guff how exciting!!!!! Not too much longer until you get to meet your LO. I've spent the past hour reading birth stories and have been sobbing my eyes out... I so want our bubba to arrive now but he has a lot more cooking to do!

Just catching up on the thread - after a lovely weekend where my mum and sister threw me a baby shower and my goodness did we get spoilt! Totally overwhelmed by how generous our friends and family have been...

MissM you are a superhero! Your little man sounds like he has inherited his mum's fighting spirit. I hope you'll be home with him in next to no time. I know every single baby is very different but I was born very prem weighing in at just 1060g in deepest Africa 31 years ago with kidneys that didn't function to begin with - and I'm still here mostly normal and about to have a LO of my own... I hope you are coping ok with everything xx

Suzy I'm so terribly sorry, I hope you are getting lots of RL support from your friends and family and the docs are able to help you find out why this is happening Thanks

squizita · 03/03/2014 11:55

Miss FX for your little one. One of my RL BFs had her 1st at 28 weeks, like yours he did well in the SBU and is now a cheeky little monkey thriving 6 year old. Praying the story ends the same for you. :)

Worried sick as had that tiny amount of spotting Sat am, was sick Sat eve ... and have not been sick since. I know it tails off at this stage and I am tired/swollen boobed but with the spotting it's scaring me. FX writing this results the the usual i.e. byebye lunch as soon as I press return...

Lottystar · 03/03/2014 13:31

Good stuff Guff, I hope it all progresses well! Bouncing bubba soon Smile

Fedup, I had a similar scare last week with my ds 1 who is nearly 3. He had a bit if a temp, sore throat and fine red rash on his face, neck and torso. Worried me silly but Dr said it was just another virus not slapped cheek. Still a bit concerned as the Doctors seem to say general virus for everything these days and I'm pretty sure I've never had slapped cheek before.

My spotting has completely gone now so getting a tiny bit excited about 12 week scan Fri Smile

MrsGiraffe12 · 03/03/2014 13:38

Just a little rant - the baby names threat is MEAN :-( asked opinion on the few baby names we've narrowed down (yes yes at 13 weeks lol) and got lots of sarky comments. If someone doesn't like something why can't they just said "I don't like it" rather than "hideous" "vile" and "awful" :-(

LondonJen · 03/03/2014 13:41

Yey Guff!

Squiz if it's what it takes to make you feel better, I hope you have indeed heaved your lunch up

Lovely to hear a bit of excitement creeping in Lotty

I just came to write down this anxiety and leave it behind: Felt some actual appetite for lunch. Hurray! Not just needing to eat to stave off the horrid hunger sickness, but genuine desire for food. 10 mins later it occurred to me this might be a bad thing. But am so breathless today that I am not tooo fixated on it. Anyway. It bothered me so I thought I would come and get it off my chest. I'm pretty sure there's a symptoms-can-ease-and-come-and-go fishslap with my name on it.

fedupofrainydays · 03/03/2014 14:27

OMG guff that's exciting!!! Yay!!

Thanks ladies for the notes re slapped cheek. It's one of those very common but very scary for preg women (I guess like chicken pox if you haven't had it). My mum has never heard of it so also pretty sure I've not had it either...
Glad that people caught it and their baby was ok. I guess I'm just so scared because of what happened to my friend. Oh well, doctor just thought I was a crazy paranoid mum.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 03/03/2014 15:04

GO GUFF! I'm not jealous at all, oh no! Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Envy
Jbrd I think it's quite normal for men to be like this. I was discussing this with DP yesterday. It's so hard for men, especially in the early days, to get involved because there's nothing to see and nothing to do. Even now my DP is a bit vague. I know from experience that he is a totally different person once he has a baby to play with. I just hope it's soon because he's starting to look a bit stressed about it all now. Confused

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 03/03/2014 15:38

MrsGiraffe the baby names thread is how I chose my babies name! I went on there with my choice, asked what they thought, everyone hated it, though it was vile, awful, you can't do that to a child etc etc so that's the name were sticking with! Olivier btw hardly hitler!! I like it, dh likes it it'll be shortened to Ollie which my parents like and the il, well I push it out I get naming rights!!

