Well, I'm about six weeks pregnant. So far today I have visited the loos about five times to retch, have actually thrown up about twice - breakfast and then mid-morning snack. So far lunch is staying down - lucky! Have zero concentration, in part because DS woke up at 5.30am. Luckily I have nothing urgent on and my boss is really busy so hopefully hasn't noticed. Even looking at Mumsnet makes me feel sick, must be all those words scrolling by. Just had to moan - can't believe I've got at least another month of this to go if not more....

FlorenceUK - that sounds grim, sorry to hear you are having such a bad time of it. How many weeks are you?

M2T · 19/03/2004 14:34

FlorenceUK - So sorry you're having such a tough time. SOunds terrible. I think the 1st 12 wks are theeee worst in pregnancy! No matter how uncomfortable the last few weeks are, at least you know the end is near and you can feel your baby wriggling around. In the beginning you have the tiredness, sickness, and endless peeing.... without all the nice bits of pregnancy to distract you!

Hang in there, how many weeks are you now? 8??

The sickness usually starts to ease at about 10/11 wks, so although it might not stop entirely until 13wks, at least you should feel a bit better.

Am going for an early scan to work out exactly how many weeks I am. I reckon I'm around 8 weeks, so one month to go if I'm lucky, but as I'm been so much sicker this time compared to the last time, it may well last longer this time (cross fingers this is not true, I will have lost my job by then if so).

I have been really suffering too - constant nausea, retching and sickness together with terrible heartburn. I am now 11 w + 2 and it seems to be getting a little better. Some days are worse than others and being tired definitely makes it worse. For about 4 weeks all I wanted to do was to sleep - it was the only time I didn't feel sick. I hope you feel better soon - let's hope we all bloom from week 12!

Thanks M2T for the reassurance - will raise my glass of cool lemonade (my only remedy) to us all feeling better soon

This sickness is driving me crazy and often have crying fits after vomiting. This is my first and last baby! Does the sickness make anyone else feel emotional Just wish something would help. I haven't been to work in a month I don't think I could teach feeling like this my 5yr olds would think I'm mad. Feel as if i'll never work again but it's great knowing that there are other people out there suffering the same. Thanks everyone.

Just wanted to say I'm gutted you're all having such a grotty time, but hang in there. It will get better. Soonish. Hopefully.

Scruff, I know how you feel - it's so debilitating and depressing to be throwing up all the time. How many weeks are you? Don't know if it will depress you or cheer you up if I tell you I am 17 weeks and have just stopped puking (I think). Reckon it definitely peaks at 9-10 weeks. Hope you feel better soon - try ice lollies, they seem to calm poor ravaged throat and tummy. Take care, it WILL end (and apparently sickness in early preg ensures a big strong placenta grows, so just think of that!)

scruff · 23/03/2004 13:38

I am 10 weeks and feel a little bit better today. Seem to keep talking to people who were sick for full 9 mths or not sick at all. Not at work thank God couldn't cope. Dinny do you start to feel even slightly better after 10wks? Getting desperate. Have booking in appoint tomorrow and taking dh with me as afraid i will be sick. Is it normal for this sickness to get you down? Even finding washing hair and having a shower very hard work!

fio2 · 23/03/2004 13:43

i had horrendous morning sickness with my first, the only thing that helped me was going to sleep for a while - which is not an option when you have a little one. My sickness lasted til 5 months and then I ate like a horse for the latter part, so it does get better

dinny · 26/03/2004 13:11

Scruff, you have my sympathies, you really do. Mine seemed to be most intense between about 9-11 weeks. Looking back, it did start calming down after about 12-13 wks. You may be coming out of the worst bit now. Are you keeping anything at all down? Dehydration can make you a lot worse. Did you tell your midwife at booking how awful you are feeling? It does make you so depressed, emotional and lethargic - all horrible but normal (you're like that in first trimester even if not sick, I reckon). Honestly, it does get better - this will soon be a distant memory. Take care, Dinny.
