Does anyone else hate this phrase?! No "we" aren't. I am! Makes me cringe when I hear couples announce it like that!

OP posts:

I'd say "got pregnant". I didn't fall over and suddenly become pregnant, I was actively trying to. The implication that I have 'fallen from grace' and become pregnant is also somehow wrapped up in the other phrase.

scaevola · 25/01/2014 11:44

"we're breastfeeding" makes me think of the bats father in the Fokkers films who wore false breasts and a supplementer tube.

HoneyDragon · 25/01/2014 11:45

We just sneezed and slightly pissed ourselves in Morrisons

CrispyFB · 25/01/2014 11:49

It's exceptionally twee. I can't imagine DH ever, ever saying it - he's totally disinterested in pregnancy (I used to try but I've long since given up) unless it inconveniences him in some way! So it's just "CrispyFB is pregnant"

Then when the baby is here, it's "I'm a dad again". Thankfully he does take that part very seriously and does a very good job of being a "dad" but he is no good at being "pregnant" Grin

Fine by me!

moomin35 · 25/01/2014 13:17

haha! i thought only the other day how much I hate this expression and thought i must be strange in hating it, so glad i saw this post to see it's not just me!! :-)

MrsGiraffe12 · 25/01/2014 15:42

Totally agree OP

Makes me want to boak lol

Im putting on weight, being sick, gonna have my belly sliced open etc.

He's having a baby, IM pregnant lol x

JugglingFromHereToThere · 25/01/2014 15:55

Also wouldn't it be so much nicer for a DP to maybe put his arm round you and say proudly "DP's pregnant !" than to say "we're pregnant" To me that's really stealing your thunder
BTW A massive hail storm with thunder and lightening just passed right over our house, which may have put me in mind of that metaphor Hmm
(my face)

"But, men can feel a bit excluded"

I have just asked OH if he felt excluded while I was pregnant. He just laughed and said "don't be silly, of course not". He thinks that is a ridiculous statement.

weebigmamma · 25/01/2014 16:27

Just wanna add, it's not true that men can't ever get pregnant. Transgender men can and do get pregnant. But re: OP, I also hate the phrase 'we're pregnant' and if my husband ever said it I would openly contradict him.

Writerwannabe83 · 25/01/2014 16:43

juggling - a massive thunder and hailstorm just erupted over my house too! Maybe we're neighbours? Smile

cjbk1 · 25/01/2014 16:44

yes I hate it, cringe, cringe, cringe, if anyone actually said it to my face i'd say "oh so you're both growing a person in your bodies are you?" Confused

JugglingFromHereToThere · 25/01/2014 16:49

< waves to Writer >

Yes, we could be Smile - though it might have traveled a bit in 45 mins, it seemed to be moving at a fair old speed ?
Without giving out my postcode we're vaguely East Midlands. How about you?

LastOneDancing · 25/01/2014 19:09

Ooh I had the massive hail too - Birmingham though.

Yy Scottish Mummy! I'm going to give a sling a go too - 'We' will be baby wearing! Grin
