I'm 35+6 and have been totally unable to sleep more than a few hours a night for wks now. Last night was 3 hours, tonight has only been 1.5 hrs so far. I'm so tired and drained. Also have a 2.1 very active dd so no rest in the day. Have in idea where energy to look after newborn will come from.

Anyone else suffering the same?

I'm wide awake Grin

I'm sitting in the kitchen, just sorted out all the wet washing and now I'm having a huge mug of hot chocolate Smile

Misty9 · 09/01/2014 02:00

Chocolate has just started to trigger my heartburn this week....grr. Given up on sleep for now and downstairs on the sofa. I was fine until my two year old wandered in and woke me up. Resettled him and now need someone to do the same for me! Work tomorrow and have so much to finish off. At least I'll be able to snooze in my office Grin

Writerwannabe83 · 09/01/2014 02:08

I go through phases of this insomnia it drives me mad! For the last few days I've actually managed to fall asleep quite quickly and sleep through until morning, but things started to deteriorate last night and now it appears it's back in full force Hmm

I kind of feel drowsy but I just know that when I climb back in bed I will be wide awake again. My problem is that I can't stop thinking about the pregnant, birth and life with a baby - my mind is completely working overtime!!! I can't shut off!

Sorry to hear you have work tomorrow, that must make it even worse!!! There's nothing worse than knowing you have to get up! On the occasion I was wide awake at gone 03.00am and knew I had to be up again at 07.00am to go to a hospital appointment and it just tipped me over the edge. I was so exhausted and stressed that I had a break down, I couldn't stop crying. When I saw the midwife at my appointment she made the huge mistake of asking how things were going and I just exploded with tears again Smile She was concerned I had ante- natal depression and it took some reassuring to convince her that I wasn't depressed, just exhausted Smile

Hope you're asleep by now... I'm yawning so might attempt it again. To be honest, the thought of work on little sleep is easier than the thought of toddler childcare on little sleep!

Have you tried relaxation to get to sleep? Progressive muscle can be good - just tense and release individual parts of your body (starting at your toes) and work your way up. Also, if your mind is working overtime, maybe writing things down might help? I just can't get comfy in bed :( much prefer lying on my right side but that brings on reflux/heartburn, and it's getting harder to lie on my back. So I toss and turn.

leelteloo · 09/01/2014 03:22

Awake here Hmm. It's not insomnia; I could sleep if I didn't have terrible stitch like pain in my bump. It's so uncomfortable. 3rd baby & 2 sections, so I guess it might be my scar stretching inside. I also have a very very heavy 16 month old and lifting him is becoming so difficult. Only 4 more nights to go though and then I will be awake all night for the next year probably: YAWN!

Volleyfeet · 09/01/2014 05:32

Yep 32 weeks and awake here too. Always around 04.30! Got another viral cold type thing at the moment so feeling sorry for myself. Have 12 hour shift today so could do with the sleep really.

Catsize · 09/01/2014 05:38

Another one here...

Writerwannabe83 · 09/01/2014 07:16

I got to sleep at about 04.00am in the end. Awake again 2.5 hours later, oh the joy.....

Misty9 · 09/01/2014 18:39

I got back to sleep at 3.30 then up at 7. Toddler having screaming meltdown for bedtime so god knows what tonight will be like.

Apparentlychilled · 10/01/2014 04:17

Anyone up? 37+1 and Braxton Hicks have woken me up.

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/01/2014 04:24

I'm up (awake since 2.30 and currently in the bath). 30 weeks and fed up of not sleeping through

Apparentlychilled · 10/01/2014 04:26

Mmm, bath sounds nice. Am debating warm milk and the last of the mince pies. Was awake 1.30-3 then dozed till about 4.

Apparentlychilled · 10/01/2014 04:27

Btw I think my insomnia was worst around 30-35 weeks, so it may get better for you.

leelteloo · 10/01/2014 04:31

Woke at 2.30: had hot milk & banana; paracetamol for bump pain and 2 bloody hours later still wide awake! I don't even feel tired; more wired!!

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/01/2014 04:41

I think some of my insomnia tonight is caused by aches and pains (legs/back/feet) from packing up our house today. Hence why I thought a bath may help. However the infuriating pregnancy piece is the inability to get back to sleep, even when shattered... It drives me mad. As it soon will be 5 I am debating whether it is worth going back to bed at all
V jealous of the mince pie Grin

volvocowgirl · 10/01/2014 05:45

Another one here with this, been awake since 3.30. Hmm

brightstar2014 · 10/01/2014 06:49

Hi only just joined this so not too sure what I'm doing. Been up with Braxton hicks and strong kicks in ribs so now nursing hot milk and tired head. Anybody else get slightly miffed when partner still snoring away upstairs ?

Writerwannabe83 · 10/01/2014 08:20

brightstar - I hate having to listen to my DH snore and make sleepy noises. One hand I'm jealous but on the other I'm just annoyed that he isn't more considerate Grin He's a very wriggly sleeper too, moving around, kicking his feet, snuffling, snoring, talking in his sleep etc, it just drives me mad. I have spent the last 3 nights in the spare room as it's the only way I can drop off - silence and a still bed Smile

I think I nodded off about 03.00am this morning then had to get up at 07.00am to await the delivery of our nursery furniture which has just arrived. I'm now trying to decide whether to go back to bed and try and get some more sleep, or just suck up the tiredness and try and get back into some kind of routine.....

wejammin · 10/01/2014 08:24

May I join you? Wish I wasn't! I'm only 10 weeks, not slept well since 4 weeks. Am usually sandwiched between snoring DH and wrigglebum DS with 2 cats squished in somewhere, all of them asleep but me. With DS's pregnancy I napped all weekend, no such luxuries this time!

Mummytobe2014 · 10/01/2014 14:29

I managed a decent sleep last night, the dp was back on nights so the next three nights will be undisturbed....by him anyway, Phew! Although heartburn is starting to be a real issue at night! I think i am less moody today because i slept better!

Misty9 · 11/01/2014 16:53

Another crap night last night. More pillows, but tossing and turning from 2am. At least had a birthday lie in...until 8.30am. Ds on the other hand is sleeping in his own bed again, almost all night. So can't blame him!

fmam · 31/01/2014 21:27

Sympathies to everyone suffering with insomnia - I am too

Here's what's helped me -

"guided sleep talkdown meditation for insomnia" - google this, there are some free videos available on youtube. They help you to relax and the talkdown frees your mind of all those thoughts racing through it. There are also some videos with nature sounds or white noise - I find these help too. It's just something to listen to other than your own thoughts. the ability to tune out is a major part of falling asleep

Best of luck everybody

Snowlet · 01/02/2014 07:24

21 weeks here, and yes! Wondering if anyone else has become a lighter sleeper in general? The other week DP and I had a silly argument (seems to happen more often in my hormone fuelled state!) and he fell asleep on the sofa. Was the best night's sleep I'd had in ages. He's a thrasher so I'm wondering if it's harder to sleep through things that didn't bother me before pregnancy. Unless you're worried about hurting your own DP's feelings, might be worth a try on a bed of your own? Just every so often to catch up? That's my only solution so far though....

Mumtobe1992 · 26/10/2014 06:15
