Maternity pads - any particular brand?

I was just going to get the Boots own brand as they're cheap but I've not noticed many other brands around. I spotted that they come in thick and ultra-thin but am guessing thick is best for the first week or so!

Asda own brand were cheap yet effective. Good luck!

ThedementedPenguin · 25/01/2014 15:32

I used Tesco own. Was 98p for a pack of 10 I think. Worked the job.

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 25/01/2014 15:35

I second Asda. They were great, no leaks.

I presume they're all basically the same. Just make sure they are long and thick and you'll be sorted.

Good luck! Grin Can't believe it was 7 months ago that I had my DS!

Hellymummy · 25/01/2014 16:51

Asdas were brilliant, will be buying again this time xx

AlwaysDancing1234 · 25/01/2014 16:59

Asda/Tesco are reasonable price and do the job. I remember buying thin ones before birth then going out afterwards and buying the really thick ones, much more comfortable and do a better job!

Choccywoccydodah · 25/01/2014 16:59

I used wilkos own night pads, they were the EXACT same ones as their maternity pads and half the price.

milktraylady · 25/01/2014 17:00

They are all exactly the same!
I bought 1 pack from everywhere.

The thin ones are not as absorbent, but good for when you are getting out & about after a while.

Franchini · 25/01/2014 17:29

I prefer the boots thick ones a they are very soft and thick for sitting on. I have stocked up for baby no 2! They are sometimes on 3.for 2 offer.

OneMoreThenNoMore · 25/01/2014 17:34

Any brand of the thick ones, a bit of padding really helped when it came to sitting down. I think I used mothercare and boots.

Beanymonster · 25/01/2014 17:39

I loved the boots thick ones, I tried asda and they caught on my stitches, if you don't have stitches I think they would have been as good as boots! So depends!!

ChurrosConChocolate · 25/01/2014 17:40

I much preferred the ones with wings, got from Mothercare last time but would be interested if anywhere else does winged ones?

OneMoreThenNoMore · 25/01/2014 17:47

Yy Churros, I moved on to those a few weeks in, when my bits were a bit less battered. The mothercare ones are a bit expensive but very comfortable, iirc. I think boots do some winged ones too?

Cariad007 · 25/01/2014 18:11

The Boots ones don't have wings? How strange, you'd think post-childbirth would be the time you'd need the pad to stay in place far more than when you're just have a period!

I think that they do a winged pad but the thicker ones aren't winged iyswim. I could be wrong though.

I actually found that wings irritated my nethers in the early days, which was another reason for my preference for enormous 80s style pads! I could also do two pads side by side if necessary, which I couldn't do with pads with wings.

broodylicious · 25/01/2014 19:10

Thicker the better as they've far more comfy. In those early days, it's all about comfort! I was wearing two at a time, overlapping each other, the first day or so because I bled a fair bit. Oh the glamours! And ppl think having a baby is all beaut bumps, coffee and cake and a year off work Wink

Slh122 · 25/01/2014 19:15

Don't use sainsburys, I found them rubbish!
I've found Wilkinsons ones to be really comfortable and they're nice and thick.

Cariad007 · 25/01/2014 19:19

Two pads side by side has me wondering where you get pants with a gusset wide enough to do that!

AmIGoingMad · 25/01/2014 19:24

Boots or Tesco thick ones were fab both times here.

I'd also recommend getting in some witch hazel to our on pad to cool you occasionally throughout the day.

broodylicious · 25/01/2014 19:38

Mine went lengthways cariad, overlapping in the middle. Big granny pants from asda or old ones are essential for that first week. I breastfed dd and so my bleeding stopped within four or five days but I know some ladies suffered for about three weeks!!

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 25/01/2014 23:21

Broody - I had two overlapping in the middle too with high waist massive knickers from Asda.

I bled for 5 weeks then had a period straight after! Envy

Auntiebaba · 25/01/2014 23:24

Tena Lady. I think I read on here with my last one and bought a pack and whoever posted was right, nothing gets through them! Worth the extra cost. Getting ready to stack up for my next baby.

FrumiousBandersnatch · 25/01/2014 23:26

YY to mothercare with wings.

Pistachiotruffle · 25/01/2014 23:28

Boots own thick ones! The most comfortable I tried, like a little cushion and didn't rub on my stitches (still fresh in my mind, baby is 7 weeks!). I hated mothercare ones, they had a funny top layer that stuck.

NonnoMum · 25/01/2014 23:28

just buy twice as many as you were thinking you'd need...

Tis all you need to know.

WhatWillSantaBring · 25/01/2014 23:30

Mothercare with wings and aloe Vera.... But for me, swapping to sanitary pads was very necessary within 5 days, as the thing I hate about maternity pads is that you stay damp, IYSWIM. Both DCs I've developed thrush which was cured only by switching to something where the bleeding is absorbed and you stay dry.
