Why are nursing vests so expensive!!!

I've just been having a look at nursing vests and was gobsmacked at the price of them.

Aren't they just a normal vest top with clips on the straps? They seem to be £15-£20 each which seems ridiculous to me.

And another thing is nowhere seems to do small sizes in them - I don't think a baggy nursing vest will be much good.

Rant over Smile

I used to wear two primark vests. One to keep my tum etc covered while I popped the other one up?

Cupcake11 · 06/02/2014 17:03

Oh good idea! I must sound really tight but it just seems like one of those things they bump up the price because you have no choice but to buy them.

Not at all! I'm the same! Likewise maternity tights, just buy a size or two up and wear back to front!

Cupcake11 · 06/02/2014 17:16

Ha - I love it! Thanks for the tips Thanks

If you wear a stroppy vest you can just slip the strap off your shoulder for feeding.

callamia · 06/02/2014 17:18

They're no bloody good either. Normal vests are fine - and if you have to, put a slit down the front for easy access.

Fairypants · 06/02/2014 17:18

I meant strappy obviously!
Have a vision of my teen dd's vests nowGrin

Ginmakesmecry · 06/02/2014 17:20

H and M have a two pack for £14.99

Cupcake11 · 06/02/2014 17:21

I was thinking about it being a pain if you had a jumper over the vest put as I'm due the end of April hopefully I'll be able to get away with it!

Thanks Gin, I saw those but the smallest they do is size 10-12. I'm a size 6-8 so I didn't know if they'd be baggy and unsupportive - I'll probably give them a go though if I don't get on with a normal vest.

Stretch strapped vest tops are the way forward. Mine were from New Look and cheap as chips. I wore them like a camisole rather than my only top (so unless it was really hot I would have vest, t-shirt and cardie).

With a stretchy strap you can pull that whole side of the top down and tuck it under your boob/bra without moving any other clothing. Pull up other top to feed. Tummy is covered by vest (no nasty drafts!). Sorted.

And so cheap that you can have loads of colours.

loopylouu · 06/02/2014 17:26

I was just looking at these and thinking what a rip off!

PenguinsDontEatKale · 06/02/2014 17:27

Like this. Seem to remember that they were on multi-buy 3 for 2 or something when I got mine too. So I got something like 6 vests for £12.

JanePurdy · 06/02/2014 17:29

Primark vests with boob hole cut in them & another top over.

loopylouu · 06/02/2014 17:32

What do you do when you have huge boobs though?

Currently 32 weeks and I am a G cup. I have no clue what to do re feeding and what to wear.

highlove · 06/02/2014 17:38

Mamas and Papas have them on 3 for 2 at the moment - I got 3 for £30. Still not cheap for a bloody vest though!

PenguinsDontEatKale · 06/02/2014 17:41

I was a G cup and had those vests. Doesn't matter if they are a bit baggy or gapey as an under layer.

TheRaniOfYawn · 06/02/2014 17:47

The Bravado ones cost a lot but have a built in bra and are very sturdy. I still wear mine regularly and they are 7 years old now.

Sammie101 · 06/02/2014 18:44

I just wear a stretchy £3 primark vest under a normal top, then pull it down under my boobs! Very easy Smile

smudgedhorizon · 09/02/2014 20:01

Yep primark all the way. £2 each stretch spaghetti strap vests in loads of funky colours. just pull it down over your boobs and away you go!

Kefybaby · 09/02/2014 20:10

2 primark vests. Pull top one up, bottom one down: job done. (Or primark vest with any other loose top on top.)

FreeButtonBee · 09/02/2014 20:22

Get some from uniqlo, if cold, get the heat tech ones, if heading into summer, get the cooling ones. They are uber stretchy so you can tuck it under your boob and drop the cup of your bra. I managed to tandem feed twins wearing mine for a year and they were still in good nick (if a bit bobbly). The cooling ones are great as they wick the sweat away (and believe me feeding twins last summer was a bloody hot business,) they are really thin so add no bulk but are enough to cover the tummy.

Ginformation · 09/02/2014 20:28

I have stupidly huge boobs and I wear nursing bra, stretchy long line vest (M&S do them in underwear section, v good quality, 2 for £8), followed by a normal top. So I pull up outer top, unclip bra and pull down vest top. Discreet and can wear pretty much any of my normal clothes (which after several months of maternity clothes is a relief).

Ginformation · 09/02/2014 20:30

these vests are great

SweetPeaPods · 09/02/2014 20:32

The h&m ones are pretty good and reasonable priced. Don't waste your money on mothercare ones.
I never got the top under a top thing, much easier to wear a top suitable for feeding.
