Its been a while since I did the whole nappy thing, do we still use this stuff and which do you use?

I use Sudocrem, but only if area looks a little red. Otherwise, just wet-wipe and change.

whereisshe · 25/01/2014 23:33

Nop

whereisshe · 25/01/2014 23:36

Oops don't know what happened there.

We use weleda nappy ointment but only when there is redness, mostly don't need anything.

RubyGoat · 25/01/2014 23:36

On

RubyGoat · 25/01/2014 23:40

Aargh! Damned phone. Anyway...

None of the above. Bepanthen for ordinary use, Metanium yellow cream if there is bad nappy rash.

Sudocrem is difficult to clean off, & doesn't let the skin breathe properly.

RubyGoat · 25/01/2014 23:42

And net

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/01/2014 23:44

Nothing for ordinary use.
Tiny bit of sudocrem/canestan if needed.

RubyGoat · 25/01/2014 23:46

Never use Vaseline! You may as well put glue on there. It totally stops the skin from breathing, & AFAIK petroleum jelly based products actually inhibit the skin from producing it's own natural oils.

FobblyWoof · 25/01/2014 23:47

With DD we used bepanthen for when she was sore. Where she slept through from an early age we also put some on her before bedtime otherwise she'd be sore by morning. The rest of the time we just made sure she wasn't too wet from the wipes and didn't use anything.

With DS we're using sudocrem as it's much easier to apply to testicles than bepanthen! Again, we're just using when he's looks a little red and he's not old enough to be sleeping through yet.

AShowerOfBastards · 25/01/2014 23:48

Nothing for day to day changes, leave appt off for l

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 25/01/2014 23:49

I used Johnson's nappy rash cream for a few days when my DS got nappy rash from teething.

Don't use anything on a day to day basis, just wipes.

snoggle · 25/01/2014 23:50

Depends on baby. DS1 was very prone to nappy rash so used bepanthen every change, sudocreme if sore. DS2 had a bum of steel so just a blob of sudocreme occasionally if eg teething

AShowerOfBastards · 25/01/2014 23:50

Arg stupid phone.

I meant: leave nappy off until the skin is dry from wiping etc and nappy rash will be less likely. If a little red I used/use sudocrem but I don't think anything beats Metanium (the yellow stuff) for an actual rash.

AShowerOfBastards · 25/01/2014 23:51

Grin at "bum of steel"

Mikkii · 25/01/2014 23:51

Sudocrem normally, metanium yellow for nappy rash.

Still use sudocrem loads now even though no nappies.

perfectstorm · 26/01/2014 00:12

DS has really reactive skin - can only cope with a handful of brands for shampoos, laundry detergents, nappies, etc and had bad nappy rash. He reacted really badly to all conventional bum creams but thrived on the poncey newborn-gifted Neals Yard Baby Barrier cream. It has no petroleum based oils in at all, maybe that's why? I'm not that comfortable buying from them as their ethics worry me, but that stuff works, and after I'd seen the nappy rash Bepathen/Metanium/Sudocrem could worsen on my son's bum, I didn't really care who made the solution.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 26/01/2014 00:30

Thanks guys. I always used something but Im sure that I read somewhere that its not really the done thing. I might just get some sudocreme in just in case and see what develops.

Coconut oil!

VestaCurry · 26/01/2014 04:23

A little Drapolene usually and metanium for nappy rash.

MummyBeerest · 26/01/2014 04:37

Coconut oil here too. But I use cloth so can't use zinc oxides.

For disposables, Desitin is amazing but smells awful.

redcaryellowcar · 26/01/2014 06:35

bepanthen is good for every day use as not mediated. it works brilliantly for ds who has eczema prone skin, but i think you will find other people swear by different brands, as i suppose different things work for different babies.

Franchini · 26/01/2014 07:27

Sudocreme all the time. Metanium of it gets a bit sore!

slimyak · 26/01/2014 07:52

Nothing as a general, bepanthen for sore and metanium for nasty teething rash. Occasionally used Sudocreme on dd1 , but when I took her to docs with suspected urine infection I was told the Sudocreme I'd used on her sore bits, priory to wee based symptoms, would have caused hypersensitivity and to avoid it for bums.

slimyak · 26/01/2014 07:54

The only thing I use Vaseline for is little face cheeks on a cold windy day before going out. But I live right on the north east coast and the wind can definitely bite.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 26/01/2014 07:58

Hope you're well Saggy, I remember you from Sept 13.

DS2 rashes quite easily, so I use a bit of bepanthen most changes.

MummyBeerest, I had my older two in cloth, so used them for a total of four years and used Sudocrem most days! Am surprised to read you're not meant to use it! edges sudocrem away from DS2's lovely new wraps
