Haha myname, I was told by the delivery service that the zinc repels the moisture. I've still used Desitin on occasion for long trips

You heard nothing. ..

Bepanthen for everyday. Sudocrem for mild nappy rash. Metanium for persistent and more severe nappy rash.

NorthEasterlyGale · 26/01/2014 18:04

Bepanthen every change here, with metanium yellow for bad rash.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 26/01/2014 19:26

TBH I think Sudocreme is wonderful stuff, you'd be amazed what it can be used for! I think I'll stick to what I always did and use that.

I used the Neal's Yard one with DD. Not cheap but it lasts if you're sparing and it was very effective.

I've been wondering the same thing...... I'm 32 weeks with my first and I remember when I was little family members used cotton wool and warm water on babies bum for the first few weeks instead of wipes. Do people still do this nowadays? on the packs of Huggies pure wipes is says they are like using cotton wool and water.

Sorry didn't know whether to start new thread or post here.

I use Sudocreme for all sorts! its first stop in my horsey first aid kit! Grin

We used Vaseline on dd and it was the best thing for any nappy rash. Always cleared up quickly, but took forever to clear if we used anything else.

perfectstorm · 26/01/2014 22:31

I'd read the ingredients list on the Huggies before believing that, tbh. Water and a flannel/cotton wool is cheaper and gentler, and we use Water Wipes (they're the only ones approved by the British Allergy Foundation) when out and about. Official advice is still nothing but water in the earliest weeks.

Neal's Yard uses no petrochemicals, just zinc oxide, sunflower oil, beeswax and camomile oil. If you compare that with the ingredients on the major companies' bum creams, the difference in reaction is more comprehensible, I think. Again, I'm wary of Neals Yard - they were caught on camera advising people to use their homeopathy products rather than anti-malarial drugs when travelling in Africa; malaria is one of the world's biggest killers, and they suggested homeopathy as an alternative to measles vaccination - but that cream really does work, and seems pretty hypoallergenic. The more widely sold commercial products aren't, really.

Lots of babies are fine with the seriously commercial products. Problem is, you can't tell which won't be, and the earlier you use them, the more the risk of sensitising the skin, or so the dermatologist tells us.

Well there you go! Must say I never had a single problem with it, and the same nappies are working perfectly fine for DS2, a decade on!

ReticulatingSplines · 27/01/2014 10:22

DD's a wee fatty and in the past has had sore bits under her neck and armpits. HV and doctor recommended sudocrem for those bits too :)

Tranquilitybaby · 27/01/2014 23:44

Bepanthen if needed and Metanium if there's nappy rash.

makkar · 28/11/2018 16:06

Hi All,

do you use any nappy barrier cream at every change? if yes which one? is vaseline safe/good to use?
Thanks