London more than happy to give a fish slap!! In my expiearience until a miscarriage has happened symptoms don't tend to just disappear, they may stagnate but I've not expiearienced them to disappear until pregnancy has been completed.

Alb1 · 03/03/2014 15:50

MrsG I agree they are really mean on there! Although I suspect il end up on there at some point too, we have slightly awkward middle names to deal with, well the girls middle name is rose which is nice, but I'm not a fan of the cutsie names that are really popular at the min (I.e. Lily-rose, Ella-Mai, generally short double barrelled cute names) I think they sound lovely there just not for me, so so far we have nothing, but we have a long time to decide yet luckily!

Guff I hope things are moving well for u!

fedupofrainydays · 03/03/2014 15:55

I just had a look to see how mean... And people are really mean!!! But I guess if everyone liked the same it would be one boring world out there. What I hate is when you think your name isn't that common and then it turns out it made some odd comeback that year....!

JBrd · 03/03/2014 16:32

Go guff Hope the little one gets a move on pronto now...

squiz Did you lose your lunch?!

Aaahhh, names, the ever tricky subject... I completely agree that some people are really mean on there, but then again, some people come up with the strangest names (there recently was a thread from a woman who wanted to name her DS 'Aryan' Shock!).

Like in real life, I'd say keep the name to yourself until the baby is here! Then people can slag it off behind your back because no one can say anything anymore Grin
I learnt that lesson when pg with DS and discussing potentials with the PILs - they found something wrong with literally every name we had on the list, and I'll never forget MIL's cat-bum-face...

Thanks for the replies re DHs/DPs being detached - I completely agree that it is most likely a coping mechanism... I think I was just a bit hurt by the fact that he didn't immediately say 'Of course I will come to the 12-week scan!'. Because I will need him there, regardless of the outcome.
Well, I guess I need to communicate that more clearly, he's only a man, after all Wink

squizita · 03/03/2014 16:33

London feeling reassuringly queazy. All I had for lunch was veg n rice too. :)

Emki · 03/03/2014 16:39

miss Thinking of you - I know a 26 year old man who was born at 26 weeks, and he's a big strapping lad now - hope you're okay x

Suzy so sorry - hope you are getting lots of support in RL

So I had two tests last week at 28 wk check up - negative to diabetes but positive to Group B Strep - I know its really normal and nothing to worry about - BUT I'M WORRYING! Has anyone else had the test? The only reason I was tested was because when I miscarried (20 wks) I was tested for all sorts of things to find the cause and I tested positive for GBS.

guff this is soooo exciting! Can't believe it - what a journey - especially as we were all on the TTC after mc thread - Can't wait to hear your news! xxx

fedupofrainydays · 03/03/2014 16:48

What is group b strep?

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 03/03/2014 16:55

Emki the strep b is unlikely to have caused you to miscarry at 20 weeks (unless your waters ha broken early)

Strep b is a harmless bacteria that lives inside many many many women (me included!) it comes and goes throughout life but once you have it, it won't go away permantly!

Strep b is however fatal to a baby. Whilst in the water sack baby is 100% protected, it's once waters have broken things become dangerous.

With dd1 I tested positive. My waters broke at 2am I was in hospital on iv antibiotics and had been given induction pessary by 3am, every 4 hours I was given iv ab's (I had to remind them) and the induction drip was started at 5am. By 7pm she was born!

They will want to get baby out ASAP once your waters have broken and will be hoping to leave them intact as long as possible.

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 03/03/2014 16:57

I should say with dd2 I tested negative so wasn't treated and with this one will be tested around 34ish weeks

Alb1 · 03/03/2014 18:46

Iv never heard of slapped cheek or strep b :-/ gona avoid googling tho cos I no il regret it if I start lol.

