B6 and I also think that helped.

devonsmummy · 28/02/2014 21:32

I suffered with all day nausea up until week 20.
You have my sympathy , it's horrible.
I survived on cod from chipshop minus the batter (I couldn't stomach cooking smells so barely cooked!)
Salted peanuts
Sips of bottled water
Chocolate buttons

icklekid · 01/03/2014 05:32

21 weeks still sick every day on medication (tried stopping taking them one day last week and much much worse!

Food that helps:
Salt and vinegar crisps
Ice lollies
Cornflakes/ rice krispies
Plain biscuits

That's been my main diet- I can only eat a main meal at lunch time eve is out as when I feel worst. Accepting and snacking are key to sanity!

woodyrhoda04 · 01/03/2014 07:23

You have my sympathy. Feeling awful! Pregnancy no. 4 and never experienced anything like this in previous pregnancies. I'm really hoping the constant nausea will end soon. I'm 9 weeks and feeling really sorry for myself! I'm going to speak to GP about B6 so thanks for the tip.:-(

livingzuid · 01/03/2014 08:58

Have you been to see your gp? Severe nausea can lead to dehydration - you don't have to be visiting to have hyperemesis sadly :( there is medication available which is safe in pregnancy. If it persists and you don't get better do speak to your doctor and join us sickies on the hyperemesis thread :)

I second diet coke which was amazing. Still is. Sometimes the only thing I kept down all day when it was at its worst.

livingzuid · 01/03/2014 09:00

Also check which pregnancy vitamins you are on. Different brands can make you sick.

SwimmingMom · 01/03/2014 09:29

Living - how do we find out which pregnancy multivitamin can cause nausea?

Am using pregnacare...is that know to cause/aggravate nausea?

travispickles · 01/03/2014 09:41

Sparking water- anything fizzy really.

livingzuid · 01/03/2014 09:48

It differs for everyone. I just use a cheap supermarket brand which works fine. The best thing is to have a Google and see what people are saying. I do remember something about pregnancare but it's not available where I live so I kind of ignored it! I think there were some threads somewhere about it as well. It really is individual and the majority of ladies are fine. But it's just worth looking at to see if a change might help.

Kels13 · 02/03/2014 11:36

Ugh... That is all. Today is a bad day!

Multi vits with iron in can make you feel sick (even in a non-pregnant day) so have a look at the back of the packet. I have failed dismally to find any pregnancy ones without iron and the non preg ones have vit A in so are a no-go too. Doc can prescribe vitamins B, C and D if you're not managing to eat anything and folate by itself should be fine. I managed folate and water for about the first 22 weeks and not a lot else. Didn't even do the folate after 13 or so weeks. Grim grim grim. Was cutting lettuce for tea the other night and the smell of it made me gag. Didn't even know lettuce had a smell! But on the upside, even though I look like a scarecrow (scare husband too, but he's too polite to say), the little wriggler is doing just fine. Babies are amazingly good parasites and can leach any amount of goodness out of you. Don't get dehydrated though. Any worries on that score, straight to gp or midwife.

Sometimesbrunette · 05/03/2014 09:06

I could have written this post. Am 7 weeks today and feel so bloody rough! Nausea and plain ill, like I've been partying.

Cuckoo82 · 05/03/2014 10:13

I second the eating little and often advice - I had constant nausea from about week 7 to week 18 and found eating something every hour helped - mostly plain things like cereal bars or digestive biscuits. Things with sugar in seemed to help a lot and if I got really bad chocolate sorted me out the fastest.

I'm now 32 weeks and still start every day with a hot milky drink like hot chocolate, it really settles my stomach before my drive to work.

Travel bands are also good, I still wear mine in the car.

Groovester · 05/03/2014 10:20

6 weeks gone. Currently surviving on satsumas and toast...

SwimmingMom · 05/03/2014 11:15

Lately I find that bagels help settle my stomach a lot better than other things, maybe something to do with fermented yeast.

Nausea is under control with frequent eating & travel bands - thanks to valuable tips from this post.

Currently down with a viral so nausea has taken a backseat on priority.

I do find I can smell things most people can't. DD uses Johnson's bath gel & it drives me mad! Sadly my main vices of coffee & cake put me off the most. Hmm

Kels13 · 05/03/2014 18:16

Ah ladies this really is horrid isn't it. My mum broke the news to me the other day that she suffered throughout all three pregnancies for the entire duration. Not sure if I could cope! At 8.5 weeks now and I'm getting worse. Sick a few times a day and unless I eat constantly and wear my travel sickness bands I'm close to useless. Also asleep by 8pm each day. Convinced I'm having a girl, apparently they suck your looks from you and I have never looked so shit!! Haha! Nice to talk to people who understand! X

Have you tried baked potatoes or mash? My friend recommended it after her pregnancy. Something to do with the potassium (which you can also get in coconut water - really good for you in pregnancy).

Kels13 · 07/03/2014 14:07

Hi Julie, I have yep. They were all I could face a few weeks in so I think I overdid it with them. Now they turn my stomach :( Just had some gnocchi though which went down well - hopefully! New craze! X

OP posts:
SwimmingMom · 07/03/2014 15:01

Julie - I can't stand coconut water but potassium is also available in the form of organic beet root juice (James White). I do find it very soothing, so you do have a good point.

Kels13 · 08/03/2014 18:16

Rant begins. Husband just told me to fight the sickness as it's taking over our life. Man has a death wish... He wouldn't last a day feeling like this. Dick... Rant over.

Kill him. Nobody will blame you. Can you vomit? Could you do it on him?

Am now eating big breakfast and basically nothing else. Hot dog sausages sometimes ok, milkshake good, orange juice in the morning nice, hot chocolate at night is nice too. Nothing solid after five or so and I'm basically ok, if still sickly. Found I do better if I take my prenatal vitamin in the morning rather than the evening.
