Does anyone else hate this phrase?! No "we" aren't. I am! Makes me cringe when I hear couples announce it like that!

I am truly a little bit sick in my mouth when I hear 'we're pregnant'. Pregnancy is a biological state!! I have used 'we're having a baby' but we're pregnant is so horrifically twee.

DinoSnores · 25/01/2014 09:54

I'll raise you 'we fell with little Jimmy' and give you 'I caught first time we tried'. You caught what?!

Bunbaker · 25/01/2014 09:55

"Bit judgey to be honest."

Yes it is Grin
I shall continue to be judgy

I don't get why some partners feel left out of the whole pregnancy thing. OH certainly didn't. He was very pragmatic about it realising that it is only a woman who can be pregnant. He was very hands on as a father once DD was born (once he realised that she wouldn't break if he picked her up).

BrianTheMole · 25/01/2014 09:57

It sounds awful. A woman in my nct used to say that. I used to point out that only one of them was pregnant, and they would stare at me blankly.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 25/01/2014 09:57

If it's a lesbian couple, then it's biologically possible.

Otherwise it's horridly patronising. A man isn't ever pregnant and it's creepy to muscle in.

We're going to be parent - absolutely fine
We're having a baby - OK, she's 'having' it, but you both get it.
We're pregnant - just awful.

Seff · 25/01/2014 09:58

Other than the "sympathy" weight he's gained, nope, there's just me that's pregnant!

BrianTheMole · 25/01/2014 09:58

Otherwise it's horridly patronising. A man isn't ever pregnant and it's creepy to muscle in.

That is exactly it. Creepy. I couldn't find the words to sum it up.

scottishmummy · 25/01/2014 10:01

No we are not pregnant
Woman is pregnant
Couple are having baby

sweetiepie1979 · 25/01/2014 10:02

I hate it hate it it! My husband said it once when we had people round for dinner showdown pursued. It is an awful phrase.

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 25/01/2014 10:04

We're having a baby, we're going to be parents.

I'm knocked up.

Shellywelly1973 · 25/01/2014 10:07

Possibly the most ridiculous thing to come out of any man's mouth.

How about we give birth? Come here & let me share the joy of giving birth! Nah? didn't think so!

ToriaPumpkin · 25/01/2014 10:07

My DH pulled a cracking face when he called his Godmother to tell her I'm pregnant with DC2 and she responded with "You're pregnant?!"

"Well, no. Toria is..."

Writerwannabe83 · 25/01/2014 10:14

I admit I have been guilty of using this phrase in the past Sad

I patiently wait for someone to report me to MNHQ and have me banished from the site Grin

SweetPea86 · 25/01/2014 10:19

This made me giggle I to hate that phrase, yet my hubby jokes saying were in this together. Hmmmmmmmm as much as a love him and love how helpful he's been whilst I've been pregnanat,

We are in this together makes my blood boil whilst I'm chucking my guts up. I get quite jealous while he's snoring his head of a 3am while I'm being kicked in the bladder with constant trips to the bathroom

I did suggest waking him up every time I go to the loo at night! Funny he's stopped saying that now ;p

circlebeginning · 25/01/2014 10:20

I used to hate it and don't say it myself. But, men can feel a bit excluded and helpless particularly when things get rough during pregnancy so I think it usually comes from a sweet place.

scottishmummy · 25/01/2014 10:40

I think we are pregnant is so wanky. For baby wearers and right on types

JugglingFromHereToThere · 25/01/2014 10:47

"Bit judgey to be honest"

Well, aren't you being a bit judgey of our judginess ? - we're enjoying ourselves here laughing at the men who think they're pregnant

HoneyDragon · 25/01/2014 10:48

Live and live and let forks go in foreheads

notso · 25/01/2014 11:03

Urgh yes hate it.
We went to see DH's friend and his new baby. After a while the baby started fussing and his wife excused herself and went upstairs with him. DH's friend said
"hope you don't mind DW is a bit self conscious because we're breast feeding"
DH and I had to stifle the snorts.

qazxc · 25/01/2014 11:04

My DP announced to his family saying "we're pregnant" and I did do a slight inside cringe. I'm with the "qazxc is pregnant / we're having a baby" brigade.

tilliebob · 25/01/2014 11:08

I've never heard anyone use that phrase IRL, thankfully. My DH was delighted to tell everyone I was pg each time and was very supportive but that's as far as it went. He had in urge to try and climb into my body and share the kicks, indigestion, heartburn and piles with me -the selfish twat

tilliebob · 25/01/2014 11:08

*no urge. Need to go back to the laptop instead of this iPad!

MrsCosmopilite · 25/01/2014 11:15

Hate it. Along with 'preggers' and 'fell pregnant'. Women get pregnant, couples can claim to be having a baby together.

I fully accept that I am a miserable old git.

scottishmummy · 25/01/2014 11:27

We've got piles
We have swollen ankles
We have sore breasts

RaRa1988 · 25/01/2014 11:36

I HATE it Angry - but not as bad as Notso's example of 'we're breastfeeding' - I'm proud of your self-control; I'd have been rolling on the floor!

Out of interest, what do you all say instead of 'fell pregnant'? Don't hate me - I don't like that either and I certainly didn't fall with mine, but do you just say 'got pregnant' or is there another way?