Has anyone else struggled with crazy thirst n dry mouth in pregnancy? It's a constant battle to stay hydrated (and has been for about 6 weeks now) n it's getting worse, if I don't wake up regularly in the night to drink water I wake up feeling too dehydrated to get dressed, very annoying. I'm very greatful at the min as I'm realising what a lovely text book pregnancy I'm having up to now jus no I'm gona be ginxing it by saying that but still I can't help wondering if these things are normal

JBrd I think ur proly right about the name thing, wev agreed not to tell anyone in RL so that people can't ruin the name, might come up with some funny fake names tho to spread around just for fun Grin

LondonJen · 03/03/2014 18:52

Oh you are brave venturing on the names boards MrsG! I find it odd people have such strong reactions, there's lots of names I don't love but I hardly think any are truely hideous. 'Aryan' bit scary mind!

Jbrd I don't blame you wanting a bigger more embracing reaction. My dp can be a bit of a Sheldon (off the big bang) and just not 'get' emotional (normal!) stuff a lot of the time. I do find if I tell him things factually, without emotion, if poss, he grasps it much better and often then surprises me with his (better) reaction! I know it can be annoying to temper yourself but might it be worth presenting your harmony case with facts/figures/graphs? Sorry to go to stereotypes I do realise not all blokes are like mine!

Ah Squiz good news! Do you think they can tell at your 12 week scan how much the placenta has taken over and whether you'll therefore stop feeling the quease? Or am I being too hopeful?

Have been feeling crap all afternoon. Had to take paracetamol for headache. Had headaches before mmc Sad so scares me. But clinging on to hope I think I might just be getting another cold or the same one's got worse. Felt sick all afternoon tho and back to forcing food down so not as rattled as I could be.

LondonJen · 03/03/2014 18:55

ps Jbrd 'cat-bum face' made me chortle Grin DP's mum has one of those

LondonJen · 03/03/2014 19:02

Emki all I know of strepB is my SIL had that too (with 1st newphew not one who had slapped cheek, my poor SIL!) and she had antibiotic drip whilst in labour. But she didn't need too for nephew number 2 and had a home birth for him. Both babies born healthy and fine, sorry don't know more details.

Alb I feel for you being thirsty esp at night sounds frustrating, not had that myself, sounds normal enough to me?

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 03/03/2014 20:21

Emki GBS is very common. There's a brilliant GBS society with a very informative Website.
As you tested + in your last pg you will very probably be offered antibiotics in labour. I tested + last year during some non pg gynae problems and am having to argue for the antibiotics as my last pg wasn't affected. (it was 15 years
ago!!) But I have no doubt I'll get them.
You fit into NHS policy so should be fine. AFAIK GBS doesn't affect pg, but can cause problems which are potentially dangerous if the baby contracts it during labour, but there is also nothing to say you will actually have an active infection during labour. Its a very transient thing.
Take a look at the website, its really good. And try not to worry. x

In other news I started my Mat leave today yay!!!

Good luck Guff ya jammy sausage! Cxx

SuzyBean · 03/03/2014 20:37

Thank you for all you lovely words, you lot are a fab bunch. I had my scan this morning and the good news is that I have pretty much completely miscarried now so at least it's nearly over.

I'm sat in the bath drinking a proper beer and feeling ok. I'm sad but I know it won't be long before I'll be chin up, tits out and ttc again.

I'm going to hang around for a few days - I need to see these babies arrive! Then hopefully, I'll be back on this thread and see the rest of you guys sometime soon. Smile

fedupofrainydays · 03/03/2014 21:04

suzy you sound amazingly calm about it all. I'm so sorry this has happened to you but I am glad you can see yourself being posifrickintive and getting back on the chin up and tits out with TITH ttc action soon... I for sure hope so see you again here very soon.

alb I also am very thirsty - but oddly only afternoon onwards and all night. Not in the morning as drinking makes me feel sick then. I can't win! But the drinking makes me wee snd I go at least 3 times a night.

Right... Off to sleep. Scan day tomorrow... And feeling nervous.

Hope it's going ok guff - thinking of you!
